  1. 1600 16 valve, Maroon, 3 door, 95000 miles, MoT to 24/01/2007. Plugs, oil filter, air filter and oil changed at 92000 miles. New front tyres, discs and pads in January 2006. Runs very well indeed. Slightly tatty and could do with a couple of hours of attention but basically sound. OIRO £395. Have I missed anything obvious 🤔 Adam 01892 516542 0781 007 3021 or Blatmail
  2. Thanks Mick - very grateful. Adam
  3. Thomas, as always Mr H did a grand job so if you do go down this route, he's your man. Just don't try and be helpful and take along your own Dremel - he takes the pi$$ out of its puniness beside his ~25 BHP die grinder 😬. As for the quality, I don't know what John thought, but it looked good to me: all the holes were in the right place and everything fitted (all we (well, John) had to do was drill another hole in the front mounting bracket). The finish looks impeccable. As for noise, I wouldn't have said there was much in it either way. The Powerspeed makes a slightly deeper, less tinny, noise. If anything, it's slightly quieter I'd say (all very subjective though). As for performance, it's made a noticeable difference. As somebody else posted a while back, the engine is more 'free' and much less asthmatic (remember though that I switched from the 4-1-inside-the-body exhaust). Previously, I got a shove in the back at about 4700 rpm and that's now less pronounced as there's more oomph lower down. FWIW, Adam
  4. My rev counter is being a bit unreliable at the moment - it doesn't work at all and then after a while it'll start working properly, then stop again, and so on. The connections going into the back of it seem fine and so, having searched Tech Talk, the next step would seem to be to check the earth. All the other gauges are working fine. All I need to know is where to check - does anybody know where the earth wire ends up? TIA, Adam

    Brake Pipe

He did the brake test before I noticed that the level of the fluid was slightly lower than it was when I checked it the other day and the brakes performed satisfactorily. I guess he appreciated the fact that it wasn't something that I was going to leave unfixed for long, which I'm obviously not - I've got tomorrow afternoon off and will fix it then. Adam

    Brake Pipe

Does anybody happen to know the length of the brake pipe that runs from the 3-way union on the rear 'axle' to the left-hand rear caliper? And also what the thread is of the two end fittings? The car is a 1999 De Dion with standard brakes. Had my MoT just now, noticed that the brake fluid level had dropped a tad since the other day and so took advantage of the MoT pit to investigate - the hand-brake cable has rubbed through the pipe slightly. My cunning plan to get a new MoT the day before fitting the Powerspeed exhaust has worked though - it passed 😬 Any help much appreciated. Adam Edited by - AdamQ on 27 Jul 2006 15:41:35
  7. Martin 😬 yup, even I recognised the tell-tale signs such as the creamy sludge spurting through the bonnet louvres ☹️ 😬 😳. HG very much all sorted now thanks to JH and I'm now able to enjoy the fruits of Oily's magic (I was on my way back from Milton Keynes when everything went pear-shaped (ought to make it very clear that the HG was well on its way out well before that - I arrived there with a distinct lack of coolant, but it hadn't got hot so we hoped it might just have been a leak)). She now purrs like a kitten or roars like a tiger depending on the mood of the driver! I hope the same can be said of yours and that you're enjoying this fine blatting weather. Adam
  8. Martin, I'm sorry, I was being flippant - this was literally immediately after the HG had failed and lasted the two minutes it took me to get out of the jam on the M25 and into South Mimms services where it spat an 'orrible mixture of coolant and oil through one of the breathers on the cam cover. Adam
  9. There's a good description of how it works here. (Note that the figures that he mentions are in Fahrenheit ) Immediately before I used it the temperature at idle was 120°C and afterwards it's about 80°C - however, there were one or two other factors involved such as the HG failure that led to the temperature of 120°C ❗ (sorted out in record time thanks to JH ). Adam
  10. Warnesy, You need one of these - no more ☹️ when there are two of you and golf clubs Were you playing at Shoreham/Darenth Valley? Off to play there this coming Saturday. Adam

