  1. Nig. I'd love to change the ECU but have spent a fortune on gizmos since Jan (when I bought the car - dials, autocom, bullet cam, DL1 logger, aces sureshift and the list goes on - it's all blatchat's fault, but the reason I bought an 'old' SLR rather than a new, 'finished' R400) and my wife is getting a little suspicious of parcels turning up every 3 days! I was also going to spend the cica £1.3k on a superlight roll cage next week. I'd seen your posts about engine mods before and had begun my list but wasn't expecting it so soon! g Superlight R #41
  2. V7 (don't know your real name!). Thanks for the offer. I'll give the guys a few more days and then we will see. I have an RMA day booked at Brands GP in June and I am not going to miss that! Thanks again, g Superlight R #41
  3. OK, so we have been trying to get the emissions down on my standard SLR (swan neck TBs) for over a week now. The following has been tried: lambda probe change, moved temp sensor to trick ECU into thinking the engine running too hot (leans up mixture?)(I think this is what was done), tried a different SLR MEMS, and everything seems to be running as it should. Garage is getting same readings on their machine that the MOT station is, so there is consistency. Caterham seem to be not a lot of help. We think the emissions test has got harder recently but surely if I have a problem with a standard car, others will too. I really think it will be going a bit far to have to upgrde the ECU just to get through a bl*&dy MOT Running out of ideas... g Superlight R #41
  4. yeah you are of course correct, I will need a new engine loom for the MBE. However it will plug into my DL1 logger! Superlight R #41
  5. Paul, I would be interested in the part number from Maplin? Superlight R #41
  6. I had heard the the Emerald had less features than the MBE. Is one system more accessible than the other? Superlight R #41
  7. Some help on this would be appreciated. I have read many threads on the subject but could not find a straight comparison of these 2 solutions. (I had these at the top of my shopping list but if there any other thoughts please shout!) It would be good to see the pros and cons of each, or just others experiences that I could collate. E.g. on subjects such as total cost of ownership (if you upgrade the ECU, gotta go for this that and the other etc.) For reference, I have a '98 SLR with no engine mods and swan neck TBs, running a 4-2-1 into a Raceco can. Any help appreciated. gavin Superlight R #41
  8. Myles - the SPA is mounted with 3M Dual Lock (isn't everything ) flat on the scuttle, right next to the Sureshift. No bracket required. Superlight R #41
  9. Just to add my 2 pence worth, I have a SPA digitial speedo, which is back lit, sits on the scuttle, has a tiny magnet for the front wheel, and is easy to use with a dedicated control button that is separate from the unit. I think I have debated the cost issue with Miles before of the SPA solution, but I agree with him that you really do need a back light and scuttle mounting is the way to go. g Superlight R #41
  10. Ratrace are saying, and I think this is clearly the case with my tin top, that the MOT guy needs a print out from the machine with a pass on it and that is that. Sounds as thought things may have become stricter this year, though I am not so sure. Trouble is that I have a standard ECU (MEMS) and Rob can't tinker with it. I was planning an ECU upgrade at some point but since I bought the car in Jan I haven't stopped spending on it and I want to put an SLR cage on next week, a pricey job but safety first and all that. So the ECU was down the priority list. I am going to post separatley re. the Emerald vs MBE debate to get an up to date view from the team...but if there are any views here they would be welcome. (p.s. don't live anywhere near Emerald so I would not want to be dependent on them, if that is the case re. rolling road tinkering.) g Superlight R #41
  11. Mark I am a Ratrace man! Rob's on it! Steve's on it! and Mark is away! They are having another go today - 3rd time lucky. g Superlight R #41
  12. Hmmm, it was the garage that took it down to get it tested, but the MOT station is just over the road so the cat would be nowhere near warm. Might be it - does this make that much difference? They tried a loaner ECU but the engine was having none of it and wouldn't start. They are going to try a new lamda probe tomorrow. Swan neck TB's (oldie stylie!) The failure was emissions "just over what was needed". g Superlight R #41
  13. 1998 SLR, VHPD, standard engine and ECU. Failed its emissions with a CAT on (I don't know which/spec). Not sure what else to try. 2nd fail in 2 days. gavin Superlight R #41
  14. Slider I have an SLR with swan neck TB's. Raceco has worked a treat but I need to get a loaner Cat to get through the MoT. The induction I sorted by putting a whole bunch of acoustic foam under the bonnet - stops it reverberating like a tin can. Do a search for noise killers on google. It's £40 for a 1x2 metre piece but well worth it. My only worry no is whether the silver backed foam will make the engine bay too hot. But then again I am not sure what will melt? gavin Superlight R #41
  15. Does anyone know the rough cost of these items? thanks Superlight R #41

I have searched the threads but cannot find an answer to this one. If I hard wire the RF concepts cam in, is it adviseable to use a regulator or would the protection offered by an in-line fuse be enough? If so what fuse? thanks Superlight R #41
  19. I have a clarke 2 ton trolley jack. Could someone let me know where the jacking points are? thanks g Superlight R #41

    DL1 setup

Has anyone fitted one of these dataloggers (or a DL90) for that matter to their car? If so, how did you go about wiring into revs, temps and other data points? many thanks Superlight R #41
  21. I find pushing clutch pedal down sorts it. My elise used to do the same. Superlight R #41
  22. MJ, sounds just like my heath robinson catch tank affair - it does this. I am buying a Mocal although others think this is a bit OTT. Superlight R #41
  23. Shaun, great help, just what I needed. I have no.2 by the sounds of it (it is not the original SLR roll bar I know that much). Is no. 5 as tall as no. 4? (I think no.4 is the one that looks as though it is leaning forward a fair bit, when viewed from the side.) thanks gavin Superlight R #41
  24. Hmmm...I am just a bit confused. I think I have a superlight roll bar (thick main bar with 2 struts) but it seems a bit low. My helmet sticks above it a bit (I am only 5' 10"). gavin Superlight R #41
  25. Haven't bought it yet. I have a plastic bottle at the moment, but with the heat and movement on Sat at Bedford I had oil all over the driver's footwell. Had enough of (my own) botch jobs and thought I would do it properly for once. g Superlight R #41
