  1. I have read about these screws which sit underneath the white caps on each barrel and am wondering..... If they let air in from a source other than the main trumpet, how can you know how much of an effect you are having on the air flow into that cylinder, by tweaking the screws, if you are using a meter which sits on the main trumpet? Or can only only measure the ´bypass-included´ airflow by using one of the meters which reads from behind the butterflies? If that has made any sense, I will be impressed An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows. Dwight D. Eisenhower
  2. Quick question - I have had my cam covers off for a couple of days now (preparing the cover took longer than expected), protecting the naked cams/head with a placcy bag. Is this OK or can this level of exposure do anything dodgy? Cheers! An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows. Dwight D. Eisenhower

  4. Another vote for Belgom - works great!
  5. I'm about to re-paint my 2 cam covers and was wondering if anyone has done this before recommends any particular type of spray paint which will tolerate the heat? The cam covers are made of alloy. Not sure if I need to apply a primer as well? Cheers!
  6. Be careful not to grind the edges off if you use a screwdriver (it just happened to be the only thing in my toolbox which fitted snugly into the mirror!).
  7. I haven't been able to find anything which fits it either! None of my hex keys came anywhere close! I got pi$$ed off and got it as tight as possible with a screwdriver and it seems to be OK like this.
  8. Cheers lads - I managed to do it with a standard 13mm ring spanner in the end, with a bit of contortion. Will definitely try your 'sawn-off spanner' trick when I'm putting them back on though, Matt!
  9. For those people removing the carbs from the manifold (rather than the entire manifold-carb assembly), are you undoing the lower manifold studs with the car on the ground or with the front of the car raised? I am attempting this with the car on the ground and a 13mm spanner, as I can't seem to get the socket to fit onto the nyloc nut Proving very difficult! Cheers!

  11. I can see what you mean, Asklepios, but it's the fact that it only happens (to such an exaggerated extent) on one of the 4 barrels which concerns me. Not knowing the 12-year history of these carbs, I would feel better if I replaced the misabs and the brass cup bobbins anyway - they look worse-for-wear. I have started the infamous task of removing the carbs from the manifold and have left the garage for Blatchat, where I hope to find out the best way to remove the 2 lower-inside nyloc nuts which hold the carbs to the manifold. Is it better to lift the car onto axle stands/ramps and undo from underneath the car? With the car on the ground, it's difficult enough just to get my arms under the carbs, let alone a spanner! Edit: with some contortion and a 13mm ring spanner they are now off! Thanks. Edited by - Ferrino on 23 Sep 2003 00:26:42
  12. I haven't moved the carb containing the suspect barrel vertically - just pushing it into the manifold (ie. horizontally) gives the RPM increase, so I don't think I am moving the linkage at all. Am hoping to source the replacement misabs and rubber bobbins from a place called NE Motors in Somerset tomorrow..... Edit: Found a decent online retailer of Weber bits and bought it from them instead. These boys. Thanks Edited by - Ferrino on 22 Sep 2003 16:16:03 Edited by - Ferrino on 22 Sep 2003 16:16:21
  13. [thread hijack] And if anyone's got a nifty way of tarting up the gauge bezels, please let me know! [/thread hijack]
  14. Thanks a lot for the replies! Where is the best place to source bits like manifold gaskets and the rubber bobbins that go in between the brass cups?
  15. I was just balancing my twin Weber 45 DCOEs with a Weber synchrometer gizmo when I noticed that pushing it onto one of the trumpets raised the RPM quite noticeably. I checked the carb-to-maifold O-rings for any leaks by squirting WD40 over each and listening out for a RPM rise, but nothing. I then visited the nuts which tighten the carbs to the manifold. When I tightened the nut on the suspect cylinder, the RPM rose quite dramatically - well, it jumped from 1,000 RPM to about 2,500 RPM. Is this to be expected? All of the nuts securing the carbs to the manifold were VERY easy to tighten. Are there any tips on how tight to have the carbs on the manifold? All the brass cups seem to be more or less touching or 1mm apart - are there washers inside these that need replacing? Many thanks!
  16. Cheers Mark - have sent some details to Chris Wheeler...... Any other recomendations?
  17. I am hoping to go for this option along with new front dampers in the Winter, so it would be nice to hear from others too.......
  18. My Seven has a bespoke 4-1 manifold and silencer and I am looking to replace the silencer component, however I can't imagine that there is going to be an off-the-shelf silencer which will fit, so I am wondering which places to contact, who can supply and fit the new silencer? The 4-1 collector is welded to the silencer - can this be chopped off and re-used on the new silencer or does a new collector have to be fabricated? Also, how much I am looking to pay for a new s/steel silencer + fitting? Cheers
  19. Have half-heartedly had a go at prying them off, but bottled it after memories of a previous dash-destroying moment in the tin-top. Has anyone removed/replaced bezels before? An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows. Dwight D. Eisenhower
  20. Just wondering if it is possible to buy & replace the bezels/windows for the guages on my Seven's dash? After 14 years they are looking a bit nasty. Cheers 😬 An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows. Dwight D. Eisenhower

  24. I think the VDO angle drive has just popped off my gearbox too - it's still attached to the box but it's really wobbly. Can it be tightened to the box from the little hole in the side of the footwell? It's not obvious how it is secured to the box - does it just screw in? Cheers. 25. It might be a misfire in one or more cylinders. Check that all of your ignition leads are all secured firmly - they can sometimes 'pop off' the plugs or dizzy over time.
