  3. My Dad places a lot of faith in the advice provided here and needs to find a specialist to look at his 2007 Mercedes 320CDI that is currently suffering from a significant parasitic battery drain. It has a recent battery. Is there anyone you would recommend in the South Bucks / Slough area? Many thanks Jon

  7. I'm not looking for quite such a garage queen and am a bit more flexible about spec / mileage (apart from must be a C2 manual coupe) as I want a decent usable car to drive, allow the kids in! and enjoy. Hence, I'm keen to hear about any L7C members looking to move their cars on. Thanks, Jon
  8. Thanks Christian, eyes wide open! This will be my 3rd Porsche and I'm the most anoraky careful buyer! Its likely to be a long search, but Blatchat sometimes turns out some good, well maintained cars so I thought it worth a try.
  9. Looking for one of these so I can carry both children at once :) Specifically a Gen 1 3.4 Manual 2wd Coupe. WHY? Many thanks! Jon
  10. Thanks, good tip on trying to find a friendly local garage with a battery condition tester. Its currently on the Optimate 3 in a blaze of green lights so on the face of it looks fine.
  11. Thanks guys, the Hilka overnight (on slow charge) seems to have done the trick! It was showing as fully charged and the immobiliser light on the car was back to flashing merrily. I reconnected it to the Optimate before I left the house (it immediately moved to the "Test" light that wasn't previously illuminating) this morning and may have got away with it... The PC680 is pretty small, sealed, gel type battery in a dedicated aluminium tray, mounted on its side, so when one breaks, there seem to be few options for replacement.
  12. I left my ignition on and have deeply discharged my fairly recent Odyssey PC680 battery. After 2 days on the Optimate 3, it has done nothing - only the green light to say it is switched on, none of the other lights come on at all. I've now attached it to a Hilka 8amp charger on overnight slow charge mode and no signs of life yet. Any tips? I suspect that I'll have to pay the £90+ stupidity tax and get a new one but if I could recover it that would be great! Thank you
  13. Thank you very much for your responses. This is now covered
  14. Hi, Have any of you upgraded to big front brakes and willing to sell me your (good condition) original calipers? Please let me know what you have and how much you want for them. Many thanks! Jon
  15. Thanks, maybe the bracket needs attaching to the block first and then re-attaching to the alternator. I'll try to speak to Redline and the other suggested if necessary tomorrow
  16. Thanks Dave, so with the Valeo it looks like the mounting maybe be pretty standard but compromised? With just a single bolt at the bottom and another on the arc at the top?
  17. Thank you very much for the extensive tips and advice. Sorry for the bad pics - pouring with rain and poor lighting. The alternator seems to be stamped Made in France? Also I'm not convinced the bracket is the same? Certainly the current arrangement makes it very difficult to connect a second lower bolt. Any further thoughts much appreciated! It might well be good to catch up with you Nick at some stage (I'm in Wimborne) to take a closer look.
  18. Having had some alternator troubles over at the Silverstone Classic, I'm now very keen to improve the existing setup for how it is mounted if at all possible. I'm also looking to find out what exactly to order from the likes of Redline. I've owned the car for 12 years and its always been fixed with a single bolt into the engine block at the bottom and a fixing on top into the bracket. The second hole for it to fix to the block has never had anything and consequently its always seemed to be in a slightly twisted and in a compromised position. Access the the middle hole into the block seems to be extreme;ly tight and compromised and its not at all clear what would go in there if anything. How is yours fitted? Do you know the specification of the bolt/s / studs? Got any photos? :) Many thanks! Jon
  19. I've owned a x-flow for over 12 years now and probably put 15,000 or so miles on top of the 12,700 it had when I bought it (Odo has been intermittent for a number of years...) The spec is unclear but suspected to be a fairly standard "Supersprint" spec, dynoed at around 125bhp.The engine has never been opened up during my ownership (beyond taking the rocker off and doing to tappets), it doesn't smoke and fuel economy is really not that bad, especially on a run. As others have said, Megajolt 3D ignition was a dramatic improvement (following a second failed distributor) both in terms of economy and driveability - the pops and bangs seem sadly a product of compromised distributor ignition timing rather than an underlying characteristic! X-Flows with that pushrod thrum and twin 40 Weber induction just seem to have far more character than the vast majority of 7 engines...
  20. My brother has asked me to help him sell his unused, brand new, unlocked Apple Iphone 4S 16GB in white. £100 including UK mainland delivery.
  21. I called Powervamp and they told me that they had not been marketing the PVR25 for at least 2 years - that it had always just been a rebadged Odyssey PC680. They offered to look at it if I sent it back to them but wouldn't make any promises. I noted that the PC680 was available elsewhere for significantly less money (jjcraceandrally via ebay seemed best) and that returning what is at least a 5 year old battery to Powervamp was likely to just be throwing good money after bad.
  22. The case looks perfect but it appears to be weeping from the bottom edge of the plastic rectangular cap (that ultimately holds the terminals on top). I can only guess its about 5 years old.
  23. My powervamp pvr25 appears to be leaking slightly, corroding the tray. It is mounted on its side but I did not expect it to leak! It appears to be holding perfect charge on the conditioner (optimate 3) so it seems a shame to have to replace it but do I have any other sensible options? Many thanks, Jon
  24. I had one of these back in the day, an F-reg 1.6i-16 also in Silver. with 130bhp screamer, 895kg and double wishbone suspension alround it was fantastic! Not surprised they're also rapidly turning classic...
