  1. I have a 5 speed Vx LA of '98 vintage and with a little wiggling pulled the inner cable out of the outer sleeve and with a little bit of wiggling put the new one in. He presto a working speedo. Is this what you mean or are you after soemthing more complex; I don't do complex. Rick
  2. A021 on 185s Daughter did a track day at Bedford and after nearly 90 minutes of tuition took me round as a passenger in the pouring rain, and I mean pouring. She scared me sick with late braking and the speed she came out of corners in such terrible conditions. We did not spin once. She did spin with instructor but self induced by too much throttle and just the wrong time. Should add that son did track day in sun and Brands and after tuition took me out....etc etc. So (to me) seem a pretty good alround tyre. Rick
  3. parked-up in pub saw you come past Rick
  4. saw you travelling south B1383 towards B'Strotford Rick
  5. You were parked-up for pertrol in the pi55ing rain. Hope your journey was OK; it was bad enough in tintop. Rick
  6. 4 of you spottd in a line (almost); gosling - stanborough lakes road. I flashed lights *idea* and waved *wavey*from blue(ish) peugeot. Going anywhere nice? Rick
  7. Word of warning; sticky cable can lead to jammed throttle and guess when you find out that you have a jammed throttle; when you don't want throttle. Been there, done that, got the brown pants.......round bend full throttle and full scream (I was the one screaming). Thank god the 7 goes round corners - well; better than me anyway. Rick

    speedo cable

fair comment but I thought (wrongly?) that I would need to get to the 'orribly fiddly bit at the gearbox; which don't look easy. Not much room to wield a spanner. Rick

    speedo cable

Speedo not working but appears to be because the 'sqaure' end of the cable (that fits into the speedo) got mullered. Not 100% certain why but think that problem is solved. The, not-so-square, end is not too bad and i reckon a bit of filing will get it back into shape. Its a complete b4st4rd trying to work on the cable in situ. I'm terrified of pulling too much cable out of the sleeve in case something at the other end becomes dislodged or moves out of place and I end up renewing the whole bl00dy thing. Question - how far out can I pull the cable? TA Rick
  12. Hi Rich - what do you mean still pedalling....Been going great. The only unexpected excitement (other than a couple of early spins) was having the throttle cable jam open . And the only time you realise its jammed is when you want to break; like for a bend. The car is still great fun and I still get a buzz thinking I've got it. Saw you built one; still got it? Next year I'll get a run down to your meet. Rick
  13. deep joy.....sucsessful screwing, with knob only once launching itself in an uncontrolled manner. Thanks for info. No more playing with knob under dashboard, I shall leave well alone; for show only. Although I'm of the age where 'for show only' is becoming a by word. Rick
  14. HOPE......with a following wind I'll be screwing later tonight, unless of course me knobs broken off. My god, I'm too old to be screwing (on unscrewing) in a car. Thanks for the help.
  15. Thanks for the info; I'll see if I can screw it (up) back on. Not a button but a knob I presume; or am I the knob? Cheers guys Rick
  16. I made the mistake of attempting to use the under-the-dash-handbrake. On releasing my thumb from the button, the button launched itself out of the handle and, after ricocheting around the 'cabin', settled in the footwell. Not lost so a result there. What's bust? Rick
  17. Could well of been laser blue. Consider yourself spotted.
  18. I was in Tin-Top and gave a couple of flashes; you waved. Rick
  19. gave a couple of flashes as you headed towards the roundabout Bicester Village. I was in Tin-Top. Rick
  20. Dave / Greg - thanks for organising. Got me up (and my daughter) early and had a great time. Can't tell the wife I was allowed to lead for a while as it would be too big a role reversal at home and I'm too old too change. Next time I shall secure papal dispensation for a longer time so as to enjoy cuppa. Good to meet you all. Rick
  21. Can I come please? Need to check with wife that my weekends chores can be started a little later than usual (a couple of hours will be OK I'm sure). I don't care where I go as I am a follower in life not a leader. Do enjoy; Baldock - Buntingford - Newport - Debden - Thaxted (cup of tea) - Finchingfield (alternativie cup of tea) - Wethersfield - Sible Hedingham......but feel I probably need a change and don't know many other routes. Happy to go anywhere Rick
  22. Well; I am also sad old bloke so we have something in common, and I was driving and getting wet. Bought Rich's car and still not lost the grin (wet or dry). Rick (aka Flaps)
  23. Half my house has gone in that skip, but it was BRGreen. No cooking over Christmas, just a stand pipe in the kitchen. And worst of all my poor little car is exposed to the elements to make way for builder-type things inthe garage. Rick
  24. Having a cup of tea 13:00 and yellow and ? drove through. On return trip I was 2 slow cars behind bright yellow at around 16:00. Missed which turning you took and chose wrong one. Hope you both had good days out.
  25. Sunday; wreck 7 Monday; fill hired Golf GT TDi with 50l of petrol......car stops. Tuesday: fly from Stansted, plane has mechanical failure (on the ground, thank god) so 2 hr delay. Phew; bad luck comes in three's. Not always: Thursday; flight from Hanover delayed 2 hours. Friday; so far so good ....
