    Paint Job

John, Budget around £1000, provided you can do most of the stripping down before hand, otherwise it's going to add a lot more in labour charges to take it apart and reassemble it afterwards. Give me a call if you want to discuss it in more detail, Dave H
  2. Graeme, Under the chassis, I've always found the axle rolls forward once the Aframe is disconnected. I agree if you put the stands under the axle the job becomes even worse, and the axle & Aframe become complete b******ds to line up. A pleasant 5 minute job 🤔 - not on my car it ain't. Never been one of my favourite jobs. Dave H
  3. Once I've jacked the car up, and got it on the axle stands, I put the jack under the front of the diff, take the bolt out and then use a lever (big screwdriver) to move the Aframe enough to get the bushes out. If you don't support the front of the diff the axle will roll once the Aframe is free, and it makes refitting even more of a pain. You can use the a nut and bolt to compress the bushes enough to start fitting them, then remove the bolt, press/hammer/force the Aframe back into position, then insert the original bolt. Do not try this job while anyone of a sensitive nature is around...you may even remember some words you thought you'd forgotten 😳 Good luck, Dave H
  4. This sounds like the rear A frame bush - they don't last very long on the Live Axle, especially if you get any oil on them. It's a 30 minute job to fit new ones, you need a pair of them. They are top hat shaped and you push one in from each side. Caterham & Redline both stock them and supply mail order - I usually buy half a dozen or 10 at a time. It is more than likely to be the extra drive train shunt you're getting. Dave H
  5. Most parking tickets have a serial number on them - I tear it off and put it in my wallet, and tuck the torn edge of the rest of the ticket under the stantion. Any arguements, I've at least got proof of purchase. Dave H

    Ital Axle Part

Sorted - Redline had one in stock....and it's cheaper than Rover (who don't have any anyway) Dave H

    Ital Axle Part

Needed - brake adjuster - one of mine seized up, and now its broken - anyone got an old axle now they've gone Ford? Thanks, Dave H
  8. If you are running with the standard rocker cover, get down to your scrappie and get hold of the washers from a Sierra - they are banana shaped, and spread the load much better, helping to prevent leaks. Dave H
  9. Colin, The standard replacement for the crossflow is the Zetec, either 1.8 or 2L will "drop in" with very little trouble. A 1.8 with uprated cams will give 175 bhp without too much trouble. A Vauxhall can be fitted, but you need to get the bell housing adaptor, as the engine has the holes in different places and won't line up with the current bell housing. It has been done - Lol Pilfold and Roger Swift are 2 I can think of. Dave H
  10. Steve, I have an older copy of the Build Manual (early '90's), and I can photocopy any bits you require - complete with greasy fingure marks 😳. Drop me an email, or phone - No's in LF - West Sussex AO. Dave H

    Fuel guage Sender

I think, from memory, it's a 2BA, but I can't be certain, without taking mine apart, which I'm not going to do, 'cos I'm using it for work this week....sorry 😬. Dave H
  12. The speedo ratios are changed at the gearbox end - there is a gear which the end of the speedo cable fits, and it will need changing - but the gearbox will have to come out to do it. I don't think there is a way of recalibrating the speedo itself, although VDO may do it for you - at a price Did the speedo read correctly before you changed the cable? Dave H
  13. Normal, I've created a fully removable scuttle (interchangable aero & full screens), and regularly remove mine for wiring/dashboard jobs. You will find the wiper system can be a bit awkward to get out, and you'll have to disconnect the speedo cable , then, if you don't have a heater (I don't think there is room for one under your bonnet is their?) the scuttle can be removed along with the front panel. Undo the 2 nuts each side where the scuttle joins the body, and the bolts that pass through holding the steering column in place, and it should, with a little persuasion, lift off. If will probably be held by some mastic along the front edge, but this can be peeled off, and doesn't seem to increase the amount of water entering the car when it rains . Hope this helps, Dave H
  14. Peter, You had the info far closer to hand than I did, cheers. Terry, This has to be THE definitive Xflow book - I even managed to take mine apart, and get it running when I put it back together 😬 using this book. Dave H
  15. Terry, I have a copy you can borrow - I'll be at The Gribble this evening, and can bring it along. Otherwise give me a call - numbers in LF, West Sussex AO. Dave H
  16. Richard, My local motor factors sometimes stock Waxoil in areosol cans. These come with a tube narrow enough to fit in a drilled out rivet hole, and seems to provide a reasonable cover inside the tube - I sprayed in alternate holes until it leaked out the ones I didn't spray in. If you want me to try and get you some next time you are over let me know, and we'll see you at Chiddingley once again. Dave H
  17. Brian, 1) I think the standard settings from Caterham are 20 mins toe-in, but I'm sue someone will be along any minute with a different answer 2) You should be OK once you've given it the Oil & Filter change. Just don't hold it at max revs for long periods. 3) It could be a timing problem, if you are getting unburnt fuel out, then you may need to advance the timing slightly at idle - if you are running on a distributer rather than 3d mapped - it will make very little difference once you use the loud pedal. Dave H
  18. Redline are usually a good source for all things not on the current Sevens. Phone 01883 346515 Dave H
  19. Nick, I run a 1.8 Zetec, with the alternator on the inlet side. I believe the 2 litre water pump runs in the opposite direction. I don't know about the pully, I gat all my stuff for the installation from James Whiting, and I know some came from Raceline originally. Dunells also do Zetec conversions, so may well be worth a call. Hope this helps, Dave H
  20. On the one occasion I used a lower viscocity oil than the 15/50 I usually stuck in my Xflow, I was surprised at how much lower the oil pressure was. Swapped it all for a Zetec and the pressure is a lot higher now 😬. As said earlier - it would be worth checking the sender out, at least make sure the connections are OK. Dave H
  21. I used to get mine (oil filters) from the local motor factors - cheaper than Halfrauds, and the man behind the counter knew what he was selling. As for oil - nothing too expensive for a crossflow, it only leaks out later . Seriously, unless the engine is a special, a reasonable "low tech" multigrade will be fine. Dave H

    carb size?

First thought - you can always jet the 48's down, they should give you more scope for tuning later. Second thought - give James Whiting a ring. He's not "doing" Zetecs anymore, but he is the man who knows a lot more than most about putting one in a Seven, and the options you would have. Dave H 1.8 Zetec on 45's
