  1. I have adjustable platform standard shocks which I think are 170lb. I found some on ebay that were 250lb caterham race springs but they are much bigger diameter (they mentioned a 2.25” ID which I'd measured and mistook for OD...) what do I need to buy? are there adaptors? or replacement platforms? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196060522950 cheers! J
  2. contact me on my order form if you want one. not sure what price I'd set. probs 15 quid as it needs the insert.
  3. I have both the motamecs and the Spa. I wouldn't buy the motamecs. the clamp IS superior, but the mirrors are not as convex and they suffer from the narrow view as the caterhams (not quite as bad, but not great). I have a comparison here: and I can sell you gaskets/shims to turn the curvy bit of the screen into a flat surface for the clamp. I also sell little friction cups to stop the on/off nature of the spa clamp bolt.
  4. can i see that without removing the lifters? I had a look tonight but I can't tell. couldn't see if there were any green ones. I don't think they're double springs either. I'm thinking this might be not too simple.
  5. I have a mechanic friend who is going to help out replacing the timing chain & tensioner and valve stem seals. chain replacement seems fairly straightforward. sounds like the valve stems is a bit of a bugger as you need to pressurise the cylinders to be bale to disconnect the retainers I might know someone that works for Ford so I can get discount parts 😄 assuming that the parts are standard ford items, how do I find the part numbers that we need to order? anyone else done these jobs?
  6. I got totally sick of barely being able to reach my heater knob to pull it. so I present... John's big knob! (John's original knob for scale) now when I'm strapped in, I can easily reach it.
  7. so a day giving people rides in the 7 at bedford made me realise that in dampish conditions, with an extra person in the car it can be tricky to react to front wheel lockups as I've got earplugs in and the car is already not braking very well from having an extra person on board,. so it got me thinking.... wheel lock sensors! they use them in Le Mans, why not on the 7. some blue LEDs that light up when one of the wheels hasn't rotated in a certain amount of time . disabled under a certain speed. so now I'm looking at hall sensors, magnets and where to attach them on the hubs. 6x3mm magnets by the hub shouldn't cause _much_ vibration. I could always fit 2.
  8. I already have asda-price versions of them 😄
  9. I can sell you mirror mounts so you can run decent Spa Convex mirrors 😄 https://uberniche.co.uk/caterham-spa-adapters
  10. I'm 5'7" with a long spine and short legs. meteor motorsport do this: https://www.instagram.com/p/CsmSk1HoTA7 I'm very happy with it, but Roger is also right. you'll be fine.
  11. which part of "stupid" did you not get 😄 I had to look up the word and it's Chindogu I got a bit bored today so made some press-fit dust caps cos I HATE getting my fingers dirty with those stupid things https://www.instagram.com/p/CyoKM7Bohrk/ I think reversing cameras are available for reasonable money as are actual g-meters on your phone.
  12. Yeah from memory it’s all about countering the lift at the front.
  13. I love this idea! I have that problem. I’d imagine waterproofing would be a nightmare. 🤔
  14. I'm just tuning my G-Meter https://www.instagram.com/p/CyYu69ooyzO/ that has been quite good fun. I think it maybe needs a button to set the g-limit from 1 to 1.5, or maybe I can just make it intelligently increase it where needed (I'm using a £10 13x8 led panel so I'm quite limited) I'm rebuilding my indicator unit but waiting for heavier duty cabling as it's been a bit flaky due to cables flexing and eventually becoming inconsistent https://www.instagram.com/p/CyltY0loFpm and indicating and not being 100% sure it's going to do the blinky thing is quite distracting. I've been working on the indicators for a year or two and they work brilliantly 99% of the time, but ..... that's not good enough. I think the haptic feedback will help anyhow. I've been playing about with 24H (quite chunky "high torque" small electric stepper) motors recently and I've been thinking that active aero would be relatively easy to do, but completely pointless. the main problem (aerodynamically) with the car is nose lift at speed. I could maybe come up something that dropped an air dam, or an air scoop or a mechanical middle finger? .... 🤷‍♀️ any stupid ideas? I love me a stupid idea. here's my most recent redesign of someone else's stupid idea: https://www.instagram.com/p/CyEKS92sJu0/ J
  15. It's been a while since my last advert for this stuff and lots of new members. I sell 3D printed plugs (about 70 or so to club members) that will fit into your Caterham's pedal to make it wider, so that you can more easily "heel and toe" (in reality, it's just using the side of your foot to blip the throttle). This is especially useful in SV chassis cars where the gap can be up to 75mm. I supply a 8mm plug on the right side, and two of 10, 15 or 20, 25, 30 mm extension plugs on the left to tune the gap. In my S3 chassis I have a 50mm gap in which I use a 10mm plug and in my size 8 driving boots, it's perfect. 35mm seems pretty good to me and is about 1/3 of the width of my foot. for an SV a 20mm is pretty good. Following on from the 70 sets of my pedal plugs I've supplied to you lot, I've come up with a new way of paying for super-unleaded. After a few months testing including 4000 miles and 6 trackdays, I am happy to offer my new larger pedal extensions: The body is curved to provide a much larger contact point for your foot, meaning much more comfortable and even easier to heel-and-toe. I can supply with grip tape or without. After 4000 miles of testing, I'm not using it currently. The back has a marker for drilling a small hole to fit a self-tapper for increased anti-rotation. where the drill hole is to be put the plastic is heavily reinforced I'm doing these for 30quid+6p&p and can do any usual colour. any questions? if you're interested in this or my custom mirror mounts, quadlock mounts or any of the other stuff that I make, go have a look at https://uberniche.co.uk cheers! John
  16. I have one, but I'm not interested in posting. I'm based in north london.
  17. Fully expect this to not work but.... extra cooling added. I think the buildup of hot air in their just softens everything. adding some cooling holes should allow th hot air to escape but not too much crap to get in. they'll need some testing at a trackday to prove it.
  18. they're great on road but not amazing on track. I had one in my 130i and it was the same. not always great traction out of corners. which is exactly what they're supposed to be for. A Tracsport is on the cards eventually.
  19. Not having problems with the quaife apart from it not working on fast exits of corners. But that's a quaife for you :( same in both the cars I've had them in. Unweight the inside wheel and it just doesn't lock.
  20. the photo of the magplug was my diff plug from 3 months ago that I'd forgotten that I'd changed the diff oil (suspected quaife diff). the engine oil is with millers now getting checked and I'm waiting on a oil filter and the report before I put the oil back in. the lack of a magplug for the duratec is pretty annoying.
  21. I guess the heat is from the diff AND the brakes. I can't imagine the rears are causing more heat thant the fronts. v0v I've just designed some with cooling channels but they're never gonna work :D I was thinking of doing a pseudo-turbofan but honestly, they'll be a bit of a joke. the alternative is a cap that has to be inserted from the rear.... which might work. to Fusion360!
  22. every time I've pressed the loud pedal my poor dog ducks. I won't take her anywhere other than the pub in it anymore.
  23. So. I made a massive mistake. That's not the sump plug. That's a diff plug. I dropped the oil this week and the duratec doesn't have a flippin magnetic sump plug. Anyone know if one exists for a wet redline duratec sump? Raceline say no. I'm sending some oil off to millers for analysis this week so hopefully that'll come back clean.
  24. I printed some quite natty ones in dual colours up. you can see them missing in all my photos :D I'm not sure what happens to them I have some that I saved from the track. I think the heat softens them up so they just... fall off... so yeah. I can't help you here :D
