  1. Hi guys Thanks for info and links. What sort of mileage do you do and how do the foam filters stand up to wear and tear? thanks Ade
  2. Hi manxseven One of the filters has developed a crack in the rubber that is threatening to go right through, the other one seems to have shrunk slightly. I am also not sure whether a foam type filter might be more suitable for the mileage I do. Ade
  3. My car is currently fitted with K&N filters. These are now due for a change and I am wondering if anyone uses anything else, eg Pipercross and if so what sort. The use of the car is frequent road use, the occasional trackday and possibly some sprinting. Many thanks Ade
  4. Hi cskip Thanks for your post. It turns ouit that NSB101 is no longer on Lucas's computer system. I remembered that someone had said to me that the starter was the same as that used on early sierra models and that was enough info for Lucas to find the right starter: Part No. LRS110 - £65.69 including VAT on an exchange basis. The starter was identical to the oe Magnetti Marelli unit that was fitted to my 1996 1600 Xflow save that it has a 'cold start' fitting on the solenoid which is just redundant. Just come back from my first blat in six months and I am a happy chappy! Ade
  5. Hi Ive got a pre-engaged starter motor that has given up the ghost on me and I want to replace it. There are no ident numbers on it and Caterham have not been able to give me a valid part number. So.. does anyone know the Lucas part number for for this little beastie! Many thanks Ade
  6. Hi Dave Sorry to take so long to reply. The rubber bushes for the engine mounts were brand new, as was the left-hand engine mount which I broke in a coming together with a road. The curved dry sump engine mount was off my brothers car when he changed to Zetec power and was in pristine condition (as his whole car is). I am a bit reluctant to fit 1.5cm of spacers and infact after looking I am not sure there is sufficient length in the bolt to accomplish that. The steering rack is Ok with it's current setting but I am reluctant to adjust any more. perhaps I should look at this in a different way, ie my carb filter set-up. Perhaps I should adjust the engine mount by a small amount and then fit filters that will not obstruct (or be obstructed) by the hood? Ade
  7. Jackal Have you been putting your wheels in the dishwaser? It's lucky my moniter auto protects against sudden brightness. Ade
  8. Nothing wrong with 13" Weller racing steel wheels. Cheap enough for us budget boys and you can paint em any colour you like! Ade
  9. Nic Iagree with Kevin. It's more the cost of replacement bits than anything else. I too have my brothers old 1700/155bhp engine that I am slowly accumulating the bits for but as you browse through the Burton brochure and find that a replacement crank is best part of £550 before you start thinking about double-dowling and tufriding it can get a bit depressing. The only way I can cheer myself up is thinking that it will be still a lot less than the 8K spent by my bro putting a 2 litre Zetec in his 7! Ade
  10. Thanks for the tip elie and oliver, I thought I had done with the engine mounts as I had already fitted it, removed it to fit the oil pump and fitted it again afterwards. It looks like it is coming off again, at least in part. I am slightly anxious as the addition of 1.5cm of spacers is going to bring the oil hose unions on the pump very close to the steering column and I have already adjusted that as much as I dare. Ade
  11. In the process of dry-sumping my xflow engine I of course changed the engine mount for the Caterham supplied part so that I had suitable clearance for the five port pump. The conversion has gone well until I came to put the hood back on the car and I have found that it does not fit as the carb filters seem lowe set than previously. So the first question is - does the new engine mount change the orientation of the engine(?) Ade
  12. I seem to remember that Bilbo had some very nice round mirrors from Lucas?? fitted to his 7. He did send me some photo's a while back and they looked good but I cant quite remember how they were fitted. Ade
  13. Burtons, Think Automotive and Pace Products all do catch tanks and all have web sites so you can do it over the phone or buy online. They come in all shapes and sizes and prices to match. If you want I have one of the old plastic bottles types you can have if you want as mine is now fitted with a 2 litre Mocal jobby. Ade
  14. Hi Guys Sorry I have been away from a computer for most of the day. My sender has '1-5' inscribed on the side so I am fairly certain that it is a 1-5 bar sender which in some respects make sense as I have a 5 bar guage! I have not been around to fit my newly acquired rocker gasket but I may have time to fit it later and carry out another static test tomorrow assuming I have fixed both the leaks. I have to say it felt very good to hear katies exhaust roaring around our cul-de-sac again, it's been peace and quiet for my neighbours since November so I am sure they will have been pleased to learn that Katie is getting back on form!!! Ade
  15. Hi All Started her up and everything seems good. Sat at steady 4 bar but I didnt keep her on for long as I spotted a bit of oil leaking from the rocker cover and some from one of the unions. The union is now sorted but I am going to change the rocker cover gasket. I shall do another static test on Friday and get her nicely warmed up. Many thanks Ade
  16. Thanks for the reply, I am not aware that my sender was faulty as it was the same one I had b4 the conversion and it was OK then. I wonder if the low reading is because the engine is just at cranking revs. As the pump is crank driven, simply cranking the engine with the plugs out would not give me much pressure? Ade
  17. I have just finnished plumbing up the dry sump system on my xflow and decided to carry out the oil pressure test. Took the plugs out, put a little oil in the top of the engine and the rest in the dry sump tank total used was about 5 litres. Initially on turning over the engine I got zero pressure but after a minute or so the needle moved up to and stayed at a constant 1 (my pressure guage is marked 0-5). This seems lower than it should be. Should I be expecting the usual figure of between 3 and 4? I checked for leaks and there are none. Oil seems to be moving through the system as when I took the dry sump cap off there was a remainder of oil dripping from the inlet pipe. Some advice would be very welcome ❗ Ade

