  1. so how long should an apollo last then?
  2. Renny you are of course absolutely right and sorry if i've offended Safety is paramount and i'm not suggesting scrimping but any searching on the net brings up the fact that all helmets need to meet a minimum safety standard so often alot of what you pay is for image/looks/branding rather than what actually counts. Of course it was the bike shop that commented on the standards which is exactly why i didn't buy from them but from Merlin Motorsport to motorsport BS standards even though i don't intend to race. And my wife would probably tell you that my head is definitely sub £50 DW I'm at Keevil on Mon and Combe Wed
  3. Matt I had this exact question yesterday and as i have trackdays next week and need a helmet thought i'd check. A bike helmet to Euro spec whilst fine for Rossi at 200mph is not accepted in british motorsport depite being of a higher test rating. The helmet must be to BS however trackdays rarely check. I've now purchased a BS helmet from Merlin Motorsport at Combe for £97 and this will do for trackdays and racing should it be required. Also my investigation has shown that common thinking is that there is no difference between a £50 helmet or a £500 helmet as far as safety is concerned as there is a minimum standard. only quality and durability of linings paintjob etc will be better and the more expensive helmet may last longer. This might be bollox but would seem logical.

  10. Thanks old but not slow, think next chat will be with Dave to take his advice go from there. I want to end up with a crackingly fast seven for road and the odd track use but not at the expense of reliability (which i think is where R500 territory seems to be judging by others comments. K05 looks to be the way forward but i'll have a chat with dave and see what his comments are Cheers
  11. Currently have 1800 supersport and thinking of increasing power as Tax man has been kinder than i had thought Have looked at DVA and could go K03 K04 or K05 the questions are twofold Will the extra £1k for the K05 as oppsed to K04 really be noticeable and will the engine keep it's reliability as i do not want to be rebuilding engines . Perhaps K03 and then add later? Over to the cognescenti
  12. Numpty question but i'm thinking of buying one of these but with the one way flaps what happens in a straight line as the oil presumably can't get access to the pick up so what happens when the pick up has used all the available oil or am i missing some basic concept here? Also can't get hold of hellier and have emailed and called any advice Edited by - wild bill on 18 Apr 2005 12:21:04

    Apollo Tank

Is this a good idea to fit as i do the odd track day and dont want the expense of a dry sump (i don't run on slicks anyway) last trackday the car got a bit noisy after a while which was sorted with an extra half litre of oil as suggested by a race mechanic present. I understand how it works but is it a good idea and is it easy for a novice car DIYer to fit?

  20. I'm up at Castle Coombe tomorrow and have 2 questions 1) I'm taking off the current eight spokes with Avon CR500s as they're not that old and replacing with my spare minilites fitted with worn Yokohamas (a021r's from memory) as this is the first trackday with the seven what's the advice on tyre pressures, i've heard it's best to put 2-6 extra PSi in 2) With the car running aand warm i've also been told that a drop more oil wouln't be a bad idea as i'm not dry sumped and it will limit surge a bit is this bollox?
  21. I know there have been questions posed about noise reduction for trackdays so in case this helps heres a link http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/catalogue/search.asp?CLS=MSPORT&keyword=supertrap&submitButtonName=Go Called a supertrap and they bring noise down to below 100 db if your borderline
  22. Had same problem turned out that there were no drain holes in the light box so they filled with water this caused an intermittent prob Now have 2 holes drilled in bottom of light cluster and problem cured it may be this simple on the other hand it may not
  23. Ahhhhh i knew Battered old supersport would have something sensible to say Where in France are you? I visit yearly en famille although take my old VW bus (65 21 window split Samba) can't wait to move out there but may take me a couple of years yet 😬 Speak french fluently so can't wait. Glad for the sensible advice and am quite happy to fix as necessary glad no doom mongers have yet replied (there's alot)
  24. I have read alot on here about temp stats and HGF on 'K' Series. TBH i service the car regularly, and drive it all the time (13500 miles on the clock) I've got a 1.8 SS and now wonder do i need to check temp stat, how do i know what i've got fitted, do i need to check coolant levels and bleed the system or should this have been done in the service? Should i leave all as is. Car runs at 80 degrees all the time unless heavy traffic which is rare down in the west country I'd be grateful for any sensible answers those along the lines of stop driving immediately your about to blow up will be ignored
