  1. Assuming you're leaving the gearbox in the car? 2) I used a couple of small ratchet straps when I recently removed the engine and gear box from my car - I think they came from Halfords.... Previously I've borrowed a pair of strops from a local club member. 3) Yes that works reasonably well 4) Use pipe lagging over the chassis rails to protect them from the engine - it will swing and you could damage the coating. One of the starter bolts can be difficult to access - I remember using a pair of long socket extensions to reach it. Also make sure you have all of the bellhousing/engine bolts removed before splitting the housing from the engine.... 5) When I had an apollo I removed the engine with the tank/pipes still attached - it will come out like that.... 2. GN08 ???, Yellow with black stripe SV with the hood up, waiting in the queue of traffic for the level crossing at about 5:25 pm today. I was in the tin top a couple of cars in front of you Dave
  3. The symptoms you describe as very similar to mine when the pads were due to be replaced - have you checked the wear on the pads? Dave
  4. I have the diagram for the EU2 Rx00 engines - any use to you? If so drop me a BM with your email address and I'll forward it to you. Dave
  5. When I bought mine they had a jig on which they made the systems - basically a mock up of the LHS of a caterham complete with engine. I went with Powerspeed because it was cheaper and better finished than the Caterham equiv, though noise is proving a bit of a problem with mine (I have a R400 engine, and though freshly packed it will measure 96-97db, it is still loud on drive by - I was black flagged at Castle Coombe last time I was there). Some have gone for a rear exit system to improve the noise levels - basically another silencer hung across the back of the car. TBH I think noise will be a problem with any tuned engine with the standard off the shelf systems Edited by - davef on 15 Mar 2009 10:34:49

At around 6:45 tonight, yellow with two black stripes on a trailer heading towards Heathrow Dave
  7. Hi, In the next few day's I'm taking my chassis over to arch for repairs. As it's partially stripped down, I need to find a way of securing and protecting the front part of the wiring loom during transportation and the work. Any suggestions on the best way of doing this - one suggestion I've heard is to put it into a bin bag and shove it up the transmission tunnel....? Dave
  8. The build manual I have says "Rear damper bolts (All) 40lbft/55Nm" and 35lbft/48Nm for the brake caliper - that's for the De Dion suspension. Dave

    Fuel tank removal

Just back from the garage removing the tank. I couldn't get the fuel out of the tank - not enough height for syphon to work (and no battery to run the pump). In the end took the FIA bar off and with my helper lifted the tank upwards and out. Easy enough in the end. Dave
  11. Geoff, thanks for the photos. Unfortunately I'm looking for a pair of 13", so over to Trevor.... Dave
  12. Geoff - YHBM with a couple of Qs, and first dibs please subject to the answers Dave
  13. Hi all, Any tips/guidance for removing the fuel tank from a DD car? I need to take mine out for some repair work to the car. Doe it come out upwards or downwards...... Dave
  14. Apologies Adrian - YHBM back. Dave
  15. How much? 1st dibs pls depending on the price..... Dave Edited by - davef on 16 Jan 2009 14:00:58
  16. Nifty, I have the 4-2-1 powerspeed system. I have finally dug out the graphs and the scanner, and have posted them onto the dyno plot site. The first plot was done at a power run in Sept '06, and the only mod to the engine from the sealed-by-Minister state was to have DVA fit and time verniers. The second plot is the result of the mapping session in Dec '06 by the two Steves. You can compare the two and see the result 😬 Edited to add that I'm running the standard Pipercross sausage filter with no airbox (and no cut out in the bonnet). Noise is a problem - 100db is very marginal. Dave Edited by - davef on 13 Dec 2008 00:59:31
  17. This is what I wrote at the time: Two years on I would add: - passing the emissions test for the MOT wasn't a problem - I have a cat'd exhaust for MOTs and fitted that. - the lift in torque across is noticeable on the road - The engine just wants to rev all the way to the limiter, and at the top end pulls hard - pop'n'bangs have gone, and the fuel economy is significantly improved The reason for lifting the rev limit is because peak power is actually above 8k (I'll check the graph tonight)- Steve wanted to set mine around 8.5/8.6 but I thought that was too high..... Still highly recommended.... Dave
  18. Minister set the soft limit to 8000, with the hard limit @ 8050 on the R400 K series engines. Steve set mine to 8250 (I think - can't check for a while as it currently out of the car) Dave
  19. How much do you want for it? Dave
  20. 2nd dibs on the radiator pls. Thanks Dave
  21. Mark, Stu, thanks for the offer and advice. In the end I bought a pair of dollies from an ebayer - slightly cheaper than Machine Mart and they've already proved ot be very useful. Also managed to borrow a crane from a guy at work so today I pulled the engine and gearbox out of the wreck. Dave

    A numpty Q

MAP sensor gives an indication of engine load so the fuelling can be set appropriately for the engine speed, load and air temp. Dave
