  1. Jolly good, I'll put them down as sold and let you know when I'm next heading . Thanks, Adam
  2. Johnty, I've got one that I took off the back. Does £35 plus whatever it costs to get it to you sound fair 🤔 🤔 🤔 Let me know if you'd like to see some photographs. Cheers, Adam
  3. Dreamer, I stand to be corrected, but I'm pretty sure that the near-side wing will fit and that the off-side one won't (but since it's free, might as well give it a go ...). Hang on - I've just looked at the Caterham on-line parts catalogue and they only offer one rear wing per side so it looks like they will both fit. Hope that's some help, Adam
  4. Marcus, I might be able to help - see here - depending on how much interest there is, I'd consider splitting the wheels and tyres. Regards, Adam
  5. Pair of 7" chrome headlights, complete with innards. Clearly not immaculate, but I'd say one was in fair to good condition and the other not so fair - see here, here and here. £35 Four 6 x 14" KN alloy wheels with centre caps and 185/60 R14 A-O21R tyres with plenty of tread - a good 4 mm or so by my reckoning - see the picture. Wheels are from a De Dion seven (24 offset) and are free of scratches and dents; the only flaws are some slight bubbling of the lacquer in places on the inner circumference between the spokes (IYSWIM ). Pictures here, here and here. £250 SOLD Standard K series exhaust. It'd done about 7000 miles when removed. Pictures here and here. £110 SOLD Larger pictures are available if required. Offers invited. All prices exclude postage and packing, which will be at cost, or items can be collected or delivered via GONADS. I'm in Tunbridge Wells most of the time, in London (Old Street) once a week and in Bracknell once every couple of months. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Cheers, Adam 0781 007 3021 Links now fixed. Edited by - AdamQ on 7 Apr 2008 08:54:26 Edited by - AdamQ on 7 Apr 2008 11:07:22 Edited by - AdamQ on 23 Apr 2008 09:18:32
  6. Thanks Peter - I was tempted to cite weight-saving in response to sforshaw's question! Thanks for the advice re. the type of sealant - I'll see what I can find and will try to get my 🙆🏻 in gear this weekend. Pictures will then follow ... Cheers, Adam
  7. I just thought that it might give a slightly neater and more flush finish than the rubber stuff ... ...
  8. I was just wondering if anybody had (successfully) used bathroom-type sealant or something similar around the edges of the rear wing protectors as an alternative to the strips of rubber? Cheers, Adam
  9. Rich, I have an S3 K with a Powerspeed. How urgent is your need? I can take the measurements some time over the next few days (Saturday at the latest). Alternatively, given that we appear to be in the same town, you're welcome to pop over and see/measure for yourself - Blatmail me or drop me a line on 0781 0073021 (won't be able to answer for most of today I'm afraid). Cheers, Adam
  10. I did this at the weekend and found that winding some insulation tape tightly around everything from about an inch beyond the end of the plastic sleeve to about an inch above helped alot, as did the addition of some washing-up liquid as lubrication. After that it was just a question of shoving and twisting a bit occasionally. Adam
  11. GN07 VBP Spotted by SWMBO and relayed by phone: "Ooh, it's got a funny knob thing between the speedometer and the rev counter ... that's odd ... and it hasn't got a steering wheel either". Deafening sound of penny dropping! She said it looked very new and shiny - a hint that mine needs a clean perhaps. Regards, Adam
  12. ... here if anybody is interested. 1800 K series with Jenveys, Powerspeed exhaust, Emerald and ARK1320 cams; the head is standard. Torque looks good (to me anyway - I don't know much about these things), but the power was a little lower than expected, though, as somebody once said, it's all relative and from what I can gather I guess I could easily gain or lose 20 HP by going somewhere else next week. When all's said and done, it's a joy to drive (especially now I've pumped the tyres up to the right pressure) so I'm 😬
  13. Would like to claim it was me - car matches the description and Villa Golf is my second home for the evenings during summer - but alas not - I was working at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday and have witnesses! Regards, Adam
  14. Eh? Electrics 🤔 Fogged, baffled and bemused (and now a bit worried) - more info requested ❗ Adam
  15. That was me - on a quest for some burgundy-coloured raffia - don't ask! You're right about the wash, it's desperately in need of one but the last two times I've taken it to the nearest jet wash, it's been out of order. You've shamed me out of my laziness though and tonight without fail ... I'll even buy a bucket and sponge if necessary! Thanks for the 'spotted'! Hope you had a good weekend. Adam

    Maths

Thanks MTH. I've tried both the methods in the article, but with no success I'm afraid. I'm wondering if I have to wait for Windows to complete the indexing process before it will work - that would make sense to me. In the meantime, I'm trying out some freeware called File Hand Search - we'll see if that works. Apologies to all for going off at a tangent from the original post. Adam

    Maths

I agree about drawing a graph to get an initial estimate and then you can use Newton-Raphson to get a more accurate value for the real root. Re-arrange the equation to xxx + xx - 30 = 0 = f(x). Then f'(x) = 3xx + 2x and then you can use x(n+1) = x(n) - f(x(n))/f'(x(n)) to get successively closer approximations. Once you've got the real root, you can factorise to a linear and quadratic form and then calculate the complex roots. Or you can just use the Excel Goal seek function (which probably does something similar to the above anyway!). A far more taxing problem as an aside: does anybody know how to search for pdf files containg certain text in XP?? Regards, Adam

2.80712645078457 gives 30.0000000000 in Excel (so, allowing for the Microsoft fudge factor, that's probably about 28.4 ❗) Adam

Whahey ❗ - thanks Hoped I might get spotted on Saturday - I was on my way to Shillinglee for a free lunch (I know there's no such thing really!) given by the people who'll be providing the grub when I get married next year Beautiful weekend to be out and about during wasn't it? Adam
  20. ... in Tunbridge Wells near the Royal Wells hotel. I was in the BRG and yellow one heading towards the hospital. Adam
  21. ... near the Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells. I was in the BRG and yellow 7 heading towards the town centre. Adam
  22. Hi Chris, Thanks for the spotted - it was me and SWMBO on our way to Whitstable. I'm afraid the boot of the 7 now pongs a bit as a result of our purchases at the fish market there - well worth it though. Hope you had a good bank holiday weekend. Adam

    sump foam

I don't know about 10k miles, but I seem to have got away with driving for about 20 miles after the foam disintegrated. I saw the oil pressure drop to about 1 bar as I was accelerating up a slip road onto the M25. I immediately pulled onto the hard shoulder and checked the oil level and looked for leaks or an absent sump plug and that sort of thing. I restarted and pressure was constant at about 1 bar regardless of engine speed. As it wasn't in the red I (naively perhaps) continued to drive home, extremely gingerly. For information, the blocking of the pick-up pipe by the crispy seaweed causes a horrible asthmatic rasping wheezing noise. I did replace the foam, but will be taking it out at the next available opportunity (sooner rather than later given the comments at the start of this thread and my HGF in May). The car has done about 4500 miles since I replaced the foam. Adam
