  1. My car is now sadly sold, thank you all for your interest here and by e-mail and phone. The new owner, Danny, has just joined the club and will no doubt be posting soon and starting to have fun on trackdays. I on the other other hand picked up a slightly tatty 911 3.2 Coupe yesterday from North Yorkshire and my new adventure begins. I will stay on as South Wilts AR for now with Paul, and have no doubt I will return to Caterham ownership in the future.
  2. Please put me down for two with circlips. Whether I buy them or the new owner I'm not sure but the car could do with a couple.
  3. I'm sure that heat, lack of airflow and whether your car has a bias valve to the rears plays a part in their higher wear rates on cars which see track miles. The standard pads on mine crumbled and in fact pieces came off after a few track days. The uprated blue spot pads and currently Mintex1144s seems to cope much better, but I do play around with the balance to make sure the rears do their share of braking.
  4. Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Advert now on Pistonheads here
  5. Hi all, It's been an unbelievably hard decision to get to this point, but I am selling my Caterham. I am sure I will come back in the future, but for now I fancy an air cooled 911 whilst still just in my price range. I would like to give members here first chance at buying, before I list it on Pistonheads next week. Full advert including photos, details and price here (it may take a while to load!) 6. I'm not far from you and can thoroughly recommend the Seven Workshop. Not at all local, but worth the effort in getting the car there, they may even be able to collect if you ask them? Read more here I had a similar light rear end contact this year in Bath.

    C spanner

That Draper one looks a bit thick for the standard Bilstein platforms with the round holes. This type is more similar to what I have, although I prefer to use stubby philips screwdrivers or punches.
  8. It was me, the sun was shining so I thought I'd take the Seven. It's number 77 btw What were you driving?
  9. Hi Neal, Let me know when you've got in mind, we might be up for this
  10. Are you able to describe the type of aeroscreen you have?

    LSD

Good move Worth going for a plate type diff (Titan or ZF) rather than a torque biasing type (guessing that you will be going sideways).
  12. *smile*No, I'm running silicone all round.
  13. The lower hose fitting on mine points downwards by 30 degrees or so, requiring me to add a new hose to bring it back to horizontal. Not sure if this is normal as the Caterham triple pass had both inlet and exit coming out straight, horizontal to the ground.
  14. Hi Andrew, Thanks for your e-mail, thought I'd reply to this thread instead . Another vote for an LSD being worth every penny in my opinion. So much depends on how and where you drive your car of course. For me the increased traction on track and easier way of getting a controlled drift out of junctions enhances the rear wheel drive pleasure that Sevens bring. Do you know what type of LSD Caterham fit? For drifting purposes I'm not sure I would go for an ATB torque biasing type, but others may have views on this. Cheers, Dave

    rear shunt

I'm pleased to say that the insurance company have agreed to pay the required amount to replace the rear skin on my car, not just repair it.
  16. I have fitted SV doors to my S3 (require modification) and these have helped cut down on turbulance inside the car and they don't flap at all as they press up against the rear arches when closed.

    rear shunt

Back of the queue you lot, my car's in first at Arch Rear end damage from a lorry a few months back, thankfully much lighter than in the photos above (glad no-one was hurt with your accidents guys). The damage to my car is almost too light as the insurance assessor is recommending repair rather than replace the rear skin which neither myself nor the Seven Workshop are happy to accept. I would recommend the Seven Workshop as they can sort everything out for you and transport the car to and from Arch and TSK.
  18. Mine bent when I first collected my car from France (not a good first day with the car 😔). Norman kindly welded it up for me but it broke again after a month or so. The new replacement from Caterham was stronger and I have had no issues with that.
  19. I bought one of these a couple of months ago, haven't tried it yet though. That's a good price btw, most places are far more expensive than that. I'm assuming I'll need to get access to a compressor to inflate the tyre and position the bead correctly.
  20. I was hoping to be a late entry but with other events planned later in the summer I had no choice but to get the car in to the Seven Workshop on Sunday after practising at Curborough. Have a good day all
  21. Quoting Eugene: Is the off-side spring extended compared to the near-side, to allow for driver weight when setting up the handling? Edited by - Eugene on 14 May 2013 11:47:04 Yes, the spring platform is higher on the drivers side. This shouldn't make a difference to the top of the spring hitting the inner bodywork though? It's a strange one I wouldn't have thought a new bush in the top of the shock will be the answer, but it's not going to harm. Will give you a call later on.
  22. Philips membership has just expired, but he would like to say the following - Thank you to everyone who has been in contact regarding my car, it has now sold and I have put down a deposit on a lovely Elise SC which is actually easier to get in and out of! It has been a pleasure to be part of this community and I will still be seeing many of you at the Wilts South meets and trackdays.
  23. Hi Andrew, Thanks for your e-mail and the chat on the phone and sorry I hadn't seen this thread until now. I obviously feel some concern and responsibility having worked on your car with you. I read back through my notes and remember we removed a damper on one side due to the two spring platforms being locked together. The spring went back on the same way around as removed and all was well, and the flat floor set up continued. I have checked both build manuals (photos) I have here and compared it to a local Severners SV and sure enough the springs are the wrong way up, just as BIO and sparky suggest. Neither of my build manuals seem to mention which way up the springs should go, is this because they are already assembled as complete units in a kit? The odd things for me is that it must have been like it from new so am surprised the orginal owner or Caterham didn't check this. I remember you saying the previous owner had set the suspension to be that low, although I can't see why he would change the springs over? One of the things we rectified was the total ride height, in particular at the rear, which was far too low and only gave 4mm rake. It's maybe this change of height and so angle which has caused the spring to contact the metal panel, where there was previously just enough clearance or an unnoticeable amount of rubbing. Having also looked on google for 'Caterham rear spring' I agree that most photos show the spring the wrong way up (the way it is fitted to your car). A previous thread didn't raise any concerns about orientation - here I think what you propose is correct; fit the springs the other way up and go for a drive and report back. Let me know if I can help in any way. Cheers, Dave
  24. Hello, The Fiat Coupe Club are having their annual fun at Curborough this Sunday (12th) and have a few places left to fill. Could be useful for some of you coming just a week before your sprint? Priced at £55 (same price as members), you should get plenty of runs through the day. I have been every year to each of their events at Curborough, they are fun and informal, with everyone taking turns to marshall, time and flag on the start line. No license needed and likely to be no more than 15 cars running on the day. You are welcome to call me on 07718 368173 for more information. To book please just let me know and then make payment to the club, bank details are on this thread on page 4 - here Thanks, Dave
