  1. I know the new powder coating is much better (or so everyone tells me) but would an additional layer of car paint, add additional protection or will it chip too easily 🤔 Richard in France Awaiting chassis to start building my Duratec 7 😬
  2. Saab 95 estate, left hand drive, first reg Oct 99, brought from main dealer in France. French registered but could be changed. Full service history, 75,000 KM. 3. Tony, I have been trying to follow the subject from the beginning and have waited for someone else to ask the stupid question but can't wait any longer I have looked at the american site but can't see what is so special 🤔 Why not just use the Caterham toogle switch and what exactly are these covers? I am intending to modify my dash after SVA, getting rid of those square plastic switches from the 70's and the large dash lights. So should I get these switches or not Sorry to be thick ❗ Richard in France Awaiting chassis to start building my Duratec 7 😬
  4. Do not use flushing fluid on a hydraulic valve engine ☹️ My friend had his Masda engine messed up by a garage because of this. Can't remember why but the main agent explained never use flushing fluids on hydraulic valve engines, don't take the risk. Richard in France Awaiting chassis to start building my Duratec 7 😬

    Car wanted

Hi Si, I have a 1.6K series, flared wings, yellow, 9200 miles, 1997 in near concours condition. Never raced and truely cared for, dry use only. I have ordered a new starter kit to build a special duratec se7en. Has not been advertised as not in a rush yet as kit does not arrive until Feb. Price £12500 no offers as worth more, for a simple sale without advertising. Only problem is car is in France at the moment but may bring it back at xmas by trailer if anyone is serious. Otherwise perhaps meet part way in France. I am in Hastings this week and have photos. Hope to make it to the Kent club meet on Thursday. If you want full spec let me know. e-mail: easiclad@aol.com mobile: 07711701011
  11. Anyone know the phone number for K+N wheel manufacturer? Thanks in advance Richard in France
  12. WARNING RUBBERCOAT smells for years!!!!! The garage will also smell everytime you put your car in. Choose another alternative. I will not be using it again. You have been warned!

    Seven wanted

Hi Peter, I shall be building a new se7en very shortly and hence will be selling my totally original 1997 1.6 K in yellow that is in really beautiful condition throughout. I want what I paid for it £12,500 and I thought it was and know it is worth more due to the condition. I looked at many and when I found this one I was unsure as it was too good but after having it checked out and owning it for 14 months it is completely genuin. I know its a bit more than you have but it is a 1.6. Other problem is it has proper wings!!!!! Much beter than cycle wings!!!! Join the clamshell club. Milage is just over 9000 miles. Leather seats, full weather gear...... If your interested I will give you further info
  14. Thanks Peter, That was a very clear explaination. Seems I will not need one on my next car as it will be dry sump. Off the subject, you replied to me the other week saying that the powder coating on the chassis and panels is now much improved. I would like to have a chat sometime if it was possible. 15. Sorry to ask this question but what exactly is an Apollo tank and when should one fit one? Is there any advantage for road use and the occassional track day? Thanks in advance
  16. Just looked at this web site. Very cheap compared to what Raceline wanted for a standard engine without doing any work to it. Will wait to see what Ministers give as a price first as they are developing it especially for the se7en, which means I will know exactly what is required to get it to fit and run properly. If price too high you know where I shall be off to quickly. Interested in everyones comments after the festival. Richard in France
  17. Stupid me. Did not think, too easy, thought it would be more difficult to work out what AW stood for. 😳
  18. Hi Paul, I was told that further development was on hold until they had the 3 engines mentioned up and running and some sales. They have kept it to just 3 as the other possibilities were endless and they wanted to start with a limited range. I think that they can offer anyone further tuning but not at a standard price. Richard in France (back on great roads again-no traffic!!!!)
  19. Can someone tell me who AW is? May be interested in CF wings next year. Thanks, richard in france
  20. Hello all, thought you may like to look forward to this: Visited Minister to discuss the possibility of a Duratec engine for a new car. After 14 months of waiting for Raceline to give me some prices and get the parts available I am fed up with waiting. Minister have a development engine that has done extensive bench testing and they have installed it into a R500. Although still using many development parts it looks as if this is going to be a great bit of kit. It will be on show at the weekend Caterham festival and they hope to have the full engine and fitting kit on offer early next year. Price guide is being put together and will be available in a few weeks although some parts may change slightly during final development. Offered in either 2 lt or 2.3 lt, the range between the two sizes will be a conservative195 bhp with 165 torque, 215 bhp with 190 torque and 225 bhp with 200 torque. Using roller barrel throttle bodies, lighter flywheel, competition clutch, hydraulic clutch, racing Caterham radiator, and as many other tried and tested parts that have been used by Caterham. Their aim is to supply all the parts as a complete package. A lot of thought has gone into their development including easy to bleed clutch and cooling system. Further tuning will be possible but their current development is to get available the 3 mentioned above to recoup some of their investment. The aim with the 230 bhp fitted into the R500 is to offer at least the same performance but probably better at a lower price. Doesn't sound bad, shame my budget won't go that far! ☹️ Richard in france (uk today) Waiting patiently for deciding on new car and finding the extra money
  21. Thanks for the various info. Seems I am not alone. Just checked the instruments, seems all needed tightening, can't see or feel anything else out of place. Shall buy more fuses and keep figers crossed. Shall not try bigger fuse although I too have been tempted!!!! Well in France we stay lighter 1 hour longer than the UK so not a problem yet. Any other ideas? Thanks, Richard in France
  22. Anyone know what could cause the fuse to keep going that is for the right side side light and the dash board. Does not always blow fuse when I turn the lights. Thanks in advance Richard in France
  23. In theory you can keep a car on an anual green card if you live in France and keep your UK driving licience and if stopped just say you are still a UK resident as well as living in France. Legally you should register after so many months, but many don't. Hugh Dent registered his 7 car (some years old) and had many delays and difficulties. We registered a Saab and it was just formality and about 6 months, plus change the lights. Certificate of conformity was just a 2 page photo copy that cost £100 from Saab France. I am dealing with an unfair EC problem for working in Belgium at the moment and have found the right department for taking action and resolving the issue. I shall be discussing the se7en question with them soon as well. Next problem is also if the car is totally standard. I gather from Caterham that very few extras are passible in France. One other point is all new cars must have flaired wings so great news for the Clam shell club (I was first French member). Still want to find out if a UK registered car MUST be accepted by the French. We have found that different English have had more problems than others registering a car in France just because they are in a different department. Elmo ours is 49 near to Angers. Keep in touch Richard in France e-mail: sales@goodville-engineering.com
  24. Can't really help at the moment except to give you the following info. I am still trying to solve the problem for a new car. Caterham's can't be registered in France after Oct2003. Main agent will have to stop unless a law is changed. It is really for the big manufacturers but the French are saying all cars must conform. Caterham say a limited range will pass all tests except the crash tests and are continueing talking to the officials. France produce many cars that I doubt would conform but I think as they are French that is different! Of course!!! Registering an old model is possible with a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer. At what age or variation it stops I do not know. There is much talk in the press re the situation at the moment. One interesting factor is other EU countries accept Caterhams and I gather that if for instance it was German registered then the French will have to accept registering it! Send me your e-mail address and if I find a solution I will let you know. At present I have an English 7 with an yearly green card. Richard in france
