  1. Thanks Tom will check when running (the engine not me)
  2. The trouble with oil level is that the dipstick is useless as i know i have about 5.5 litres but the oil level showns over the plastic marker at the sump end of the stick so slightly in the dark
  3. if the switch is set to 30 or 35 psi this presumably means that when warmed up and at idle the warning light (when i fit it) will be on. I understand the switch can be set lower or higher, does anyone know how as no instructions came with the set up from Think Also Dave, what seems right? the 5.5 litres of oil, the pressures or both? 4. I've searched tech and though there's alot on fitting etc my question isn't to be found soooo.. Have fitted Mech OP guage from Think Auto as old CC guage was Kaput. I now show 65/70 psi on start up and about 40 -60 on driving and at idle when all heated up the pressure sits at about 25psi is this too low? Oil is 10w 50 and is probably due for a change Also 1.8 kseries with Apollo is 5.5 litres of oil right (sounds right from menory)
  5. Paul someone told me your car had been stolen, was that a load of old cobblers then?
  6. Jonathan/Steve Many thanks just what i needed for a fulfilled weekend. Really hoping my guage has had it rather than actually having o/p jumping between 0 and 8 bar
  7. Thanks Steve that seems a bit clearer now
  8. Bought Oil Pressure Guage (plus other necessary bits using 7FAQ)from Think Auto. I can see how it all goes together, but 2 questions 1) Somewhere in Techtalk someone wrote out the best routing of pipes/ wires back to dash but despite endless searching i cannot locate it 2) If i'm getting rid of the standard Caterham guage can i use the existing electrical wiring to power the big red warning light rhather than taking a feed off somewhere else which knowing me i will f**k up seems to me this must be possible 3) What is the best way of securing the T piece and where and whats the drilled hole for? Yours in Numpty Land WB
  9. will check and will go mechanical
  10. i assume from the searches that a mech guage is pretty simple to fit
  11. Went out last night, car fine(1800 wetsump VHPD head and Apollo Tank) this morning drive to work and notice OP is at 8 bar (maximum) and moves only a tad once car warmed up a bit. Having read all the techtalk comments i know this is done to death but i can't find anything that relates to this particularly. Is it likely to be the notoriously bad guage from CC, blocked pick up? car sounds same as usual and seems to drive OK. Did recently fit a one way valve in top hose of Apollo and this has been working fine any comments or ideas welcome
  12. This is a lovely car though haven't seen him for a while he took my son round Combe in it. He'll need a Caterham cos the Aston won't start that often
  13. I had this exact prob, replaced flasher and a broken bulb but still no joy then discovered hazard switch has to be fully off and mine has small amount of movement in it which stops the indicators working
  14. I've just purchased one of these from Automotive to help maintain OP on start up. Seems easy enough to fit so i assume they go in top hose that runs from Apollo to top of cam cover and that the oil needs to be prevented from flowing back in to Apollo Is this right? seems very easy to fit
  15. Still no joy if car to be ready for weekend anybody know the part number ? Halfords f**king useless what is the point of their existence?
  16. Need to order thermostat and housing Millwood have housing but cannot get 82 thermostat and can't get housing to me before bank holiday Are these standard rover parts and if so can i order from Autoparts and if so does anyone know the part numbers as they will be able to deliver tomorrow Edited by - wild bill on 12 Apr 2006 16:00:41
  17. thanks for all the comments, very much in line with my thoughts having spoken to Rob walker. Im putting an 82 thermostat in and not writing off HG as this was only recently replaced with a competition gasket and very carefully put back together so other options first. Will let you know the results Bill
  18. Thanks Shaun for the info The bit on liner heights is of note as i recall Rob mentioning something of that nature so i'll give him a buzz. Car runs with a manual fan switch and has been fine temp wise until now
  19. ☹️ I've searched Techtalk but need an answer to a couple of questions which i can't satisfy with the search. I need to order a new thermostat (the old one has been discarded) and have been reccomended a 72 degree stat as i am running 1.8 k series with throttlebodies and vhpd head along with emerald ecu. Millwood only do a 82 or 88 so did i mishear the advice or is there a 72 and is it worth fitting . Question 2 relates to my post of a week ago re Broken 7. AA man reckoned that car had got hot due to stuck thermo and then this had caused head gasket issues however i am a bit mystified as a) The headgasket had only recently been replaced with a more robust version than the standard Rover one b) The guage seemed to work absolutely fine and the car did not go anywhere near the red before i stopped What is the point of the guage if it doesn't prevent these kind of issues don't technically get this Any comments welcome Rob Walker or Paul Jacobs any suggestions gratefully received

    Broken 7

Thanks for the offer John but i can't see a way of getting it to Sussex and the garage next door to me (literally) do quite a few sevens so they'll look at it week after next. New 72 degree thermostas and possible new head gasket It's been a poor week family and car wise BUT i am an eternal optimist and at least i am not starving and the family are safe and in good health, everything else is really rather unimportant in life, it's only money after all. I'm sure we'll get the car fixed and i will then just have to see what else can go wrong There seems to be a bit of scum in the header tank but when the engine was done we did the dowels and upgraded the gasket so it would be unfortunate but that's cars for you Talk to you all upon my return next week with update

    Broken 7

i've just had a bath and thought about it and i just love the seven too much to dump it. However the car didn't overheat it just got hotter than normal (which is why i stopped) according to the guage but there is a bit of scum in the header tank. Garage will have a look at it in a couple of weeks. I would be a bit surprised if it's HG but actaully thinking about it, nothing would surpise me with a seven. I think it's 1 week on the road seven off And the real p**ser was 6 hours in a car park in staines and not one spotted

    Broken 7

9 hours to get home, 6 hours spent in Sainsbury's Car Park in Staines having been in Essex for a wedding. How do you guys cope with living in the south east, I spent hours watching what can only be described as a huge number of overweight morons filling up with petrol. Truly staggering I think thermostat stuck closed so car got hot (though guage didn't go over the 4th bar) and mr AA man says pressure building in system so he thinks head gasket gone which resulted in a truck home to Somerset. (Fitted new head gasket and dowels only in November and car has done about 200 miles since) I seem to have rotten luck with this car and wish either i had left it well alone and not upgraded or got anothr porsche, at least they can manage more than a few miles without needing roadside assist. Sorry guys but seriously p**sed off and fed up ☹️ Time for another 993 so may have brand new aero and half doors for sale shortly. Don't know next step but am flying to Morocco tomorrow to relax will decide what to do whilst pondering on a beach. Big thanks to Rob Walker and Paul Jacobs for their phone advice
  23. I can't find a superglue that's waterproof, maybe silicone is the way to go
  24. Fitting rubber to RiF Aeroscreen what's the best contact adhesive to use. Sikaflex is no good as it requires time to set and a huge number of pegs.
