    Goodwood 28th April

It's not clear from the Finals for Goodwood whether there will be an opportunity to walk the track - does anybody know? Given how long the track is I'm thinking it would be a good idea to bring a bike, but if track walks aren't going to be on the cards then I'd sooner not try to pack one... Thanks in advance.
  2. Top advice from Elie - thanks! Spoke to Steve at Luke on a Friday, sent him photos of my current harness and a description of the changes I wanted made to the new one. He called me back on the Monday and took the order. New harness arrived on the Wednesday. Fitted it today and it's spot on. Stunning service from Luke Racing Systems .
  3. Thanks for all the comments. Titon from Meteor would have been the obvious choice, but I was aware of the supply issue. Will speak with Luke, otherwise I'll have to look at the much more expensive Schroth/Willans/Sabelt offerings. Any comments from people who have tried those options (particularly how short the waist straps adjust) would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi All, Looking to replace our 4 point harnesses for this season. We currently have the standard Caterham Luke ones, but ideally looking for something with shorter waist straps and top adjusters. Does anybody have comparative experience of the sizing of other brands e.g. Willans? Thanks in advance.
  5. I've just acquired a Yeti and am needing to undertake a similar modification to my Minno. BJ do 60mm and 100mm variants of the spacer kit. It looks like 60mm should do the trick from my measurements, but can anybody with a similar setup confirm which one they went for? My towbar height is approx 490mm to the middle of the ball. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi Jon, I'm also interested in options. I was chatting to one of the attendees at the PT Sports Cars open day and he recommended this: http://www.aim-sportline.com/eng/products-car/solo/index.htm No first-hand experience on my part, I'm afraid!
  7. I just got a call to say I've got a place (S5), so they're working their way through the reserve list pretty quickly!
  8. 1st June and S5 and that was one of only 2 events I'm likely to make this year
  9. Hi Mark, That's very considerate, thank you. The photographer's name is Mike Jones and he's very happy for you to download the photos and use on Facebook etc. Cheers, Ian.
  10. Thanks to Derek for organising a massively useful and thoroughly enjoyable day at Curborough. Such a shame that you couldn't participate. Also thanks to Rob and Richard for all of their invaluable advice. After a couple of laps in my passenger seat Mike opted to spend the rest of the day taking photos which he's uploaded here: https://onedrive.live.com/?id=3AE39B80D0CD7CB8%211090&cid=3AE39B80D0CD7CB8 Hi res versions of specific photos are also available on request - just PM me me and I'll put you in touch with Mike...

    First Race

Wow, that looked exciting! Nice one, Shaun
  12. That would be us Eurotunnel queue was a bit of a nightmare on the way back! Ian & Debbie.
  13. I went for one of these and mounted it on the windscreen wiper motor bracket on the passenger side: http://www.elise-shop.com/sparco-fireater-fire-extinguisher-elise-exige-vx220-p-344.html I read reviews/watched videos suggesting it was effective and didn't leave any mess - no direct personal experience (I'm pleased to report)! Plus it's light, small and not too expensive.

    Curborough Videos

Thanks to all who provided invaluable advice and encouragement to get me to and through my first ever sprint. What a fantastic day with fantastic people. I think I may be hooked already... Special congratulations to Matthew - a very worthy Novice winner plus your telemetry looks very cool! Here's my attempt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWnRq6p7aKE There does seem to be a rather a lot of steering input going on! I'm thinking the double-apex line through Fradley might be worth a try and I definitely braked too early for Flagpole. Any other advice gratefully received...
  15. I had spotted the FIA approved 32mm stuff Shaun, but the cost did put me off a bit! Alan and Chris' comments helped me make up my mind to give the Longacre 180 a punt. I've offered it up and it looks like a pretty good fit so next job is to get busy with the tie wraps and gaffa tape...
  16. Sorry, I should have been clearer. My hesitation was as to whether the Longacre 180 padding would fit an SLR cage with 32mm tubes. My cage does have the manufacturer's homologaton sticker on it.
  17. Thanks, Chris - that's very useful. The Longacre 180 paddding looks like it would be a good bet for my intended use too. My only hesitation is that it stipulates a minimum tube diameter of 1 3/8" (35mm) and the SLR cage has 32mm tubes. Are you running a cage or the FIA rollbar with the larger (38mm?) diameter tubes?
  18. Sorry, another question - on car prep this time. The Blue Book says that rollbar padding is recommended for all tubes within 150mm on the vehicle occupant's head. I was just wondering what people's practical experience was with scrutineers for SLR cages. Do they suggest/insist on rollbar padding and if so, fire retardant or FIA approved? From the photos I've seen, it looks like many competitors run with SLR cages and no padding. Thanks in advance, Ian.
  19. After being suitably inspired by the excellent Introduction to Sprinting day I'm working through my shopping/modifications list while my licence application is being processed by the MSA . I know I'm going to need a new helmet but I think my old race suit and gloves will be OK (FIA 8856-2000). However, before I take a trip to GPR/DT/Merlin etc I would be grateful if somebody could cast their eye over the attached picture to confirm these FIA approval stamps look acceptable despite their obvious age (2004). I couldn't see anything in the blue book to suggest that age would be a problem and they are in good condition. Many thanks, Ian.
  20. @John If I had to guess then I'd say it looks like they have been machined from the back, but stopping short of the front which leaves a lip with a smaller diameter hole into which the centre cap fits. If that's the case then the centre cap hole (which the cone centres on) will be cast which ties up with your prediction.
  21. Sorry - my earlier post should have referred to "8-spokes" rather than "Apollo" wheels. Now corrected above. The symptoms still sound similar, though.
  22. Strictly speaking I'm not 100% sure mine are actually "machined" either. They are black 13x6". Every time they have been balanced on the centre cone the car has been practically unusable because of vibration. Everytime they have been balanced on a stud plate they have been fine. That's with 3 different sets of A048Rs and the valves/overlap correctly aligned by Adams and Page.
  23. The centre holes in my 8-spokes [corrected wheel type] aren't machined centrally. So when they were balanced using a cone through the centre hole they felt horrible on the car. They were re-checked using a stud plate which revealed a significant imbalance. They were then re-balanced on the stud-plate and now feel fine on the car.
  24. I'd like to add my heartfelt thanks to all who provided their time and expertise to organise such a fantastically enjoyable and informative day. I'm already working my way through a list of things to buy and jobs to do with the goal of making at least one of the Curborough sprints this year. Special thanks to Shaun for the demo ride which was astonishingly quick even in slippery conditions and confirmed the steepness of my learning curve just in case I was in any doubt before!
