  5. I am selling a 1.8 K series engine which was bought by me in 2009 as a low mileage R400 but was run on Jenvey throttle bodies and an Emerald ECU. Since then, it was comprehensively rebuilt by Tom New (of New Techniques) in 2014 and has since done less than 3000 miles. The parts installed on the rebuilt engine included: Steel rods Forged pistons Ductile HD cylinder liners Main and big end bearings Piper 1444 camshafts Valve springs, guides and shims Oil pump Water pump The engine is currently installed and running with the Jenvey 45mm throttle bodies and the last rolling road session in 2019 produced about 210bhp and 150lbft torque at 6500rpm. The engine will come with the following: · Emerald K3 ECU with lead for EU3 K series · Jenvey 45mm throttle bodies with 90mm trumpets to fit K series fitted with injectors, fuel rail and air filter · Caterham Dry Sump that includes sump pan, bell housing tank, gold pump with mounting bracket and all hoses The engine is currently in the car (Southampton area) and can be heard running. Note: the exhaust, clutch and flywheel are not included. £7250 St eel rods
  6. I have 4 x Mike Barnby wheels with 1 year old Avon ZZS 215/55/13 for sale. the MB wheels are made up as 2 x 7.5” and 2 x 8.5” which fit the fronts and rears respectively. A couple of the outer rims have some chunks out of them from the odd touch of a barrier, but otherwise OK I believe. One of the outers is adonised, the others are polished. The ZZSs were bought in Feb 2023 and three are marked for date of manufacture as 2522 and one as 3622. They have been used for 8 sprints/hillclimbs and about 50 miles on the road. I would rather sell complete and can bring to the Awards. If anyone wants them I am looking for £1200 for the set. I thought I would put them on here first before putting on the For Sale section. If you are interested please mail me and I can send photos if required. Mike
  7. That I can do then - should have read it properly I will now put it in the diary to make sure!!

  13. I found a way to heat up the tyres at Anglesey on the Sunday I managed that twice going up to Rocket - you would think I would have learned!!
  14. If only I had set some more PBs!! Both Jeremy and I tried the ZZRs a few years ago when the requirement for !B to be road tyres came in and we agreed that they were the wrong choice for sprints and hillclimbs. Even though the ZZR was supposed to have the slightly softer compound it was not apparent in comparison to Class 3 (who were all on ZZS) in the dry and they were a nightmare in the wet. Of course it didn't help that the rake on the car was totally out but I think the ZZS is far better for what we do. When I changed to the ZZS I did keep the 215s at the front and they do not heat up much ....... but then neither do the rears in comparison to the Kumho supersofts. I cannot compare what it is like with smaller fronts but you do have to allow for more understeer on the first few corners, and it is certainly a different technique getting off the line! Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the grip they gave last year, it was not as dramatic change as I thought - but maybe I am just getting old! PGM did change the setup compared to the Kumhos to give more camber, front and rear though. Oh, and the other good thing is that they do not wear out so fast! Hope that helps Mike
  15. I agree with David and Chris - I think we should try the 220bhp limit in Class 4 for this year at least. Whilst it might be fun to see how well those with 220+bhp do on the 1B tyres in the same class - I certainly found it interesting*eek* when I went back to harder tyres when the change to 1B and 1C first came in..... Confirming Trouble maker's point, even with pretty equivalent power output the characteristics of a Duratec are worth about 0.3 sec at Gurston on the final climb after Ashes compared to my poor old K series...... I think it will be worth looking at the comparative times after next year and revisit the position if necessary. Mike
  16. I have had a couple of dropouts for the test day I have organised for the 26th. Does anybody want to take up the chance of some much needed practice, or to see how good those ZZSs really are? Let me know asap as we are not too far away. If you want any additional information please let me know. Mike
  17. They were pretty good until Quarry. Just let me down at the last corner. If only they hadn’t let me down there it would have been a pretty good run - in the 61s, so better than my fastest ....... Mike
  18. Hi Alan, Just thought I would mention that you seem to have transposes some numbers in the class record for Class 4 - it should be 62,17, not 62.71 . I don;t know, you bankers and figures! Mike
  19. Hi Justin, Can you add me to the list as well please - I would hate to be left out in the wet and cold! Thanks Mike Sankey
  20. I also have a dedicated pit crew coming with me (well maybe dedicated!) but still no emails to the names I sent in. Anybody else got anything yet, or maybe just filling in the names, email and phone numbers will be enough? Mike

    MOT Station

I can highly recommend Tom New - he did an excellent job on rebuilding my K series, and with the MOT. However, I usually use Field Motors at Bottings Industrial Estate, Curdridge (www.fieldmotors.co.uk, Phone: 01489 799950) which is nearer for my MOTs on most of our vehicles, from a Renault Master-based motor home to the 7, and for servicing (apart from the 7), and Alan has always provided great service...... including getting a BMW 3 series estate with a cooked and completely locked auto gearbox off the AA recovery truck in the middle of the night when the AA man was left scratching his head
  22. I had a very similar problem. Original alternator packed up and I had it repaired, it all tested OK on the test rig he used. The alternator charged fine but the warning light stayed on when I fitted it. I took the repaired alternator back to the repairer and he replaced some additional slightly worn parts, but the result was the same - charging, but light on. There was also a discernable high pitched whine from the alternator when the ignition was on, and a constant drain on the battery even with ignition off. I also got a replacement alternator (excellent service Revilla ) and that was fine, confirming that there was nothing wrong with the wiring. Took the original alternator back to the repairer again and he replaced the regulator pack - again - and now it works fine. Looks like you just can't rely on new components to work properly!! Mike