    *!? dipstick

Miura, I don't know what the collective noun for a bunch of dipsticks is (a Rodney Trotter of dipsticks?), but I'm in the group as well - I always end up over-filling it and having to drain some, at which point I generally drop the sump plug in the hot oil and find myself lying on my back, plugging the hole with a thumb and scrabbling around for the plug with the other hand, burning my nose on the exhaust in the process. In a post a few weeks ago I think somebody had ascertained that the difference between min and max on the dipstick equated to 0.88 of a pint or 3.52 gills (or 50 of your finest centilitres 😬 😬) which fits with your 60 cl from dry to (possibly) overfull. Why doesn't Mister H. want to fit your Apollo 🤔 😬 Adam
  12. Nick, The second post in this thread here mentions a modification to the sump gasket and the fifth post of this thread here mentions the modifications to the pickup, though hellierperformance.com is not responding/can't be found at the moment (by me, at least). FWIW... Adam

    On M40

That was me I think, Cheers Phil On our way back from a wedding in North Wales to sunny Tunny Wells (though everywhere was sunny yesterday wasn't it?). We were just giving thanks for having reached the Oxford services - the fuel gauge seems to be tuned in to the words 'We'll just press on to the next services' and drops by a quarter of a tank the moment you pass the slip road. I assume TADTS. I must admit to pining for air con a few times, but the weakness soon passed. Why is that when in February I convince SWMBO that we should take the Seven somewhere the heat from the engine vanishes from the cockpit like Houdini in a fog but in a hot July it hangs around like an unwanted guest at a party 🤔 The harnesses seem to soak up heat and deposit it unselfishly onto your shoulders and chest highly efficiently as well ❗ Still, mustn't complain about this glorious weather and the car didn't once miss a beat - even the starter motor which has been clicking occasionally recently decided to cheese it and behave itself. Thanks again for the 'Spotted'. Hope you were able to get out and take advantage of the weather at some point over the weekend. Adam
  14. Whahey! Thanks Nick - we were on our way from Kent to North Wales and I'd have been mightily disappointed if we hadn't been spotted at least once! Yup, broiled nicely in the traffic jam at J15 - I was cooked to rare after the hold up on the M25, medium after the same on the M40, and well done and as tough as old boots by the time we reached Mold. Ho hum. SWMBO was at Keele university and whenever we pass I remember with affection the roads and countryside in the area. Cheers, Adam

    GN06 LTA

Spotted yesterday morning in Tunny Wells by the girlfriend - she was in the blue Mini with white stripes and on her mobile to me to tell me to get onto 'Spotted' quickly ❗ Adam
  16. Didn't like to speculate on an open forum, but I had a feeling that you might have been , purely for the health reasons that you mention of course 😬 Ah, yes, I was the BRG 7 with the golf clubs on the back - might have been useful to have mentioned that mightn't it It was the Sussex Oak the first time and the Bottle House the second time - which health spa had you been at yesterday?
  17. Heading towards Langton. Good evening to be out and about. Adam
  18. Third time I've spotted you I think, but yesterday was the first time it hasn't been at a pub ❗ Adam
  19. Definitely up for that! I'm afraid I can't make it to the Ringlestone Inn tonight (apologies for the delayed response), but if either of you (or anybody else) is interested in a trip to The Griffin (or elsewhere) tomorrow night or on Saturday (and I'm happy to take advantage of the hopefully clear roads during the football), say the word. Enjoy the meet tonight. Cheers! Adam
  20. I enjoyed an impressive BBQ at The Griffin a few years ago - I seem to remember that as well as various cuts of lamb, beef and venison (I think), whole snapper and sea bass were also on offer. And doesn't Prince C. pop in there from time to time? Adam

    wheel removal

    3. I bought a bonnet badge, removed the two little locating lugs and stuck it over the hole with velcro for quick and easy removal (probably by somebody else while the car is parked one day, but so far so good). The only drawback is that it doesn't sit flush on the skin, but it looks fine from anything over about 4 feet away. I did consider getting some plastic rod and gluing it to the back of the badge so that it could be screwed into the hole, but velcro was the easier option. Some people mount the number plate light using the hole and I'm sure that many other cunning things have been done. Adam
  22. Great day for it, wasn't it Adam
  23. Pleased to have given you your first 'spotted'. Sorry to hear you're in the doghouse - all I can say is that I hope the roof doesn't leak! Adam
  24. C7 SUP at about 5.30 yesterday afternoon. Hope you didn't get hailed on! Adam
  25. There is a recent thread here which covers if fairly comprehensively I think. Adam
