    Loton Thank You

A very big thank you to everybody that offered advice, support and kind words after our incident at the weekend. Debbie is fine and just has a slightly stiff thumb/wrist. The car is booked in for a visit to Arch at the end of this month, so we still hope to make Curborough. Before I start shopping at www.easycomposites.co.uk, does anybody have a recommendation for a professional carbon fibre repairer that would make a neater job of things than I'm likely to? The nosecone and wing look salvageable.
  2. The can on the 4" silencer is 56cm long and it's 77.5cm from the end of the inlet pipe to the end of the can.
  3. Hi Andrew, I've got a couple of options for you, both from a 1997 1.6K Superlight with a long primary 4-1 race system. 1) Carbon Components Silencer The carbon sleeve is damaged (both on the side and underneath) and needs replacing. The head of at least one of the caphead screws has been ground flat and there is a slight flat on the end of the exit pipe where it has grounded. I can send more photos if this would be of interest. This was a lot quieter than option 2) but if you get a new sleeve the I guess you could decide how much packing to use and/or get an internal sleeve to cover some of the the inner perforated tube. 2) Original 4" Caterham Silencer With Heat Shield This is undamaged, but 23+ years / 40K+ miles old and non-repackable so it is loud i.e. has failed drive-by at Bedford and Donington trackdays and a 105dBA static test at Goodwood. It does sound great on a K Series, though. I'd only want to sell this as part of a complete system with the 4-1 race primaries which would make it the more expensive option, especially as I'm guessing you don't need the other bits! I've PMd you as well - happy to discuss further.
  4. I'll take the crank, please. Will PM you to confirm details.
  5. I've recently been through the MOT process with a 1997 1.6K SS (no cat) at a friendly garage which didn't have any experience of kit cars. My car has a C, R6 and U in the relevant positions of the VIN so only requires a visual smoke test. However, the initial menu presented on the emissions test machine is a year selection which they have to make manually. I can't remember all the options, but mine fell into the 1996-2002 category. From that point onwards there is no way the car is going to pass because the machine is testing to a level which needs a CAT. The tester was very reluctant to refer to any manuals which might dictate a different procedure, even though I produced the relevant page from the same PDF you linked to in post #1). In the end I found this link https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/8-nuisance#section-8-2-1 and got acceptance that a pre '75 test was correct: In your case, I think this section applies in conjunction with the letter suggested by the link in post #2: Good luck! I can't help thinking it shouldn't be this hard!
  6. 4x Yokohama A048R 185x60R13 Tyres. £100 ONO. Collection only from near High Wycombe. These are 2014 and E marked i.e. road legal. 2 are soft (fronts) and 2 are medium (rears). All have around 4mm tread and have done limited road miles. Only removed because I needed List 1A tyres for the Club Sprint Championship and got bitten by the bug so am unlikely to get an opportunity to use these again!

    Wanted: doors

Hi Andy, I have a pair of Caterham S3 doors from a '97 Superlight complete with mirrors. They're in good condition for their age (I've been running an aeroscreen for the last 10+ years). How does £100 collected from near High Wycombe sound? I'm afraid I don't have any suitable packaging to post them.
  8. Many thanks to Chris for all your hard work and encouragement. I don't think Debbie would have plucked up the courage to give sprinting a try without all of your advice and positivity. Great to hear Graham Paul and Alan have taken up the reins. I'm sure you'll let us know if there's anything we can do to make your lives easier. Looking forward to seeing everybody on a track somewhere at some point in the future! Ian & Debbie
  9. Hi Chris, Thanks for the clarification and reassurance. The new regulations definitely simplify things. They should also make it easier to keep older cars competing in Class 2 as OEM parts get harder to source.
  10. Thanks, Chris. If I'm reading the new regulations correctly, it looks like anything goes for a 1.6 K Series engine in 2020, as long as the output is no more than 155 BHP? I was just wondering about the likelihood of the previous ECU, throttle body, head, valve etc restrictions being re-introduced? Or does your crystal ball suggest the 1.6 K Series engine specification used to achieve 155 BHP will remain open for the foreseeable future? Happy New Year to All!

Hi Roger, Thanks for pointing that out - I obviously haven't got the hang of this yet! We'll definitely try to get there early and bring a bike. See you there. Ian & Deb.