    Not a 7....

Sure, it's a 1991 H reg. It's the booted version, in dark blue. Mileage is just under 143,00 miles. It has to go soon, we're a 4 car family at the moment!

    Not a 7....

Granada 2.0 Ghia automatic.... I sense you getting excited already! Not the prettiest in the world, but the car has been totally reliable during my ownership (over 2 years). In fact, last year in the height of summer we drove it fully laden 2,500 miles in 40C heat around France. The car comes with a tiny bit of MOT and has many receipts, including a brand new (not reconditioned) Ford gearbox, fitted in 2000. Recent purchases include 4 new tyres and a rear exhaust box. Make me a good offer & I'll get it re-MOT'd to take the worry out of it, or buy cheap & do it yourself! Call Ian on 024 7630 2015 or 07974 474597.
  21. This is so spooky, I was standing in the local supermarket talking to Peter Steer about this very thing. I have a 1600 Xflow with a metal plate in the engine bay that says stick Mobil 1 in the car. Peter told me to check the specification and get a matching oil. So the question is, what do you stick in a dry sumped xflow that is going to do the odd track day but plenty of road miles? Ade
  22. I know this sounds a bit off track compared to everyone else but have you checked that your engine mounts are OK? I only say this as the metallic rattle I suddenly developed on my car was cos my left-hand engine mount had cracked and had dropped my exhaust close to the bottom of the hole. This meant that when I applied revs, the exhaust would bounce of the aluminium skin and rattle. Again, this was only when revs were applied and not when idle or coasting! Ade
  23. The celulose thinners you can get from Halfords seems to do the trick but you need plenty of J cloths as they gunk up pretty quickly. Also remember to do it in a ventilated area! Ade
  24. Hi Peter many thanks for that. If you do have one I am sure we can come to an amicable arrangement! Ade
  25. Hi Peter Thanks for the info. I have just got off the phone from Burton Power who have stated that the pick up pipe is intended for a Titan pump even though it does not specify in the brochure. I am trying to contact someone at Pace but they are all on the factory floor at the moment. It seems likely I shall be returning the pipe to Burton! Ade
