  1. I want to check / adjust the airflow balance across my webers. I have gone through all of the info in FAQ and other sites but I do not see what you adjust to change the airflow. Is there a simple diagram that shows which screw to turn. Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  2. The ones in the picture have a pillar loop which is designed to mount on the B pillar of the car. Where as I think you want one that does not have that as the belt comes straight out of the retractor and goes over your shoulder. The other minor point is to be crefull of the length of the metal strap on the buckle as if it is too short it is a bast##d to fit down the side of the seat. Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  3. When the occupant goes down under the lap portion of the belt it is called submarining. Again on normal inertia reel belts this risk can be reduced with lap portion of the belt being tightened with buckle or third point pretensioners. There are certain models of car that are fitted with a inflatable cushions that deploy under the thighs to stop submarining. Crotch straps on harnesses also need to be adjusted carefully. If you are not squemish you can search on pistonheads to see what happens if they are not. Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  4. Norman You are right, a properly adjusted 4 point harness will hold you in place more securely than a three point inertia reel system. One of the down sides of the comfort of Inertia Reel systems is that they are not usually as tight at the start of the impact. This can be due to position and movement of the occupant or loose clothing, thick jumpers, coats etc. This is why a lot of modern high scoring Euro NCAP cars are fitted with retractor, buckle or 3rd point pretensioner systems. These are designed to pull in the slack and tighten the belt before the occupant start to move forward in the impact. The reason that more road cars are not fitted with 4 point belts as standard is comfort and I believe the regulation requires that the belt must be able to be buckled up using only one hand. 5. Jack, Sorry I missed this mail earlier and it just popped up while I was searching for something else. The proper name for the "rolling thing" is a Retractor. On the later De-Dion chassis it is mounted in a little pocket behind the rear bulkhead. For the older live axle chassis the mounting point is the same hole as the roll bar mounts into. The retractor is mounted on this point and sits up ontop of the mounting point. And you are correct it looks a bit awkward. I recently managed to get a pair of belts and buckles to fit my LA as I did not want to have any arguments with French MOT. They are a little bit like rocking horse pooh to get hold of. You do have to be careful with finding any old belt that looks like it will fit as the installation angles etc for the vehicle crash sensor can vary from installation to installation. After all the Inertia Reel Belt is a lot more convenient than a harness but you do want it to work if you have a shunt. Speedy Cables

Recently had them add kph graphic to my speedo, good job, bit expensive only frustration was they would not give me a view on the progress of the work as when I called it was replied that will take 20 working days from reciept of part. I had no idea if it was in work waiting for people or parts or just sitting there waiting for the 20 days to expire and for it then to be started on. So in summary if you want it quick it could be a problem. Chris
  7. Blatmail is still down 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  8. The problem I have is I am in France and the same rules do not apply. So I am looking for a way to get Emmission compliant while justifying the cost to myself as an upgrade. At the same time I am investigating the not so straight forward routes to solve the problem. PS "millsn" sorry to hi jack your thread 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  9. So going back to the original question. if you install a Zetec as offered at Raceline at the moment. If you run it and want to meet the Emmission standard for an 98car could you do that with the following setup Carbs or Injection With Cat in exhaust With lambda sensor etc If Injection do you need to go closed loop on the ECU or can you do by managing basic parameters Sorry for the basic level of question but I would be intereted to convert to Zetec and meet Emmisisons with no concerns. 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  10. *nono* You live in France now you should know it has nothing to do with Technical Specifications and all about bureaucracy. Did you get your rear view mirrors sorted? Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  11. Spotted by my daughter near Oxford Brookes Uni, Sat afternoon. She called me to demand an explanation as to why I had not called in to visit here when I was obviously driving past the end of her road. I have the same colour car and live near Paris. May call on your services at another time as a decoy Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise Edited by - Abbot on 22 Mar 2009 08:40:19

    Greasing U Js

So that leads to the next question. How do you grease, inspect or service the sliding joint. it sounds like this can only be done out of the car??? Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise

    Greasing U Js

Thanks for the feedback. Has anyone experienced a propshaft going bang if it is not greased? 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise

    Greasing U Js

Hi All, Did a few jobs on the car at the weekend including greasing the UJs. The rear one went well. When I eventually found the front one, I greased it but fresh grease only seemed to ouze out of one pair of bearings. Is that OK or is there a nack to getting the grease to flow out of all. As I said the rear worked well with no effort Any comments welcome> Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  17. Not sure about rarity but it just seems a bit steep for a new one from Caterham
  18. I do not have the same concern as SWMBO will not set foot in my cat. The heater is there to keep my toes warm. Drop me a line if you go ahead and end up with a valve you want to lose Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  19. Hi Alex When you have finished this job will you have a heater control valve that you do not need? I use my X flow on cold days in the winter and I am thinking I need a valve to control the temp a bit. Chris 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise

    Wiley X1s

Thanks I will give that a try. Separating the foam is what I was worried about. 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise

    Wiley X1s

Santa brought me a pair of Wiley X1s yesterday. Not sure if it is me being a bit slow after a long hard day of eating, drinking and vegging out but I cant seem to get the nack of removing the foam pad. I have read the instructions but it does not seem to want to move when I push with my thumb. I dont want to break them so just looking for guidance. Thanks 1700ss BRG/Yellow Stripe the only way to cruise
  22. Picked up tyres today with replaced valves. I was given a bit of a hard time by the old boy in the garage wanting to know what I had been doing. Times like this my indignant French kicks in well. It appears the brand new valves had perished a bit around the seal. I think it is definitely a case of cheap Chinese goods
  23. *cry* Real bummer. 🙆🏻 The wheels were dropped off at the garage that fitted them yesterday. SWMBO forgot to pick them up this afternoon and he is closed for the weekend. And what is the weather forecast for the weekend? You guessed bright and sunny.
  24. So no one has had my problem before?
  25. About a month ago I had 4 new A021Rs fitted to my car. The two rear valves started leaking at the joint to the wheel. They were new valves . One of them actually gave out an audible hiss if you tweaked it. SWMBO took them back to the garage that fitted them to get them sorted. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Chris
