  1. you tell me! measure your bar, add 1mm for VHB and we're golden. OK. let's make them and see if they work. can you guys goto https://forms.gle/DpTGsNrgPXGaVSZi8 and add bar/cage size and your addresses and we can see if it's a crap idea or not. as usual, we can see if it works before I demand money! 😄
  2. So Graham Hutton suggested I could make some high-level brake mounts for the cheap LED panels that half of us are running for high level brake lights. It turns out I already made one for the cheap LED panel that I'd bought but thought it would be a bit niche.... ironic eh? Anyhow, I thought I'd make something generic which people might find helpful. would anyone be interested in something like this? it'd be made out of a flexy rubbery plastic (TPU) and attached to your rollbar/cage with VHB tape (I can supply this). The flat bit would be 12x20mm (or whatever is needed)and they're made so that the bottom of the LED is in line with the bottom of the cage, so that it isn't covered by the half-hood and isn't sticking down into your rear vision. the ones I made for myself have holes in that take brass fittings so that they can be attached with M5 bolts: not sure about price, £15 including p&p? a fiver more for the ones with brass fittings as they cost money and effort. led recommendations: I bought these: https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/led-third-brake-light-red-lens-280mm which had mega-short cables so you'd need to extend them and life is too short. I then bought these: https://www.sevensandclassics.com/online-shop/p/high-level-brake-light?utm_medium=email&utm_source=customer_notification which came with nice long cables, but they had tabs which I can't see in the picture. 3. you can stash the aero in the car and drive with a screen. I won't be driving my aero on the road again after my last trackday. 12hrs in a full face lid is too much.
  4. Chuck an order on uberniche.co.uk and we can go from there. (You pay when you’re happy, not when you order)
  5. not sure how I missed this, but yes. easy. I'd need a measurement of the strap thickness as well to make sure the bite was right.
  6. yup. John A stuck the first 50k on it, I'm 1/5th of the way into the next 50k. I spoke to the both John's that owned it on pistonheads briefly, I don't think the 2nd had it very long, neither the next owner.
  7. JV I have Roller throttles as well so yeah the trumpets are a bugger to get off weven with ball-ended hex keys. from what you both say it sounds like with cold oil and fast hands I might be able to do it without another sub 2000 mile oil change (I'm waiting til March for the next oil change) I guess just jack the left hand side of the car up and be fast
  8. honestly, looking at that oil.... 🤕 it's probs got 2000 miles in it.
  9. damn! I've ordered the replacement hose for my R400D https://caterhamparts.co.uk/oil-system/2840-oil-cooler-hose-duratec-short.html anyone know what torques this thing requires and if (I know I know) I can change it without dropping ALL the oil out of the car? I suspect I'd need to turn the car over to do this 😄 cheers! J
  10. it's not really a problem if you're running a screen
  11. Hey Ray. sorry, I've been away for the weekend. it's sat on my desk ready to go out in the next day or two. J
  12. if anyone else has any, I'm after a spare set of spa's. I'll likely be chucking some motamecs on ebay at some point. Rhys, get ready for getting smashed in the face by your harness straps! (I have a solution of course)
  13. Honestly, the first 2 are rare 2nd hand. There's an aero screen with mirrors on eBay at the moment but I think it's S3
  14. current progress: got some 9mm plywood down on the floor to level and create a better surface for the scales.I need to buy some 3mm mdf sheets to fine tune it measured with a laser level and the floor is about 20mm lower at the back, this can be fixed with some chopped up ply and a tape measure. the scales definitely give slightly different results depending on where the wheel sites. I'll have to mark the scales so that they're central. the scales all measure 70kg within a few 100 grams. I need to try this whilst holding another 50kg. I remembered that I own trakrite alignment kit that I'd never used because the floor in my garage was too uneven. will see what it's like now. the 10quid magnet angle gauge works brilliantly.
  15. I can sell you some black rubbery plastic caps for your windscreen wipers (as seen on Graham's car). or just use some finger puppets like I do 😄
  16. Looking at this steering part, if this was 10% shorter, would that not give more lock and faster steering? Obvs it would make steering heavier but.... https://caterhamparts.co.uk/steering-arms/5287-tie-rod-lever-rh-2015-radial-caliper.html Maybe it's a silly idea, but another 10 or 20 deg would increase hooligan coefficient by quite a lot
  17. First go with the scales. the floor just isn't smooth or flat enough. I need to go buy some thick plywood. lifting and dropping the wheels got slightly different weights by ¬200g off to jewsons tomorrow perhaps!
  18. Oh that's actually doable. I'm in Camden. it might actually be easier some time for me to just bring my scales to you and do a comparison
  19. Where abouts are you? it'd be interesting to compare the two solutions. (as much as my hack is a solution 😁) jigsaw arrived and it's a nice bit of kit. off to Jewsons tomorrow and strapping some 2.4x1.2m plywood to the roof of the 7!
  20. tested the first set of scales last night and had a problem where they'd turn off after 30 seconds. turns out they were pulling so few amps from my battery pack the battery turned off 😰 they happily sat at 200kg with one wheel propped up and the other sat on the scale. 3 more scales ordered, total cost about 140quid. jigsaw should arrive tomorrow so I can go buy some wood, strap it to the rollcage and bring it home, then start chopping up wood for ramps onto the scales. I'll keep you posted.
  21. he wasn't the most responsive of people when I dealt with him. I'm happy with mine. finding a collector was my main problem, I found one of the correct size luckily on ebay
  22. alignment poles are done. I think something to stop them from being knocked in the... tight space that I have to work with might help. maybe just something to ziptie it to the reverse lamp. scale seems quite stable and when powered from usb, doesn't turn off. now for some ramps. I'll need a bunch of 10mm ply I think for which I've just bought a jigsaw... spend 200quid to save a few quid.
  23. my 12quid angle gauge can't 😄 I just tried it. sticks to my cage and shows me that I have a 1/2 deg lean on my floor to the plywood store!
  24. the other thing is really I should have swivel plates. but I oily metal plates it is 😄
  25. I wonder if greased metal plates would work.. Well see
