  1. Well, the prop shaft is now the correct length (shortened by 3/4") so it doesn't trash the tail shaft oil seal, the diff's back on and centred (top tip - use a stick with a pencil mark on it), the upper mount bolt lightly kissed with emery so it's a snug fit and well copperslipped, the gear box mount spacer's fabricated (15mm billet aluminium £10 off eBay), the reverse light switch access hole's enlarged so the switch is now accessible, the switch connectors modified so they don't snag the beautifully crafted cover plate and the holes in the bottom chassis plate have been adjusted so the gear box misses the chassis rail at the front and the prop shaft clears the chassis rail at the back. What next I wonder?
  2. Tried that and was in danger of trashing the bushes then there really would have been problems. Will mention it to CCC. J.
  3. Yup! New, or rather, unused chassis and bolt out of the CCC rear axle or suspension fittings pack.
  4. Needed to remove the diff to take out the prop shaft (long story) to find the upper mount bolt utterly jammed into the RH metalastic chassis bush which would have been understandable had the car done a few miles but this is a new build (hence long story). Resorted to the Dremel to remove the bolt head and then drew it out with the nut and an increasing stack of washers whereupon it jammed in the LH bush this time needing a length of ali tube to draw it out. Ran the micrometer over the bolt and the head end of the shank is +0.6mm over the rest of the shank. So, moral of the story is run a micrometer over the bolt before you hang the diff on it to save the subsequent grief.
  5. Well it went in OK and looks right without the spacer. Thanks for all the responses.
  6. Hi, thanks for the responses, apologies for the delay in replying, I've gleaning verdicts from other sources and it seems that 5 mm's about right. Be interesting to see what happens when the engine and gearbox mount rubbers go soft! John.
  7. Afternoon all. Just dropped the above combo into a de dion chassis and I'm slightly concerned at how little clearance there is between the end of the prop shaft and the tail shaft oil seal, the prop shaft yoke is almost fully into the tail shaft with about 5mm to spare between the smooth bit of the yoke and the oil seal. The engine sits nicely on its mounts and the gearbox mount is a tad forward of the holes on the chassis plate. I know everything is fixed but is 5mm enough to cope with expansion, flex on all the mounts and general thrashing about? 72290 is the part that CCC supplied which I see on the website is for SV & CSR and it's about 26" long from flange to yoke tip. My c.1996 assembly guide says the yoke doesn't go fully into the tail shaft but I did expect to see a little more than 5mm poking out. Ta.
  8. Speedograph Richfield, Nottingham will make or adapt cables to suit the various end threads. Quick turnaround too.
  9. So you can, well spotted! The gods must have been with me that day as it's on the right way round as well.
  10. Hope not as I bought it yonks ago! On it's second ram now. I'll feed back how it goes. John.
  11. Well that turned into a challenge so at last here's the photo. Redline are brilliant, Mick and John are a mine of information and they hold a good stock of bits for older models. Not too bad a hike either from here in leafy Wooburn. /sites/default/files/images/users/4897/GB%20mount.jpg
  12. Evening Jonathan, beaten by technology at present, can you give me a few hints on how to upload photos from my laptop on to the page? The mount was bought from Mick at Redline. I can't see anything on the CCC website that looks like the mount, no surprises there but interestingly enough part No 72295E (out of stock of course) looks like the the spacer.
  13. Mmm, thanks for the response Elie, the gearbox/bellhousing spacer is already in place, that one gets referred to in Section 11.1 b), the one referred to in 12.2 - the section that deals with the installation of the engine and 'box is called the "gearbox mount spacer" and the implication is that it sits between the 'box mount and chassis plate. I think I'll just drop it in and see how it looks, it should be apparent if it needs the 'box lifting. CCC not very illuminating on the subject.
  14. Afternoon all, I'm about to drop a X Flow and Type 9 gearbox into a 2000 De Dion chassis and my c.1996 assembly guide says in bold print "A 9/16" gearbox mount spacer is required on Ford 5 and 6 speed cars". (Section 12.2). It also talks about a "chamfered edge" to the mount but as far as I can see the mount is symmetrical so I'm guessing that the current mounts supersede both these issues? Ta.
  15. Clip arrived OK, very tight fit in the gaiter but should do the trick. Bit of a rip at 8 quid odd delivered.
  16. The rationale I believe is that the lenses focus the beam in a straight line so that the lenses need to be vertical to achieve maximum brightness to following vehicles.
  17. May finish up doing the same myself, the boot itself (from Burton) fits reasonably well. Otherwise it'll be good old silicone.
  18. Many thanks for all the responses, very helpful. Rich, thanks for the link, looks like the right part so I've taken a punt on it. All the best, John.
  19. Any experiences or work arounds out there with running the clutch gaiter on a X Flow without the metal spring clip which is now well obsolete and virtually unobtainable? Ta.
  20. Any suggestions as to where one might acquire a right angle mechanical speedo drive for a type 9 'box and 3.9 diff? None at CCC or Redline. Ta.
  21. Anyone know the size and spec of the 4 prop shaft/diff flange bolts for a Sierra diff? Assembly guide just talks about "special blue" bolts. Ta.

Thanks Gents, Gillingham would be the centre of choice for me. Had a chat with the inspectors down there a while back regarding engines and they were incredibly helpful.
