  1. I really want to do a track day but I struggling to pluck up the courage to take part (I know how sad this must sound). However as this date is also my b'day I think I should grow a pair and get on with it. Apart from a helmet and insurance and having the car given a once over before hand, are there any 'must have' items I should be aware of? I would be driving my se7en to and from Brands so obviously not sticking it in a tyre wall is advantageous. Thanks in advance Jon
  2. I got some super long ones from Halfords and cut them to length. They are stainless so should last a while.

    Exhaust shield

Thanks for the info. Guess what I am going to be doing tomorrow!

    Exhaust shield

One of the three jubilee clips that hold on the heat shield for the exhaust has snapped (see pic). Before I struggle to undo the other two to try and change the broken one, does anyone know how they are attached to the shield - are the welded on? It seems well attached to the shield after a bit of waggling, but not sure if this is just corrosion. It is a standard k exhaust as far as I know. thanks Jon

    Charger Jump Start

Are you sure about that SM25T - you seem to be giving mixed messages
  6. I have a Halfords Smart Charge 100 which can charge at up to 8A. I hope that I never have to, but would it be possible to jump start the car using this. The garage is straight onto a main road so it is very difficult for me to get our 'normal' car close enough to the garage (or my seven to the normal car) to jump start in the conventional way. Jon
  7. SM25T (or Ian) are your instructions available somewhere other than in your emails? As a 7 novice I am trying to absorb as much info as possible and these sort of things are right up my street in helping me understand what I now own! Alternatively could you forward the email to me too please. Many thanks Jon

    Which Multimeter?

Thanks Paul. I searched 'multimeter', but not 'multi-meter'
  9. Having experienced my first k-click over the weekend and reading up on various posts, it seems the first thing to do is check voltage across various parts whilst doing various things, and also checking the resistance of various parts whiles doing various things. I have therefore concluded that I need a multimeter. There seems to be a lot to choose from, but are there specific functions I should look for or any recommendations. Jon
  10. Sorry, this may be an obvious question, but in the photos are there two sets of relays and connectors and what is the difference between the two? It had recently become a subject close to my heart and am investigating all the info on Blatchat. Jon Edited by - JonL on 30 Sep 2013 22:03:42
  11. Revilla - YHM - thanks SM25T - thank you for the offer, but I have got Revilla to send through the original.
  12. does anyone have a link to an electronic version of the article, or in a position to scan in the article for email? Think I had my first case of the click after stopping at a petrol station after a long drive-just a click when I tried to start, but roared into life after 40 mins of cooling down. I seem to remember the article bring nice and detailed which is what I want because electrics aren't my strongest attribute. I had left my copy of low flying to one side for such an occasion but it would seem that one man's 'one side'is another woman's recycling pile.
  13. I'll take two please. Let me know if you want any further info (or payment) prior to you placing the order. I appreciate that you have no idea who I am apart from a 7 owner (which is hardly a glowing reference!) Jon Edited by - JonL on 19 Aug 2013 13:37:23

    Where from?

Try HobbyCraft. It is just the sort of stuff my kids use when they want to get creative. You could probably get it in different colours!
  15. 4 weeks to the day with my new (to me) 7 and I thought it was raining. I was about 1 hour into a leisurely drive and then had a couple of minutes of more enthusiatic driving when the temperature shot up and I got a wet windscreen. The expansion tank was full and the leak was coming through the lid. Prior to this the car has been running at a very steady 80degC although it has had a very slight coolant drip which I sorted just be tighening the guilty jubilee clip. At the very start of the fateful trip the temp shot up to 110degC and I was about to stop then but then it suddenly dropped down to 80 and then fluctuated between 80 and 95 for the rest of the trip. The car had spent the night on a driveway with the nose about a foot higher than the rear (having done some reading it seems the cooling system is quite pitch sensitive). Following a ride back on lorry a topped up the coolant (which was just below the expansion bottle), started the engine which crept up to 110degC without the bottom radiator hose getting hot (the top one heated up nicely from the top to the bottom so it seems completey filled). The fan didn't start either cos the radiator nevergot hot. There doesn't seem to be any oil in the coolant. It is 1.6 k series engine with nice silicone hoses. I am not that mechanically minded but I suspect the thermostat, but would greatly appreciate any advice. The car is still under warranty from Caterham South, but it is going to be a hassle getting it there so if it is aneasy fix I am happy to have a go!

    Coolant Top-up

I have just found a Comma supplier where I live (Bennetts) so I will pick some up this afternoon. It is marginally more expensive than Amazon, but I can feel at ease this weekend knowing that I am driving around with enough coolant. Thanks for the info from you all, and the warm welcome.

    Coolant Top-up

Not sure what is in there already. I bought the car from Caterham South so I assume it is there approved Comma coolant. I was going to top up with halfords own brand as they have a shop on the way home from the station, and it is also pink! (I assume that colour matching works with all types of car mechanics!)

    Coolant Top-up

I am new to this 7 lark, as I only recently purchased by first Caterham 3 weeks ago (1.6 Kseries Roadsport) having wanted one since I was about 16 (almost 20yrs ago), so go easy on me. Anyway I am very happy with my purchase and have a stupid grin whenever I go out for a 'blat'. The only slight fly in the ointment is that I am leaking coolant ever so slightly from the hose connection of the 'submarine'. So far over the 3 weeks the level has only dropped from the max to the min level on the expansion tank. I have given the hose clip a tighten which should stop the drip, but I want to top up the coolant. I was going to go pick up a small bottle from Halfords, but wondered if there was a problem with potentially mixing different coolant types. Apreciate that this a realy novice question - I promise I am a very practical chap, but cars have alrways been a closed book to me. I think this is my oppotunity to learn.
