  1. Twin Webbers on a crossflow... get it warmed up, floor it in 3rd to about 6000 rpm and then take the foot off the throttle, about a second and a half later on the over-run you get an impressive pop (bang-bang-bangity-bang-bang) and a good sized flame (great for scaring Nova boys cruising with their windows open - but timing is everything) and looks spectacular at night. Even more effective if the exhaust gasket is leaking to draw in extra air on over run. Oh... the exhast will need re-packing more often though.... Is the R500 picture photoshopped? Edited for typo. Jon - Sadly missing his car right now.... Edited by - jonboylaw on 28 Jul 2008 12:05:17
  2. Nick, I have a complete tuned dizzy, coil and rev limiter I just took off my 1800 xflow (160 Bhp spec) if you are interested. Gives about 9degrees at 1000 rpm and should be set to give about 30 degrees at about 6000 rpm. Blatmail me and if you are interested. Jon
  3. Hmmm, Duratec and a 6 speed... Mr Chambomg (Pete?) could be a very useful person to know.... If you have an engine and box lying about then offer it up and see what happens, I am sure we are all keen to know the out come.... Jon
  4. I think her life belts would keep me afloat..... 😬 Johan, let me know what you decide to do as I may possibly follow suit, kind of thinking that getting the post 96 long, I have the wishbones already, just need to know all the parts needed to switch from a top link to de-dion front end. Where in Sweden are you? I often get over to the Stockholm area. Jon
  5. Grubster, you really do have a luxurious garage 😬 Jon
  6. Johan, Are you running a Ford axle? if not then the perfect time to get the mods needed. Is this special casing the one that Steve is making at SPC? Good luck with the re-build. Jon Edited for typo Edited by - jonboylaw on 25 Jul 2008 02:02:18 Edited by - jonboylaw on 25 Jul 2008 02:14:40

    overheating

Head gasket and you will see evidence of water in the oil at some point, so watch out for emulsion in your cam cover. A pressure test will also show if you have some leakage (all above assuming leakage into the cylinders. Hopefully it is the pump and a quick fix for you. Jon
  8. Did you know etc...... 😬 😬 J
  9. Johan, Have a look here. Jon

    overheating

Thermostat? Usual test is to pop it into some boiling water with a thermostat, allow it to cool and watch for when it clicks closed. For waterpumps, try getting a match from Halfords and search the web for cheaper suppliers, or your local auto factor. Editted for typo. Jon Edited by - jonboylaw on 24 Jul 2008 23:11:02
  11. Johan, sorry ot hear about the ding, mine may be following yours to Arch soon and I will get the front sorted for a de-dion setup, changing from the extra-link set up I have. Hope all goes well what ever you decide to do. Jon

    Bad smell

A small furry animal deceased in the recesses perhapse? I once had a mink decide to use our garage as its final resting place whilst we were away on holiday.. smelled a bit ripe after a week or so!. Jon
  13. There is a starcom1 kit listed on e-bay... here Jon
  14. Another thing you might want to look for is any air geting in past the TB, look for any split pipes or cracks or loose clips that may allow air to be drawn in. As the condition is getting worse and now not really dependant upon the fules situation is could be something expanding with temperature and allowing air in to the intake and leaning out the mixture. Yet one more avenue to follow.... these things take time etc... Edited to ad: Also look at the crank/cam sensors /wires... if they are missreading the engine revs it will throw out the timing. 15. James If you get stuck, blatmail me. Jon
  16. There is one on ebay here. Nothing to do with me. Jon ----------------------------------- 1992 Xflow - Live Axle (Ford), Now featuring a Megajolt 3D ingnition.. Now looking for an LSD..
  17. Try Redline, they seem to have all sorts of odds and ends. Jon ----------------------------------- 1992 Xflow - Live Axle (Ford), Now featuring a Megajolt 3D ingnition.. Now looking for an LSD..
  18. Excuse the slight highjack here but does anyone know if Arch are able to build a full cage for a 92 Live axle? I just contacted Caterham parts and aparently they no longer are able to supply them. Jon ----------------------------------- 1992 Xflow - Live Axle (Ford), Now featuring a Megajolt 3D ingnition.. 19. PLEASE REPLACE YOUR TYRES WITH NEW ONES.... TRUST ME, IT IS NOT WORTH THE RISK. By now your tyres will have hardened considerably and the grip levels reduced significantly. You will find that they are not very progressive between gripping and slipping so no control if you do balls it up. 20. This definitely sounds like a fuel starvation issue and could be pump/pickup related, it does not sound electrical to me as all works fine when it is full and then gets progressively worse as the fuel is used, it is across the rev range and is worse under acceleration. Check the pump and pickup pipe as a priority. Hope this helps, Jon ----------------------------------- 1992 Xflow - Live Axle (Ford), Now featuring a Megajolt 3D ingnition.. Now looking for an LSD..
  21. Hi Dave, Any chance you could get a plug for the new tacho and butcher the loom a bit. It would not be a big job and get it all working again. After all, isn't 21, 3 x 7 (as in the ownership effort required.. 😬) Jon
  22. Is the fuel pump on the way out? Just a thought but if it cures when the tank is full then it could be a pumping issue. Jon
  23. Peter is correct, the phone will draw a few hundred milliamps, the Tom-Tom probably a bit more due to the screen, you can use a higher rated supply, but not a lower rated one so fine for the phone to use the tom-tom unit, but please re-check the voltage and polarity. Jon
  24. Not sure if this helps as it is for Drum brakes but here are a few shots of my handbrake (ford axle) here Jon
