  1. I guess it all depends if you are planning to go further than the 140BHP odd that the SS upgrade will give you. From what I have been lead to believe the SS package has to be junked if you want to go further. rob PS I have a new 1.6 superlight and I love it

    Headlamps

Kevin - James Whiting sells smaller headlamps in black satin 95 quid a pair here rob
  3. Julian - i have just the tunnel cover with no carpets and it looks fine, however I do have the black painted / anodised interior think it will look fine rob
  4. There are some graphs of my old 16K SShere I think on this day I was suffering with a tired engine and also ran it possibly with very low try pressure by mistake which maybe why only 130 was had, it got 142 a few years earlier... and also on this page is a download (zip) of all the cars done that day if you are interested rob
  5. if these are the same as the cycle repeaters I have a set you can have these are brand new off a kit delivered in May of this year and never fitted make me an offer rob
  6. They all do that sir, well on the latest version of the caterham K series engines called EU3, if it has a black plastic cam cover then you have one. Caterham have been working ona fix for some time, call them and ask to be put on the waitinglist for when they get it fixed. It is something to do with the fact that the ECU is sending the rev counter feed and somewhere along the line there is a distortion which means that the rev counter is not reading all the pulses. I have fixed mine when a electronics friend helped me fit an aftermarket shift light system "we put a resistor was 1K, 1/4 Watt, and it went between the +v (red of the ecu light system) and the revcounter_out (from the ECU) which was green- The problem was that both your rev counter and the shift light had pull-down resistors on their inputs, and the output stage of the ECU was open-collector, with what appeared to be a 4K7 or so pull-up. This pullup was being overwhelmed by the pulldowns on the counter & shift light, and no-one ever saw a 'proper' pulse. With the extra pull-up, the ECU 'won', and was able to put out a good pulse train that both the counter and shift light were happy with. It's not clear why the ECU was so gutless - although I guess they were never expecting to have to drive anything other than the standard Rover rev-counter (which may have had a pull-up internally, I guess). ANyway, the extra pullup is unlikely to ever cause a problem - the current is still pretty tiny. Rob Edited by - robmar on 5 Nov 2001 15:23:19
  7. Nigel - I think I meant wind deflector, I have not been in a car with the little semi circular pieces of glass. I think they do look good. Any one know if they can come with the a 'bvlack pack' finish rob
  8. Hi Julian - glad you found the site - if you look int he archives theres is a lot on the topic of aeroscreens as for just sunglassess and the aeroscreen, I have done this with a set of oakleysand it was OK, a lot of people are fine with this setup. Personally I felt very exposed so 99 times out of 100 I put the helmet one. rob
  9. Richard - I went from a car with a 5 speed SC/CR box to a car with a 6 speed the difference is huge, even though I loved the SC/CR the 6 speeder makes the entire car come alive. Admitedly there where other changes between the car (brakes, steering, wheels, tyres , light flywheel etc) but this is the 1 main area that has made the car for me. I do/did trackdays so maybe I am biased. I do use more petrol and it is running at higher revs but it is worth it You could get a decent engine upgrade for the money especially if you are doing it yourself however i would go for the box. Maybe you should try a car with a 6 speed box first rob

    Tyres

Miss Mav should that have read "I highly recommend these tyres... are removed from my house due to them taking up too much space" :-) rob
  11. Following some email conversations I had with Karl at emerald he said the following (hope he doesn't mind me repeating this in public) "The biggest gain on the first car was the change of exhaust, he fitted the SLR (?) 4-2-1 exhaust and we then changed the cams, fitted DTH throttle bodies and an ECU. We got the power to 166bhp with a bog stock engine. The second engine had the long 4-1 manifold with the collector outside the car. This engine was *really* strong as standard giving 148 bhp (the previous one gave around 136). The same work was done to the 2nd engine (DTH bodies, same cams and ECU), we thought we would easily beat 166 bhp but ended up with 159 bhp! We're having the 2nd car back for some cam timing swings soon but it looks like the 4-2-1 exhaust works better once the other modifications are done. " I think these both started life as 1.6SS rob
  12. Andy - with the help of a sparky friend I fitted an OMex shift light system last weekend if your car si an EU3 then this may be of help from what i can remember we connected it to the ECU to rev counter for the feed which was the black and white wire, and for some power wired that into the dark green wire . Both of these are in the block that plugs into the back of the rev counter. We also had to fit a pull up resistor imbetween the 2 and it works now. Also the rev counter works as well and does not go back once you hit 4,500 rpm anymore One bit of adevice, there was some talk (put out by me on the advice of OMEX) that you need to set the shift light system up as a 2 cyl system and not a 4 cyl system due to the nature of the wasted spark in the Eu3. However this is not the case and we found out the ECU actually gives out a signal for a 4 cyl engine to the rev counter. hope this helps if you are near me am happy to show you what we did (wokingham , berkshire) rob
  13. OK Luke if you can send me email photo's I could be up for this emailaddress in my profile rob :-)
  14. Would bery interested if Jimmy aint rob
  15. David - here is a snippet from a a certain Mr Lyons on the 7's list where there has been a lot of talk on this subject "i am sorry but i am shouting here deliberatly at the risk of being barred i have posted time and time again on this list month after month and some of you dont listen and thus pay the penalty. in a k series engine whatever its fitted to unless you want to suffer serious damage as discussed in the last day or so you need to use and only use [ with the exception which proves the rule of the comma product see peters post] unipart product gec3020 superplus4 it is available from any major rover/unipart dealer in 20ltr containers and should be used neat ie no water it is a monopropylene glycol use of any other coolant/antifreeze is a major no no this has been well documented onlist for the past 4yrs. i rest my case. ps it is permissable to mix 1/2 bottle of redline watter wetter per fill with this which will aid heat transfer from the engine metal to the water and conversley from the water to the radiator surface. again sorry for shouting but the lesson is not being learnt." rob
  16. Luke - is this just the manifold or doe sit include the box? also is there a cat (meow) if so am very interested if it is the competition version witht he collector outside the car rob Edited by - robmar on 17 Oct 2001 09:19:01

OK Andy - just let me know if/wehn you decide to do this, If I have not changed plans and or not already bought one then let me know rob
  18. Yep - buit was just wondering if the drain plate int he dry sump would be the same dimensions, TBH I wouldn't have thougth so I may get a spare one from caterham and get a local machine shop to but in a drain hole thanks anyway rob

    Exhausting!

Andy - what are you looking for in terms of your SLR exhaust system? I too am interested in Hoops deal but if I can get yours on the cheap then that could be of interest to me. Would be willing to send a deposit to reserve! thoughts rob
  20. hmmm - looks a lot different to mine - may give him a call tomorrow as I have been stuck on our internal support line for 148 mins trying to sort out what i thought was a simple problem with intellimirror :-( rob
  21. Understandable do you know how much James sels them for, not willing for the 60 minitue phone call ;-) rob
  22. Chaos - are you interested in selling the drain plate separately... if so i it theone with the 'o' ring? rob
  23. just to be clear mine is just the screen no other bits rob
  24. Steve - I have 4 plastic ones that fit the minatour as fitted to the new caterhams you can have for a donation to ntl rob
