  1. A lorry reversed into my Seven this morning - the council's recycling lorry first thing this a.m., (I suspect). Mud and tyre marks at the very topof the wheel arch. Ripped the new cover (3 days old) and bashed the gel coat on one of the rear wing edges. Great. Of course, no message. I'm sure we have all suffered from similarly lazy, selfish, lowlife, dank tufts of recto-pubic hair that refuse to pay for Parking By Braille. Luckily no other damage - it rather gives me a medium term excuse to fit new wings. But as I am about to move house and am therefore relatively broke, can anyone give me any guidance on where to source the gel coat for nthe standard green GRP wing - as supplied by Caterham. 1990 Supersprint, BTW, and FWIW. And I know. There's worse things happen at sea.
  2. ...replacing my rather old and tatty job on my live axle. Can I use the old poppers, or will I need to drill new holes in the chassis?
  3. Sorted. Thanks everyone! Loose connection toi starter motor (perhaps) AND I hit it with an 'ammer. AND I should make it for the second race.... j
  4. Yeah - I had the problem yesterday. Flatlining for several efforts, then it suddenly came to life. I'll tighten my nuts.....
  5. Am I missing the bleedin' obvious? Battery new. (2 weeks old). But the starter motor not even turning. I haven't tinkered with any wires (although I have checked for loose connections). The only things I can think of are: starter motor dead - but it doesn't even click (car sits around all week - could it have siezed up? I will bash with a hammer in a jiffy) Or there is an immobiliser problem - I have an oblong key I stick in the dashboard. In wouldn't mind save it means I have missed a sailing race as Mrs needs her car.... ☹️

Simon Bell - it is beholden upon me at this juncture to confess my intrigue as to an"unpanted" Caterham kit. (We're more pedantic from Soyth Doyn) I'll get my coat
  7. Attic clearout: the original doors (with mirrors), roof and heated windscreen from a 1990 live axle long cockpit. The windscreen has an ali surround, but the glass looks like it has been machine-gunned. I long ago went to aeroscreens. Also a holed crossflow sump, mendable/weldable. All available separately (offers, please), or the lot for 125 squid. Can be collected from North London (near Ratrace) or I can take to Central London. 07780 663108 Edited by - Julian Bradley on 5 Dec 2004 16:24:20
  8. Thanks Oliver. By "adjusting", the "quite delicate" mechanism, do you mean "gently 'itting it with an 'ammer"? I'll assume you're not being euphemistic and be gentle! In any event, I shall spin it, see if it sticks...bend and lubricate as applicable. Ooh err. Am getting lubricious. ...when it has stopped raining - it lives under a cover.
  9. Thanks! I'll have a wee look - the front has been off lately chez Ratrace - I'll check all is as it should be!
  10. I use F1 racetec wings mirrors (all the chrome jobs were too big and therefore made the car look, well, jug-eared), but the centre mounting is a reproduction chrome Jaguar XK120 thang, with adjustible height. Although it looks like a week shaving mirror, is is actually quite effective - it certainly doesn't obstruct one's view and it is shiney, so compliments Brooklands, its mounting strip, the headlamps and so on. Mind you use stainless steel, domed head bolts, countersunk. Got mine from a yacht chandler. The centre mirror, ISTR, came from Europa spares via the internet (google it - a good site. I got my Mr Toad/Biggles goggles from the same site) Having said all that Richard in France's carbon jobs look GVFM
  11. ....and whirring...just now, in traffic jam outside Brent Cross. Horrible noise, and I could feel the vibration all the way through the steering wheel. As I got going quite soon the engine cooled fairly rapidly anyway. Everything alse just dandy, making all those boomy, vroomy, snap, crackle and pop noises you expect. Am a wee bit of a numpty thus - fan belt? I have just recharged the battery - but I can't see how that can put the kaybosh on things. And as I'll probably have to take the nosecone off, how do you pronounce "Dzuz"? And why do people spend wet Sunday afternoons in Brent Cross? Don't they realise "The Battle of Britain" is on telly at 3.30?
  12. On the subject of K & N air filters, how often (if ever) should you clean them?
