  1. Thanks Shaun! Pleased about that! The Optimate is a nice bit of kit, especially with the "wander" socket that you can hard wire into the battery circuit so you only have to plug the charger in without having to get to the battery. Good oh! CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  2. Hi Brent, not yet. Spoke to the ever helpful Simon Lambert at Dartford who gave me a suggestion to check whether the sender or the guage was at fault; it seems the sender may be so another is winging it's way to me to check. I must say that in my heart, I know the engine was bench run so there must be oil pressure but I anm reluctant to run it any more without a proper reading on the guage. Having said that, I did run it on idle for ten minutes until the fans kicked in (with my hand on the kill button, just in case of a "bad noise") and nothing seized up! The oil level is right up the dip mainly because I have put loads of oil in , much more than recommended, but according to Mister Lambert's recent mail out about CSR oil levels (have you got yours?) it doesnt matter as it will spit it out when it is full. Rather like me on a Saturday night! David CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  3. I have just bought am OPTIMATE 3 charger / conditioner but find, on reading the instructions (unusual for me) that it says "not for charging dry cell or NiCad batteries". I have a varley red top battery, can I use this charger or, if not, anyone got a suggestion. (It seems strange if I cannot, as I use an ordinary charger to top it up 🤔) CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

    brake fluid

I have a container of the Comma / Caterham one as supplied but it will not be quite enough, I fear, to allow for a good bleed. Any problem mixing it with another I can get from Halfords or similar, do they, in fact, do one with the right heat spec etc? CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  6. Thanks Paul and Brent. I will change the sensor / sender and see what happens. fingers crossed! CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  7. Er, getting back, sort of, on topic I mis-informed, the (dial) guage only shows 2 on start up (after the swing to max) even with a little rev it doesnt want to come up and this is with the oil cold. I haven't got the bottle to let it run any more than a few seconds although oil level on the micro-dipstick in the swirl tower shows full. Could a sensor be the cause! CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  8. can any owner give me a steer on this. Just fired up 260 engine for the first time, the oil pressure dial flicks to max for a few seconds then drops down to about 4 on idle. I rather suspect sender. Any clues?? CoSwoRth it! in the end!! Edited by - caesar on 25 Aug 2006 10:48:48
  9. in case you need the trickery, I did it by fitting a nut and a piece of dexion instead of the gearknob and then lifting it with an engine hoist tied around said nut. I bloody nearly lifted the whole car until it popped out! you can see an earlier thread here CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  10. just finishing a csr kit, fitted the gearlever and found it fouled the dash in 1st, 3rd and 5th. CC said send it back to us and we will bend it. Could I get it off again? Could I beggary!! Its an interference fit into the box (maybe it shouldnt be) and there is nowhere to lever it out in a csr as it is sunk below the tunnel. After a long while I was able to draw it out by trickery, I sincerely hope you dont have this problem! Let me know if you do CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

  14. good suggestion! but cannot quite understand why there is no connection between gearlever hole and box sump or is it just a weeping joint that just lets a dribble through? CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  15. thought I could fill my six-speed through the gear lever hole but, no. Just fills up the cavity with the selector lever. 🤔 CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  16. Can anyone explain how my fuel tank does not explode when there are two wires that enter the top and are conected to the slider on the end of the float mechanism. There must be voltage here and the possibility of a spark. CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  17. anybody fitted non-caterham ones (recarro / momo etc) in a SV in view of extra width it should be possible CoSwoRth it! in the end!! Edited by - Caesar on 2 Aug 2006 09:15:51

    csr build

to respond, YES, Jojn, it is bad service but I feel they didn't know the problem first off and mine was one of the first kits, but it might have been polite to mail an update to builders with modifications such as this rather than us finding out the annoying way; annoying because when I found it fouled I had the devil of a job getting the beggar off as it is an inteference fit into the g/box and there is no room underneath to tap it out. I wasted two hours and a lot of expletives with this! Having said this and after speaking to the ever helpful Simon Lambert at CC I have returned it for them to bend as I do not think I have the facility to do this, it is a chunky bit of kit. No Angus&Tessa, it is not sorted until I get it back! And Dave, No, there is quite a crank and an extension piece on top of this so shouldn't. (ever the optimist!) Actually, all these little twists and conundrums do nothing to reduce the appeal of the car as a kit, merely to make it a more personal item and to prove my patience! The reason for my slow build (so far 11 months!!) is not the just stunning list of parts "missing in action" but because I have a lot of other things that occupy my time and building this is a hobby. I used to spend weeks building my airfix kits to a high standard and i see this as no different, a little more costly I admit but still great fun and a learning process (for CC that is!!). Believe me, I am really enjoying the slow progress and almost do not want it to be over. Well, ALMOST !! CoSwoRth it! in the end!!

    csr build

any of you builders had this one? Just fitted gearstick and it hits the dash tubes (tubular dash configuration) when 1st 3rd and 5th are engaged. Gearbox / engine cannotbe too far forward as there is no leeway. I could get the crank in lever bent a little more but reluctant to try and cure the effect rather than the cause. Any ideas?? csr wiring

Simon, thanks, quite possible. As I dont have a stack that's why these are going nowhere! Richard, if you do find someone with the circuit diagram could you let me know. Thanks CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
  25. My tank is out of my being-built csr; I think I will take it to dartford to see what their remedy will be. Anyone else taken theirs in to the "experts" ? CoSwoRth it! in the end!!
