  1. This morning an aeroscreened blue with orange stripes near Bolney. I waved from the tintop. Near lunchtime, a green and ali with two up near Storrington. Peter
  2. JK - the sourcing of additives to increase the octane of fuel for the Merlin engine shortly before hostilities is an often overlooked and underestimated critical factor in Battle of Britain. It's very unlikely that the Hurricanes and especially the Spitfires tangling with the Bf109s would have been able to hold their own without the power boost the higher octane delivered. I have the story somewhere in my military history library... Peter
  3. What sort of dirt? Are you sure it isn't just excess dirt catching oil on the foam sucked through to the trumpets? If so it's easily cleaned out and a reminder not to over oil the foam. If it is proper muck check that the foam filter is properly fixed to the backplate including at the bottom and front and that the foam itself isnt peeling away from the foam housing. Peter
  4. Do you get a vacuum whoosh when you open the filler cap? That was a symptom of my fuel starvation problem. Peter
  5. I had the same problem with my 2004 R300K. It was a real bu99er to start from stone cold. It could take 5 or more cranking attempts before it would finally fire up. I never did get it cured. With a engine upgrade including moving to coil pack and with a K6 Emerald it is much better though the mapping needs tweaking to get to start first time from cold. It now fires first time but then dies immediately. It almost managed to fire and stay running first time this morning... Peter
  6. I went from OE Bilsteins to NTR1s recently. (2004 R300K upgraded to about 190bhp.) I considered Quantums but was advised that for almost exclusive road use the NTR1s would be good enough and save a few £££s. I've only managed 500 miles or so but, with a suspension set up - corner weighting etc, the handling has been transformed. I've yet to play with the Nitrons to get a slightly more compliant ride for poorer road surfaces but will wait until after track laps at CLM next month. I doubt you'll be disappointed with either NTR1s or Quantums. Peter
  7. I should have a set of refurbished 13" (2×6"; 2×8")wheels shod with new ZZSs back next week after running CR500s for 8 years. I'll report my experience and impressions when I have them back and the weather improves. Peter
  8. I sent the shift light box unit to ACES last Monday. Julian Adams rang mid-week to discuss my specifications and said that if the unit didn't work when it was reinstalled as I had gone wasted spark as part of my upgrade, they would reprogramme it again at no cost. The unit came back on Friday programmed to my specification and it works perfectly - all for £36 including VAT and p&p. Peter.
  9. Mankee - I've sent you a reply. Peter
  10. 1 pair green 1 pair pink Very little used so in good condition. £12 for both pairs inc p&p or £7 for one pair (state preferred colour!). Peter
  11. Anyone wanting an SV without breaking the bank shouldn't be put off by the mileage. Definitely worth a look. Peter

A red Seven at 1025 near Sevenoaks. I was in the tintop on the other side of the articulated lorry blocking both carriageways as it reversed so couldn't catch your attention. Peter
  13. I should have made clear that you are measuring resistance across the outer and middle pins in the TPS. Set the multimeter to 20k and try to adjust the TPS to .43. I set it at .45 and by the time I have faffed trying to hold the TPS in position it will have slipped to .43. (I'm happy to be corrected by those of a more technical bent ;) ) Peter
  14. Try 0.43 (from an old Minister guide sheet). Peter
  15. I don't have a wiring diagram though I recall there is something on the ACES website. There's nothing wrong with the earth which I disconnected and reconnected when removing and refitting the box. It's earthed to one if the bolts on the bulhead by where the steering column enters. There are three wires into the box plus a din type plug from it to the lights themselves. Having spent several hours contorted to trace and untangle the wires behind the dash I have lost the will to contort for some time to come. At least it has reminded me that I'm overdue for my monthly osteo session. I suspect that the issue lies with the new ECU which with the immobiliser expects the shift light circuit to be there. Peter
  16. Well, sick of hanging upside down under the dash trying to trace wires etc, this morning I reconnected the shift light box and now the immobiliser works again and the engine starts. When I'm in a better humour I'll tidy up the wiring and connections. At least I hadn't snipped or knocked any other wires under the dash which was a concern. Reprogramming the shift light box is on hold until further notice...Peter
  17. Anyine know how to reset the Toad immobiliser or to disconnect it without b*ggering up something else!? (See also my post in Chitchat.) Peter
  18. Anyine know how to reset the Toad immobiliser or to disconnect it without b*ggering up something else!? (See also my pist in Chitchat.) Peter
  19. I'll give it a go... after a long walk kicking inanimate objects to get rid of my frustration for messing it up. Peter
  20. The immobiliser has worked fine until today. Ignition light comes on but fuel pump doesn't prime so the immobiliser is doing its job. I hope the reset procedure for the Toad is in the handbook... Peter
  21. 2004 K Series R300 with recent engine upgrade by BOSS. The car also has a new Emerald K6. All has been fine since I got it back. The ACES shift light unit is going back to ACES to be reprogrammed for the higher rev limit (it's not the user programmeable version) and I've spent several hours untangling the various wires and disconnecting them in and around the driver's side scuttle. Having removed the unit I thought I should check that the car still starts. It doesn't! The Toad immobiliser won't switch off. I've never had problems with it before. Any suggestions please? Peter
  22. Adrian - yes thanks. Some good close Caterham action. Peter

    Petrol !

I recall that the handbook for my K Series is clear that Ron98 should be used in the R300. Peter
