  1. It amazes me that something which in principle should in be so straightforward to define can be open to so many different interpretations. Especially when the consequences of a misunderstanding could be so significant in the event of an accident. Anyway, to quote the GOV.UK page in full https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car/car-towing-weight-and-width-limits My car has a maximun towing capacity of 1200kg defined in the vehicle handbook. So my interpretation is that I am OK to tow a loaded trailer which does not weigh more than 1200kg. The maximum plated weight for the trailer is 1380kg. When I spoke to the trailer manufacturer (Brian James) about this and asked them to downplate it, I was told that it was only necessary if the car/trailer combination was going to be used for commercial towing. I don't want to take any chances and so I'm thinking that I should speak to them again and insist that they downplate the trailer for me, even if they advise that it is not technically required...
  2. That was Gizmo. Picked him up with a fresh MOT this morning.
  3. I have a '97 1.6K Supersport with a 4" silencer that's done over 30K miles. It's quite loud, but doesn't normally register above 102 dBA on a static test. It's too loud for drive by at Donington and Bedford, but haven't had any problems at Anglesey, Brands, Cadwell, Spa, Rockingham, Snetterton.

    Goodbye from Me

Many thanks for all your hard hard work and best of luck in your new pursuits!
  5. If you want a definitive answer, I would suggest asking the tyre fitters to check the balance of the (now) rear wheels before mounting the new tyres: first using a stud plate and then using a centre cone...
  6. Have the wheels been balanced on the studs or the centre holes. Mine can be balanced to 0g on the centre holes, but will be as much as 20g+ out when checked properly on the studs...

  10. Nice photos, Kev and Harry! Kev, you have BM...
  11. I replaced both the tank and the filler with an aero job last year following a an unfortunate anti-rollbar incident. Both the new tank and the new filler neck have one less connection than the old ones - I think it was decided the third was surplus to requirements in the Caterham installation so was dreprecated. In your situation, I would leave the spare tube attached to the tank but blank off the other end by doubling the tube back on itself and clamping with a jubilee clip or similar. I left the flap in place and have not experienced any issues when filling - the slot cut in the top of the aero surround helps entry in this respect.
  12. Fantastic, would rather see it go to a good home than down the dump! No Blatmail received yet, but my email address is at the bottom of the page here if you want to mail me directly.
  13. Sony Trinitron KV-32FQ75 U CRT Colour Television. In good working order complete with Instruction Manual, Stand and Remote Control. Free to anybody who is prepared to collect it from the Marlow area. Please note that this is a very large and heavy bit of kit so would require an estate car at a minimum to transport.
  14. Did they mount the wheels on the balancing machine using a cone through the centre hole or did they mount them using a stud plate? I had a similar problem and in my case it was resolved by balancing the wheels using a suitable stud plate because the centre holes were slightly offset. Most tyre fitters tend to use the cone by default because it is quicker.
  15. Following a rather unfortunate coming together between remains of anti-roll bar and aluminium tank, I now find myself with the opposite situation to SUPERLIGHT91. My old tank had a breather tube attached from top centre to one of 3 fittings on the filler neck (metro style). The new tank does not have does not have this top-centre connection. So I'm assuming the correct course of action if I'm sticking with my old-style neck is to blank off the third fitting? Does anybody have any views as to whether the lack of breather pipe in the centre of the tank contributes to filling problems? I've ditched the flappy insert (all the welds holding it in had already let go) so I'm hoping the net effect will be an improvement! Ian and Debbie 😬 1.6K SS Superlight #006 Penn Sevens Here

  18. I used to run a 1.6K with Apollo. The oil temperature was quite sensitive to oil level. If the sump was slightly overfilled then the oil temp used to run significantly higher due to the increased windage. I decided to switch to a Catreham dry sump system before upgrading to stickier tyres and this resulted in much lower oil temperatures. I'm very pleased with the upgrade - my only slight reservation was the belt driven scavenge which I keep meaning to fit a warning light for... Sorry if that wasn't the answer you were looking for! 19. Many thanks to Geoff and all involved in organising one of the most enjoyable trackdays I have ever been to! IMHO the Open pitlane format worked extremely well: 1) There was no queueing to get onto the circuit. 2) There was no bunching of cars at the start of each session. 3) There was more than enough tracktime available. 4) Everybody seemed so relaxed and courteous (probably as a result of 3) that Debbie was keen to get out there and get some laps under her belt as well. Brilliant!!! Ian and Debbie 😬 1.6K SS Superlight #006 Penn Sevens Here

  23. I have a 29" Sony CRT TV which is surplus to requirements. It is in very good working order so I would prefer so see it to go to a good home rather than taking it down to the dump.
