  1. I am thinking of rebuilding my VVC to 1.9 spec over the next few months as time and funds allow. I am going to have an Evo2 block anyway so the only cost difference is to buy the 82mm pistons. I already have a set of new Omega 80mm pistons so I could sell them to get a little of the money back but is it worth it? Has anyone had their engine converted to 1.9 with no other changes and what gains have been obtained? I have heard of big figures but cant find any back to back tests. Any idea what a set of new Omega's with the correct 2nd ring and pins are worth? Cheers, Simon
  2. There is a manifold available for these to go onto a K if they are the square flange 4 mounting hole type. Never used these ones but I had some of the short 30mm deep ones on my last K powered car and they were ok. They are easier to setup than Exige style ones as you can balance them individually. I have a spare manifold if you want to try. It has a 45 inlet and is tapered down to a standard VVC sized inlet port so can be easily matched. The holes to bolt the bodies to need helicoiling and needs some plugs in the underside to fill the idle circuit but its basically ok. You can then use your standard Rover injectors and fuel rail. Send me a mail if you want to talk. If you want to get new the Southern Carbs sell them, or did. Cheers, Simon
  3. Sgt Peter, You have a mail regarding the indicator pods. Cheers, Simon

  8. I have tried to run a 2ZZ on a Celica ECU without the rest of the car on an engine dyno at work. We couldnt manage it, without transplanting a lot of other parts from the car in there and so gave up. The Apexi Power FC ECU is used in the USA by a lot of people with Celica's so it is available in English to as far as I know. It should be plug compatible with the Toyota wiring loom. If you decide to try the Elise ECU route let me know and I may be able to help with a few things. Also, if you get a moment could you take some pics of the engine mountings and where they attach to the block and also how the bellhousing looks to have been adapted and mail them to me. I am going to do a RWD install of a 2ZZ myself and it would be usefull to see how Caterham did it. Cheers, Simon
  9. Dave, I may have something you can use. I will mail you offline. Simon
  10. I have a standard Stack proximity speed sensor (ST670) I dont need. Is that what you need? Its new and never been used. It seems to only have 2 pins in the plug so I dont know if its the one you require. Mail me if you could make use of it. Simon
  11. Richard, I have one that is now surplus to requirement. It has valves fitted and has tappets with it. I also have some Piper 270 cams for it, no adaptor plates though. Mail me if you are interested. Simon
  12. Pierre, The oil flow from the oil pump goes to the outside of the oil filter and flows back into the engine through the centre of the filter. Simon
  13. At idle I would expect to see about 300-350 mBar MAP, on standard cams/timing that is. I expect you will be seeing 1100 plus, i.e. more than WOT fuelling. That would soon choke the engine and O2 sensor up. Unfortunatly I fly to the USA on business later on tonight, I think I have a spare tMAP at home somewhere which I can let you have for a few beer tokens, but I wont be here until the beginning of August. If you can wait that long or cant get one mail me around the 3rd and I'll see what I can do to help. Simon Edited by - Simon Hayward on 21 Jul 2003 20:54:51
  14. Have you got a standard plastic plenum on your engine? If you have, the air temp and the MAP sensor are combined, maybe the MAP part of it is broken?? If this is the case it would go some way to explain why you are over fuelling so much. When the sensor is unplugged along with the coolant one the default limp home values will be good enough to run it. If you have throttles and are running alpha-n then it will just be using the air temp part of it, assuming you have some sort of air temp correction, so it doesnt matter.
  15. Has anyone upgraded to a 4-2-1 exhaust and have the standard Caterham manifold and downpipe cluttering up the garage. If you have and would be interested in selling it, I dont need the cat, for a sensible price, can you mail me with details and how much you would be after for it. Ta, Simon
  16. I just got the 8.4mm from the JL catalogue. Looks like they are wrong then!
  17. Ok, just asking 'cos I've got a couple of spare new Stack pressure and temp sensors that I dont need. Was just checking in case I could save you giving DT too much of your hard earned but you are sorted already.
  18. Yep, 1/8"X27 NPTF tap from same place. Part number TNP-30125A. Costs £12.93+vat. Not sure what the 'F' relates to, different grade threads I think. The other one may still do for you. What senders are you getting from DT?
  19. An 1/8"x27 NPT tap, part number TNP-20125K, is about £11+vat from JL Industrial, 0800 663355. Needs an 8.4mm hole drilled. Edited by - Simon Hayward on 1 May 2003 12:18:59
  20. The cooling system on the K still runs the normal way round. The way it starts to open is a bit different to the older ways but its a good system for fast engine warm up in grocery getters. Doesnt work so well in mid/rear engined cars such as the Elise and can cause terrible temperature cycling if the pressure drops in the heater and by-pass are wrong. I take it you have removed and flushed out all of the old coolant before you plan to put in the new Rover organic stuff otherwise the mess you will find in there wont be nice!Unless it was built with the organic stuff in the first place, if so I'll shut up!! Simon
  21. Thats a normal characteristic for a 4 cylinder engine. Its a function of the short exhaust primaries. If you were to fit a longer 4-2-1 manifold it would be smoothed out a lot, it may not go completely. I've run a lot of K's on dynos and you always get it with the standard manfolds.
  22. The threads in the apollo itself are 1/2" BSP. I would presume the fittings would be 1/2" BSP male/male.
  23. The S2 Elise does not use a Rover ECU so it does not any matching immobilisers or anything like that. If you get hold of a Caterham VVC engine harness, which I think has a mod to fit the ECD3 style ecu, then the Lotus ecu may not work. Of course if you get a Rover MEMS3 ecu then it will all be ok but you will need the matched stuff again. Simon
  24. They are only £2.50 each new from KN. If you have Minators obviously! Try 01952 614402.
