  1. Chris Thinking of an upgrade? I always knew you wanted a real mans engine! When do you get your 2.0 16v vx engine! Best move youll ever make! James wink.gif
  2. I have nearly got my 7 ready for a few track days. Am I going to have a problem with the noise regs? It is a 96 16v 2.0 vx with carbs. If so are there any fairly simple cures? I was hoping to go to Brands Hatch. I was also thinking of Goodwood! Can the noise be easily measured by me or do I just turn up and hope for the best? Thanks in advance James
  3. James I drove up that road this morning very slippery! Do you visit Boxhill as i have seen a few 7s there? What colour is your car? Mine is brg/ali Good luck sorting your car out. If you are worried it may be worth having a 4-wheel alignment check done just to make sure all is well. This will also sort out the tracking etc James
  4. Where are the zig-zags? James
  5. James It is a popular myth that you can "knock your tracking out". The only way of altering it is either by adjusting something ie track rod ends or suspension or by bending something. I have not removed the rack on my 7 but it appears as if it located by the alloy mounts. Maybe it has slipped on these? If you remove the mounting blocks you should be able to see if there has been some movement. This would be the most likely cause of the column being closer to the engine. If the engine has grounded out it may be worth looking at the mounts. If it has moved I would imagine it would be obvious by the exhaust-body clearance,g.box-tunnel area gearstick etc It may be worth checking the rack feels smooth ie no tight spots when you turn it with the wheels off the floor and that it has no play in it or the track rod ends. Good luck James
  6. Julian Ford recommend 5w30 for the zetec engine. If the oil is a lot thicker they tend to have problems with the hydraulic tappets etc holding the valves open. Mobil 1 0w40 would about right. Good luck James
  7. Forgot to add that if you are replacing it sbd etc can supply a nylon type valve which is a safe precaution against it getting stuck James
  8. Stewart The relief valve is on the exhaust side of the engine. It is the 22 or 24 mm bolt on the side of the oil pump. If you are removing it it is easier to remove the engine mounting on that side. If you do this remember to thoroughly clean the surrounding area first and make sure no dirt etc gets in there when you replace it. James
  9. Arnie Do you have a cyl head? What would you call a sensible offer? James

  11. Arnie Sorry to hear about your engine.Hope they paid for it. When you get your crank does this mean you are single handedly putting an end to the over weight vx myth! James
  12. Arnie Thanks for the advise. Who do you recommend for the exhaust? An off the shelf system or a one off. Is the ideal type equal length downpipes and a 4-2-1 collector box type setup? What did sbd do to your engine? My vx on carbs (I am embarassed to admit) averages approx 30 mpg. Maybe I drive too slowly! It has probably been covered before but does anyone know the approx weights of the 2.0 vx and the k-series? Are the ancillaries much different? On some Ford engines diesel con rods are used because they are stronger. Is this possible on the vx? Does anyone know the differences between the 2.0 8v and 16v engine blocks? Thanks in advance James Edited by - James on 28 Dec 2000 23:54:22
  13. Arnie Have you had experience of the sbd throttle bodies on an other wise standard engine? The reason I find it hard to believe the 208 bhp output is that it is nearly 30 bhp more than an engine on 45 dellortos or dcoe All the other throttle body kits from other suppliers claim similar power to a carb setup (within a few bhp). It seems exagerated to say the least. The choke sizes are very similar to either a carb setup or other throttle bodies. The reason for asking is that I have looked into throttle bodies instead of carbs and so far the only advantages I can see are better throttle response and a smoother power band etc I find it hard to spend nearly £1800 on this for a small gain in power instead of head work cams etc etc Thamks in advance James cool.gif
  14. K-series engines make very good paper weights! (if a little light) If they are that good what happened to Rover? James (proud vx owner)
  15. Al I suppose all the BEST things are put in museums Just to remind us what a real engine is all about TORQUE! James (running for cover)

    Diet

Have you seen me? What a small world it is! The other day I had my paper underpants on. Then it started to rain. They went soggy and fell off which left me naked! I continued in the name of science but after they released me I decided that there was no marked improvement. Any other ideas? James cool.gif

    Diet

When the summer arrives (hopefully) I will be doing a few track days. What is the best way of putting car on a diet. '96 2.0 vx (dont say fitting a k-series!) I am thinking of removing: Heater Windscreen Spare wheel and carrier Any other ideas? Thanks in advance James
  20. I will be getting a rear anti-roll bar soon Which type is most suitable? My 7 is a '96 2.0 vx hpc Which settings are best to start off with? Thanks in advance James
  21. Chris It is out of a rover 414 m reg It has multipoint injection What is difference between the two Wet or Damp liner? Are they not all the same? James
  22. Engine will be thrown away in the new year!

    16" tyres

I have so2 on my tin top and they are great. Car is a Granada Cosworth 205/50/16(similar weight to my 7 2.0 vx!) I have a set of f1s on my 7. Very good wet and dry grip 185/60/14 Has anyone tried so2 on a seven? I am thinking of a set 195/50/15 If so what pressures work best. Thanks in advance James
  25. Alex Stick with a proper engine! I am looking to up-grade my vx soon. SBD reckon 208 bhp with their throttle body kit alone. This seems very optamistic to me. I am unable to see how 30 bhp can be gained by just doing this. Has anyone had experience of this? James
