  1. When I spoke to Cobra earlier today the said they were designing one specifically for the SV body, I think the seat will be a tad narrower to allow for the mech; anyway, we can see at Stoneleigh, whoever goes can quiz them and report back! CoSwoRth it!
  2. Interesting, the fact that soft-bits makes something, suggests there is a possible "discomfort" issue with the seats. I do not find mine that comfortable mainly due to the reach problem discussed above The ones Cobra will be offering will be the reclining version (with a narrow adjusting wheel on one side only, to fit in 7) of this here: here NICE ❗ VERY NICE ❗ ❗ (and that means I will have two near-new standard leather jobbies for sale soon) CoSwoRth it!
  3. War over boys! Just spoken to COBRA who have decided to re-introduce their very tasty "roadster" seat with a recline and designed to fit in an SV. It seems they will be taking orders at Stoneleigh. Good eh! CoSwoRth it!
  4. Not easy, they are plastic and quite a complicated construction. In fact, they are not angled that much. I thimk te answer will be to move the whole caboodle down the column a bit. I was going to do that when building but decided to get it finished instead! CoSwoRth it!
  5. I am 5'9" on a warm day, my arms are not especially simian. It is simply the (imho) poor design of the curvy dash in combination with all the clutter behind the boss, that takes the switch mech for the stalks, that brings the wheel too close. That and the fact the wheel has almost 2" of dish. Therefore, I will tackle this on two fronts, one the wheel and two, ther seat back. I am thinking these might fit, here go to ONLINE CATALOGUE, then SEATS and have a look at the CARRERA RECLINER, only 51cms wide, or the TARGA, same width and great prices! Damn' good company too, most helpful. I will let you know how I get on. CoSwoRth it! Edited by - Caesar on 25 Mar 2007 10:25:40
  6. Unclefester (ou est-ce que je devrais dis l'abscès d'oncle) The Abbey Road webcam is a completely mad thing. You will see loads of Beatle mad japanese, phoning their mates on their mobiles then crossing over, waving madly! I run a rare record shop and we sometimes have it on so people can watch it! Anyway, the seats; in spite of all the expected flack about me being a lardarse and shopping at sofas-are-us it is a genuine thought. I intend to tackle the wheel later, I reckon I can devise a cunning plan to shorten the stalks (they currently protrude well past the rim of the wheel) and then I will fit a flat momo: the supplied one is quite dished. This will give me a little more "straight arm" position. But a seat with a reclining back is a damn good scheme, it means it can be tipped back a little for trackdays giving a better position with a helmet and make itself more comfortable for other drivers. However, I called Demon Tweaks and they said that nothing would fit. I dont believe that they are right, considering the SV has that extra width. It only makes me more determined to get something that does work and stick two fingers up at the critics. So, no more suggestions that I visit "Leatherland" or a dietician. However, I would consider a couple of paisley cushions just to set things off a little. CoSwoRth it!
  7. It was just a thought. I have the CSR and the steering wheel is too close (no more adjustment as it is the type with indicator stalks). What I wanted, ideally, is seats with tilt backs so I can get the better reach and easily change when the co-pilot takes over! I have jacked up the front of the standard leather SV seats with a couple of spacers and this helps for me but not when the memsahb gets to aim it. Unclefester, love your abbey road pic, did you know there is a live webcam on site? see here CoSwoRth it!
  8. Paul, during the car's build, rebuild and re-rebuild it has become a "bitza" Dont worry about the bronze effect tank, it has probably come off something else! I know what work went into the engine, it could not be bettered. Bear in mind, the pics were taken in my garage about two years ago when I was working on it and it may have changed since. You are not buying the expansion tank, rather the engine! CoSwoRth it! Edited by - Caesar on 23 Mar 2007 13:01:40
  9. Anybody tried to fit non caterham seats ? (sparco / recaro for example) given the extra width of a SV CoSwoRth it!

Thanks, Paul. I take all that on board but I find it difficult to believe that CC would build and deliver one (no more kits now) with this problem, I doubt a customer would accept it! I am putting miles on it but seriously do need to keep on top of any amendments that anyone has to offer. David Wayne, your contortions sound interesting! however, they are not curing a cause, just the symptoms but, thanks anyway, I will try your trick! Doug, Thanks for your offer of a drive, very kind. Actually this is my 4th 7 so I have an idea of how it should be and from all the response it seems to be a common problem. However, if you want to hook up sometime for a natter and a beer email me direct! I rather think Peter T might be partly right with his suggestion of mapping, this has been mentioned before with reference to other duratec engines it's just that I cannot believe it could be such a simple fix otherwise CC would have done it. Most likely a combination of several factors, mapping, throttle spring, accelerator pedal profile and a mishapen ankle! One day it will get sorted I am sure, meantime I am going to get some Lplates. CoSwoRth it!
  12. You mean you havent got the judder?? or never had it ?? I want to build up a profile of this to see how it was cured, see post elsewhere on techtalk (CSR kangaroo) CoSwoRth it!

