  1. Hi Phil I'll keep a look out for you, Jonathan (Linton)
  2. Neil, If this is of any use, I made some quick notes with pictures when I fitted mine: here Jonathan
  3. Oh how I wish... perhaps the view out of the office might be more interesting if we were in Cornwall rather than the flatlands of Cambridgeshire 😬
  4. Hello, Nice to say hello - hope you had an enjoyable drive home! Jonathan
  5. Wasn't me, but I was out along the same bit of road 15mins earlier. Took the opportunity for a quick lunchtime blat from work (Cambourne) over to Grafham and back across country Jonathan
  6. I took some photos of my install of the mechanical pressure gauge: here. Easy to fit; the gauge looks OK alongside the other instruments and of course its much more reliable. Jonathan
  7. Hi James, Yes just drop me a blat mail if you fancy popping over at any time. I should have mentioned that I did also have a Cadence session before the upgrades - well worth it - and now the cars drivability is sorted its back to some more driver training... Jonathan
  8. I've just completed a round of upgrades to my 1.8K supersport. First, a visit to DVA for verniers and 52mm throttle body, which transformed my car since the timing was miles out. Its much nicer to drive, has bags more torque and I wondered why I didn't do it earlier... Then last week I had a new Powerspeed 4-2-1 exhaust fitted. Not such a dramatic improvement as the timing fix, but it looks & sounds much better. Plus I know its up to the job if (when) I pay a return trip to Oily's... I'd echo what DEyres said about talking to Dave, you'll get good advice. Looking at your location you're welcome to pop over and have a look at the exhaust if you like. Jonathan
  9. Whilst I understand the argument about CC approved upgrades, I do wonder about the quality of the upgrades. The previous owner of my car had CC do the 1.8K supersport upgrade. A couple of weeks ago I took the car to DVA and we found that the inlet timing was a tooth out - Dave fitted verniers and had to add 53thou of lift at TDC. Its totally transformed the car. IMHO there's no way the car should have left the factory that badly setup. I know where my money's going in the future... Jonathan
  10. Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go the greengauges route with the proximity sensor. Rob, can I ask how you attached the sensor? Thanks, Jonathan
  11. Hi Tom, Yes I have thought about the bike speedo, but I'd prefer to have the main dial working. I might use one as a temporary fix to get back on the road... Jonathan
  12. Following on from my current struggles to get the broken speedo drive quill out, the idea of going for an alternative speedo driven by wheel/propshaft sensors is becoming quite appealing, especially as I have the old non-adjustable speedo and want to switch to 13" wheels soon... John, I wondered how you were getting on with the propshaft bolt proximity sensor, and if you found an easy way to mount it. Would also be interested in any other feedback on the greengauges.com speedo. Thanks, Jonathan
  13. Well I've spent another couple of hours on it and still can't shift the begger All I've managed to do is break off most of the stub that was sticking out of the gear box speedo drive shaft. I'm a bit fed up as only a few days ago got back from Oily's having had verniers and 52mm throttle body fitted - Dave transformed the car (cam timing was miles out - needed 53thou of lift adding to the inlet ) and I'd rather be out driving it! Anybody got any other ideas? It seems to be really stuck in there hard. Thanks, Jonathan
  14. Thanks, I haven't got any small enough, but should be able to pick up a pair tomorrow. Jonathan
  15. Oh, and at least the shaft goes round when I roll the car forward, so if I can replace the £1 quill the jobs done! I only replaced it about 3K miles ago... Jonathan
  16. Hi Norman, Yes, looking at the old quill I'm sure you're right, its the same whichever way it goes in. Although I'm not convinced yet that its not wound such that it tries to undo itself! I'm struggling to get the old bit out, here's a picture of what I've got: here I've tried pulling it out with some pliers for a good hour now, but it doesn't want to budge Anyone have any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks, Jonathan
  17. I replaced my speedo drive quill last year because it was worn, but now the new one has broken in two. Looking at the way it has broken, would I be right in thinking there is a right way and wrong way of fitting it? I think I may have put it in such that the wires were trying to untwist... Unfortunately the untwisting has meant that the stub left in the gearbox end doesn't want to come out, so I'm just off to see if the local Halfords have some circlip pliers to get the brass top hat off. Jonathan Edited title to ask for suggestions getting the old quill out - see below. Edited by - JonathanP on 27 Aug 2006 16:08:01
  18. Thanks Guy - thats probably a bit too far from here (oh and either my map or your compass needs calibrating 😬) Jonathan
  19. Hi Doug, Assuming you're not over the other side of the country, I'm interested - let me know where you are. Thanks, Jonathan
  20. Spotted silver EU55... on the A505 near Whittlesford this morning - I was in the tin top going the other way. Jonathan
  21. Although I have yet to find any evidence of speedo being checked in MOT, apparently the Road Vehicles (Construction And Use) Regulations 1986 states that the speedo "If vehicle first used on or after 1.4.84, must be capable of indicating speed in mph and kph". Which does make you wonder how my '98 car got through its SVA? Jonathan
  22. Out of interest, for those that go the RaceCo can route, what do you do for the rest of the system? I'm about to go Powerspeed because I wanted a complete system with the ability to put the cat back on, but must admit the RaceCo can looks very nice. Jonathan

    Hi Bri, YHM, Jonathan
  24. I had one that was quite loud when standing in front of the car at idle - tracked it down to the fan. Took the fan off and eventually sussed where it was coming from: if you remove the circlip holding on the fan blade assembly and pull off the blades you'll find a small metal pin that fits through the fan motor drive shaft. Its interlocks with the fan blade assembly. Well that pin was loose, and you wouldn't have thought such a small thing could make so much noise! The plastic fan blades seemed to be amplifying the sound. A drop of JB Weld on it has sorted it. Probably not yours, but I thought I'd mention it in case it affects anyone else... Jonathan
  25. After a run, my car has had an anoying rattle when at idle. It sounds the loudest with your head in front of the radiator. Anyway, with some time to spare today I had a good poke around and found it was coming from the fan.
