  1. Hi Ken Is it worth the hassle? I am re-building my brothers 1700 Xflow and the crank was damaged after a bearing gave out. I bought a second hand, tuffrided crankshaft for 50 quid and I now just need to get it polished and balanced with the fly wheel. I THINK to continue to use the crank you have you would need to get it tested for cracks both before you attempt to straighten it and after you have done so as the cast iron for the crossflow cranks is particularly prone to this. 2. Just fitted a Big Red and there is a thread I started a few days ago on the topic. With respect to access, I took the steering wheel off and the whole ignition bit off the steering column. It was then very easy to get the wires connected. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  3. I did hear reports that the solenoid on the starter motor is very sensitive to heat. Can you detect if the starter is actually engaging with the fly-wheel? Even after dismantling my starter motor and cleaning it and the solenoid I still have some starting issues, including the problem you mention and you can feel when the bendix is engaging the fly-wheel and when the starter motor just spins. I think I am going to try some heat protection for the starter or perhaps consider wrapping the exhaust. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  4. Thanks for all the good advice. I am going to try and tackle the installation if I can get the bits I need. Tony, What amp rating ar the spade connecters you refer to in you earlier posts? Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  5. Further investigation is obviously required. What are the issues for me using a higher ampage wire than I may need? Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  6. I have been reading some of the threads re installing a push start and it has raised a few questions: My push start has four terminals on the back, most of the threads I have been reading SEEM to indicate two terminals on the back of the button. Am I wrong or am I wrong? The threads also say to use fairly high ampage connectors but the connectors on the back of the push start are quite small and the only female connectors I can find that would fit are 2amp. Can anyone just confirm whether I am worrying over nothing or not. I am always a bit twitchy when it comes to electrics. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  7. Hi Phil Thanks for the info. What size fuse did you use for the pump? Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  8. I am intending on installing an electric fuel pump with inline fuel filter and remote pressure regulator at the same time as a starter button to my 1600 xflow. I have already read some of the threads on both subjects but I was wondering if anyone had any schematics for the wiring, particularly for the fuel pump as I believe I need to run it from the ignition via a fuse. Any help gratefully accepted Ade Ray Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  9. OOOPS Missed the second question Burton Freestyle bindings have two ratchet straps per foot with a quick release lever for each. I tried a set of step in bindings and personally I did not find I had as much control although a lighter chap than me may say different. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  10. Hi Al The 58 refers to the board size. The boots are a size 10 though they would also fit a size 9. The board size was suitable for my size (6'2) but would be fine for a slightly smaller height (5'10). Saying that, a lot of board riders use varying board lengths depending on what they want to use them for. Hope this info is OK Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  11. Must go as cluttering shed. Burton 'Motion' board size 58, Burton 'Freestyle' bindings, Northwave boots with removable inserts. All are in good condition with a total of 9 hours on the snow. Everything is very clean and tidy with no rust or damage. Photos can be sent to anyone interested. £100 plus delivery (home is Rugby) Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  12. Whats your favourite 'nearly' aircraft, ie something that got to prototype stage and then got axed due to change in government or budget requirements. Whatever happened to the Osprey tilt rotor the americans were going to produce for the marines? Also, the TSR2 that got cancelled at the flying prototype stage was a very fine aircraft (apart from the undercarriage hydraulics). Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  13. I'm not sure that the B17 photo is a fake. Is it my imagination or has the airframe been heavily modified with a shorter fuselage? If they can get the weight down then it could fly on one big turbo prop. The F111 never did it for me at air displays although I never saw it do a fuel dump. I am suprised that not much mention has been given to the Phantom or the F14 which were both ground breaking aircraft in their day Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent

  15. No no no no no no Best noise was definately the Lockheed Starfighter. I remember seeing it at Farnborough and Biggin Hill when I was a youngster when the noise restrictions were not as sever as nowadays and it was the best noise I had ever heard. I seem to remember that one of the Starfighters also did a fuel dump which was cool. I believe they have banned those aswell ! Ade 😬 Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  16. Hi JR Sorry for the delay, I have just been checking up on the polishing thing. Yes I would like to purchase, can you let me know what the delivery charges are likely to be and i will arrange payment. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent

Hi Keith Thanks for the reply, sorry I did not spot it until today. I shall measure the conrods tonight and let you know. Ade
  19. Hi Steve I shall be sending you the paperwork I have shortly. On inspection, what I seem to have is a detailed list of parts incorporated into the rebuild of Simons engine although the spec of certain items are not listed.I hope it is still of some use to you. I also have some installation and service notes that were provided by RK. Do you want those aswell. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  20. No Nuts With the exception of a couple of entries, it seems you like your aircraft on the large size which is very interesting in a Freudian sort of way. Just a little test: Which singer do you prefer - Kylie or Alison Moyet? Just curious. I think your inclusion of The Buccaneer is a sound choice as it was an excellent low level bomber with great stability. Eric, your aircraft knowledge is extensive but reading a slighly earlier post I have a query: I always thought that the problem with the navalised versions of the spitfire (Seafire) were their rather wimpy and narrow track undercarriage rather than their lack of performance. Both the vampire and the Seahawk (and the Scimitar) were pretty pants in the performance stakes and it was lucky that their main active engagement was the Suez Crisis and they did not have to fight anything decent on an air to air basis. As for spit performance, I think you are right that some Spitfires did near the mach boundary in power dives but even the clipped wing design would not have allowed it to exceed the sound barrier and stay in one piece. Even avant garde German designs of the time such as the ME262 with a relatively swept wing for the time had serious stability issues at the Mach threshold which resulted in the loss of many German pilots. 21. Steve YHM also I dont think that the lack of a dry sump will make any difference. All the bits at the bottom are pretty standard other than the tuffrided crank. I can only assume (but I dont know everything) that you will not achieve quite as much on the power output due to the larger quantity of oil in the sump. 22. I am currently rebuilding my brother's old Roger King 155BHP, dry sumped engine and I do have the spec sheet. if you email me your address I will post you a photocopy. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent

To go along with my need for a cast iron crank I was also wondering If someone has a spare xflow conrod - 2177EB, with a good history please. If you do I would be interested in purchasing the same. If I had a choice I would be looking for a conrod that had not much of the balancing pads ground off. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
  25. Hi all i'm still looking for that elusive crank. Hi JR, did you get those emails I sent you? Is your crank still available? Please let me know. Ade Make the world a better place, hug an estate agent