Agreed, Simon. However, I am not yet pissed off as I anticipate teething problems, it's just that I deliberately took a lot of time building mine so that the many problems with early models could get ironed out and I would not have to incorporate them in my car. So I assumed this admitted fault ( robin said, above "CC freely admitted in the early weeks that they (CC and Cosworth) were running out of ideas" and "They are now testing a prototype of the new pedal and I'm hopeful to get a replacement (along with a longer cable) soon) ) would have had a rectification". I really cannot think that there are CSR drivers out there accepting this, as I said before, it is damn near impossible to drive in traffic or over a hump so all those who complained must have had a solution, what was it? CSR kangaroo

Robin W wrote this back last May. Has anyone received a solution yet? "I don't argue that the car may benefit from some remapping. However, I reported the hair trigger throttle to CC back in October last year when I took the car in for it's PBC. In the end it took until Christmas to determine the cause of the problem. CC freely admitted in the early weeks that they (CC and Cosworth) were running out of ideas having tried, a replacement lambda sensor, a replacement cat, no cat at all, a remapped ECU, a new ECU, a stronger throttle spring, a replacement engine loom, to name only those that I recall. In the end, it became clear that the problem lay in the throttle geometry. What was already a fairly sharp throttle became almost unmanageable in my car due to the addition of mechanical tollerances. CC's George (development engineer) produced a CAD program to model a solution, which consisted of a 22.5 deg backward bend at the top of the throttle pedal above the pivot point. This, along with a longer cable, solved the problem. They are now testing a prototype of the new pedal and I'm hopeful to get a replacement (along with a longer cable) soon. In the meantime I have tickover set at 1,300 RPM and always let the car warm up fully before driving it." it was CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

I know it has been discussed here before but I had mine SVAd last week after a slow (deliberately so ! ) build. At the end of the construction there was a problem with the loom and one of the effects was that there was no oil pressure showing. CC said they would fix this and the other electrical problems caused by a missing sub loom. I didn't know at the time it was the loom, I had changed the pressure sender to no avail so trusted CC to fix it as promised at post-build inspection, consequently I had not driven it (nor would you with a five grand engine showing nil oil pressure! ). When I collected from dartford I had my baptism of fire on the M25 and for once I was thankful to be on a road with constantly moving traffic (for, this time it was moving) as it avoided changing gear. Yes, I had the dreadful Kangaroo throttle as described here several times before. I reckon I spent the first mile going up and down rather than forward. It is simply terrible and makes the car bloody near undrivable. Thinking it might be me and that I would get used to it I took it for a run this morning. Try as I might It would snatch on a change up to second or, worst, third, no matter how gentle I was or how much I slipped the clutch and, that was on the open road. You can only imagine what it was like on my return when I hit a road with speed humps! I just could not go over one with any dignity, as soon as I hit the hump, my foot jerked on the throttle and, instantly, I was doing Learner Driver impersonations! So, after all this, what do I do? I know there has been talk of re-profiling the throttle lever or of stiffening the roller barrel spring. What did you other owners have to do to rectify this? It really is undrivable. it was CoSwoRth it! in the end!! Edited by - caesar on 11 Mar 2007 11:33:46
  18. Keep them coming! I am not going to rush into this... I certainly want one, I intend to do a fair bit of touring and, although punctures are rare, hitting a wheel on a kerb or rock isn't, I think a spare is common sense for rural continental touring. In answer to Malcom, I would reckon a front wheel would be the only option as it will fit anywhere but a rear one won't. There must be other CSR owners who think the same or is it that they dont drive theirs due to the kangaroo under the bonnet ? (see other posting) it was CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  19. Thanks Tom but the CSR has a completely different frame so has to have a different approach. Actually, when I speced my kit I ordered a spare wheel option (and paid £250 !) only to find that when I looked in the box of bits there was nothing except the wheel carrier from a 'normal' model and no way to fit it! CC subsequently told me that there wasnt an option. However, Bruce at Arch thinks it should be fairly simple (if they can build a frame for a CSR then they certainly can sort this out!). Its just that it would be a good idea if they made up a batch rather than one. David W, I cannot answer any queries on price as I am just talking to Arch but, if we let this topic run for a while and see how many are interested I will ask Bruce for a spec and a quote. it was CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

  22. I am Talking to Arch about getting a removable one made. Bruce feels it should be a straight-forward bit of kit, most likely fitting through the two towing eyes and anchoring on the lower wishbone bolts. In fact, I am going to get two done, one for the spare and another to take a spare and a suitcase. Any other CSR owner want to come in on this? CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

    Tom Tom in 7

getting more complicated! What I am lookin to do is fit an openface helmet with a Starcom headset which will be connected to a Tom Tom, this having bluetooth to my 'phone means I will be able to hear voiceprompts from the Tom and also hear when my phone gets a message. I might even connect the mic so I can take calls. (And, shock horror, I will plug in a small portable radio for those long moments on the A22 when nothing moves.) So I will need to mount the Tom somewhere under the dash so i can see it and also be within reach to tap it a bit. It is bound to need an aerial I reckon. But the Rider sounds interesting. Any more info gratefully received! CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

thanks GJT, however, I have one of these new fangled CSR things with the curved dash, the best position seems to be the engine side of the gearstick so I guess I will need some sort of aerial. CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

interesting! so you dont need an external aerial even though it's buried under the dash?? CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
