  1. About 4-5 years ago I worked out the cost of fitting an S2000 Vtec and 6 speed box into my car, Initially the used unit price looked good, however when I viewed the engine/box it was immediately apparent that it wouldn't fit without a lot of work. the engine is very tall and the gearbox/bellhousing is very 'Fat', so I never bothered, going into the details Eventually I chose a Zetec. Now 5 years later the Duratex is the obvious choice the power is easily up to a S2000 Vtec - though the parts to make it fit a 7 ain't cheap 😳 So IMO fit a D/tec, for silly power, or if like me you want VFM fit a Zetec
  2. I wouldn't worry whether it's Focus or Mondeo, if the price is right - Buy it
  3. 80mm has survived on my car, for years of Welsh road Blatting - though I take care when driving over the growing number of Sleeping Piggys
  4. Zetec removable from an S4 leaving the gearbox in situ 😬
  5. Does anyone know whether the Hydraulic brake light switch Fitted to my 1970 Lotus7 is the same as that fitted to a mini or an, mg midget? Or anyone know the original donor car for this part?? Thanks Mal
  6. Dump as much weight as poss. *thumbup* No spare wheel - no toolkit - As little petrol in tank as poss no passenger *eek*
  7. John Was the caterham BB AP kit easy to fit, did your UNF brake pipes fit straight on or did you have to change them?? Did you swop the master Cylinder?. Did you change the rear drums also? Thanks Mal
  8. NCM Are the larger discs thicker 1/2" instead of the 9" discs which are 3/8". If so they are probably the same as the MK2 escort M16 discs & calipers.
  9. Ncm Will the larger triumph 9.7" discs fit my existing Ford PCD hub?? Rob What's in the Alcon kit??
  10. Rob I use to wrap the S/S primaries on my Dut, but within a short period the primaries had rusted through I believe the wrapping absorbs moisture when cold and on start up this gives steam which rusts the pipes at an amazing rate I mentioned this to DJ who said he'd never had any probs?? Maybe its down to the grade of S/S used
  11. Martin Possibly the disc/calipers are the same?? Though the wheel PCD is definitely Ford at 108mm - the Triumph PCD is 100mm I've always fitted MK1 escort pads [Mintex MGB 533] in my calipers. >> EVERYONE Can anyone confirm what Martin has posted
  12. Any one upgraded their S4's front brakes and if so what parts did you use and where did you get them from?? I was told by a mate who rallies Mk1 & 2 escorts that the larger MK2 discs and calipers are a straight swop with the S4's Mk1's can anyone confirm this?
  13. Mav That's not much lighter, if any than mine, What I realy like about the S4 is the 'Boot' it's huge compared to S3 and SV, Bon still manages to fill it up with stuff though The wasp Just follow the little booklet enclosed with the pads, yours too will only last 5000 miles maybe 😬 😬
  14. Ivaan Interesting thought - I bought my pads from Burtons in London, a reputable supplier?? KGN No Mav Surprising how heavy your SV is though like my car it's in full road trim I forgot to mention earlier my car had a Gallon of fuel in the spare can when weighed.
  15. Randy Bugger I followed the Mintex advice leaflet for bedding in, think I did a reasonable job because feel is excellent. KGH You implied the 'ballast' thing - well known in Taffia speak shall we say I'd like to know what most people's S3's weigh, definitely More than the owners think methinks 😬 Does anyone know whether the Mk1 and Mk2 escort brakes are interchangeable? The S4's are based on Mk1 - the Mk2's escorts are larger diameter, thicker discs, and larger pads/calipers, this might be a simple parts swop - Anyone know???
  16. KGH You can explain the Ballast thing to Bon when you see her My S4 is 596Kg's in road trim, with a 1/2 tank gas. sparewheel, jack, & big toolkit etc. Not much more than most S3's methinks? Mav What pads are you using 🤔 Perhaps I ought to fit the big brakes, maybe next winter's job, is there much involved 🤔
  17. KGH I've just given Bon[the ballast] your number *mad* You'll be safe if you stay in 2lose 😬 Seriously though how long do pads normally last - DJ/Ash/Anyone how long do yours last?
  18. DJ ~3.5mm remaining Not 100% about the mintex but a new standard set are 3/8" [9mm] when new Grubbster Have you ever done a taffia Blat?, I think maybe that explains it, although I've never succeeded in getting the Mintex Pads to fade, I'm sure I've come very close to it on many occasions
  19. KGH No sticky calipers - I took the pads out 2 Day to check, and all 4 pistons are free, infact the calipers were new ~ 9000 miles ago ☹️
  20. So how many miles is the norm?? Only normal 7 road useage - no Track days. Several Welsh Area Blats though 😬 😬 😬 Are there any other Pad options in this size [Mintex 1144 - MGB533] 🤔 🤔
  21. Checked my year old set of Mintex 1144 pads this morn they are almost worn out, ☹️ ☹️ I was expecting to get more than 5000 road miles out of a set, or is that about the norm 🤔 Standard pads last at least twice this long - though they have a tendancy to fade badly when Blatting 😳 😳 😬 What mileage do you lot get from a set
  22. Mark Perhaps we could buy a set of 4 between us and split the costs? Blatmail me if you're interested Mal
  23. Good Luck Mark I've been looking for one for Month's, I too have a set of four but no spare ☹️ ☹️ You can now buy new 'Remanufactred' D1 centre caps, saw them for sale at stoneleigh show earlier this month
