  1. Steve, i graduated to slicks last year with my Blackbird. Call Colin on Sticky slicks and he'll tell you what he's got. I use 6.5 and 8.5 MB wheels although any 6 or 8 inch will do. He usually has second hand Avon radials with plenty of tread left . Last year he was about £15-00 a tyre. Transformed the car on the track. Better everywhere and cheap as chips. I'll go and have a look in garage and tell you the size. Size is 23/57-13 on t'back and 16/53-13 on t'front. Standard wing bracketry. The backs are bloody wide and many people would suggest you go 6inch all round. The choice as they say "is yours" New slicks are bloody expensive and there's no point unless you're racing. If possible you need to get your car stiffer and firmer damped for slicks but i'd try a set and see how you get on before buggering around with your car. 2. Actually i'm going to Autosport on friday so i can go and see them there and explain the problem. In the troubleshooting bit on their website it says HT leads could also be a problem with suppresion but as i've not had the problem before it's more likely not this i think.
  3. cheers, i'll give Stack as ring and prepare myself for a bit of dashboard gymnastics. Trouble is my focal length these days is longer than the distance from my eyes to back of dash when i'm under there with my legs out the top of the cage. Involves a lot of one eyed squinting
  4. Thanks chaps. What i get is the tacho needle going down below 0 and all the digital stuff disappearing but the back light remaining on. The shift lights all come on as well. There is some misting of the unit and i do not have any low battery light coming on. Do you think it sounds internal in which case the bugger will have to come out. Thnks Neil
  5. Cat Mids will disuade anyone from modifying more or less anything with their car that Caterham themselves do not do and are not really interested in buying any modified Caterham second hand on a trade in for example. Particularly mods with engine. Cheers Neil
  6. Hi, my whole stack unit has developed an annoying habit of completely turning off when the engine is running. I've wiggled everything i can think of under there but can't seem to isolate the cause of the power loss. My car is a Blackbird with an immobiliser unit , battery isolater switch and no key. Any ideas? Cheers Neil
  7. Hi Ming , just got your Nova box in my new engine!! Had to have a new cog which graham at Nova sorted but otherwise brilliant. Anyway.....back to your numberplate. Cheers Neil
  8. Get a lowered floor fitted or ditch the leather and make up a race seat . Tall FIA bars look crap, avoid at all costs. I should know i've got one!!
  9. Any of you Blackbird owners or Fireblade for that matter tried Keihin flatslides on your lump. I have acquired some rather cheaply and will try them out. Anything i should know before i start fitting them. I'm told they can be a bit of a bugger in starting but once started they go like a b+++++d. I also expect maybe to lose a bit of drivability in the mid range but better top end. Prey tell. Cheers Neil.
  10. Nick, sounds like the same symptoms as my mates R400 stopping and then running intermittantly. His problem was fuel pump and we sorted it the day before le mans. My Blackbird is carb as you know so not much help but it sounds very fuel pumpy to me. With it being in the tank is it replaceable seperately? I've got a Blackbird Haynes manual so will look at that to see if i can help any. I've got to have my engine out by the way , for the first time , as my fourth gear is starting to jump out under hard acceleration. I've got Mings Nova to put back in so all should be fine but i'm in a bit of a quandry as to how much refreshing i should do whilst engine out. Any advice accepted. I've been pleased with the way the engine and box have been but after god knows how mant trackdays and 8000 miles or so i think a refresh is needed. Cheers Neil
  11. Let me know if you need others as my mates old Blackbird was in that colour and i've loads of piccies.

  13. Yep, trail brake to apex and then progressive power feeling the front grip . Don't be too hasty else you'll just push on forward.

    Busa oil Q

I use Castrol R1 Superbike fully synthetic in my Blackbird Caterham. Also proper Honda filters and change regularly. Cheers neil

    Busa Conversion

Ahh i see, yes on the Blackbird it runs just off centre , i have to pull the propshaft about a cm or so once it's bolted to the cush drive to mate it to the Nova. Graham at Nova had a batch of crap ones which were copy of the proper GM one and i destroyed it almost immediately over a sprint day at Halewood. The GM ones come off a Vauuxhall Carlton i believe and once i put one of these on it's been fine. Cheers Neil

    Busa Conversion

Jason, why do your cush drives fail mate? Are they the same as on my Blackbird as supplied by Nova. Just interested that's all as i find them quite reliable on mine. Cheers Neil
  18. I'd better drive it Rich and see what it sounds like. Could be diff or wheel bearing or could be TADTS. Cheers Neil

    Freestyle Dampers

Response from Freestyle???????......don't make me laugh *rolleyes* They are a fictitious company and Gary May doesn't exist 😬
  22. From a RR Sport 10 spoke with 255/50 r 19 Goodyear Wrangler F1 Tyres 80%. Selling on behalf of a mate who wanted some blingy 20 inch on his RR. Located near Loughborough Leics. I'll get a piccy up when i can. Wants £ 500 which seems good value to me. Blat mail me or n.gilby@yahoo.com if interested. Cheers Neil
  23. Roger, i had exactly the same a month ago. I got REALLY physical with it and gave it a bit of a tap with rubber hammer but had to give it an almighty pull and push for it to come off. I think it was one of the ball bearings got jammed. A good old coating of WD40 sorted it out.

    Slicks...

Well i'm going to get a set of second hand radials from Colin at Sticky Slicks as he's only a couple of miles away. I'll bring em to the club day at Cadwell and we'll see how they do. Sod's law it'll be raining!! Can't be bothered buggering around with the suspension so i won't be getting the best from them but as i'm already on a very stiff set up then hopefully they won't be too bad. Just as long as they slide progressively, that's all i ask. Till then....
