  1. thanks for all that Colin. good to hear I'm not a million miles off an idea 😄
  2. I've been thinking about this for a while. for the same cost of taking to to someone that knows what they're doing, I _think_ I can get 95% of what I need with home made and cobbled together stuff. to do the whole thing I'm gonna need: flat floor corner weight scales string alignment kit camber gauges ride height measurement 70kg of ballast so my current plan is 2mm plywood shims and a decorating laser level to get "flatness" £20? 300kg parcel scales with ramps 4x£38 +plywood for ramps magnetic digital angle gauge attached to brake disk through wheel for camber £12 castor, can't do much about I'm putting together a string alignment kit from cut-down 2m carbon fibre poles (40ish quid) 3d printed (suprise, suprise) parts to mount on the number plate (should be able to get it to the height of the middle of the wheels and sitting on my oil cooler). these will be able to measure toe-in although I suspect I need something to increase the distance of the front-and-back-of-wheel measurements from 13" to increase accuracy. £50 tape measure for ride height 20kg of water in a fuel jug and kettlebells. so total cost around 250ish quid problems ramps might need to be big enough to roll car on and off. I can make them just with layers of plywood or print some parts. parcel scales might just be a massive faff and not accurate enough. is string alignment accurate enough for getting toe accurately enough? I'd think yes, but all the toe dimensions I've seen are down to 0.03 deg, which is 0.2mm over 13" of my wheel.... I don't know where to measure ride height from. The other stuff I don't know that I don't know. I've ordered one of the scales https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/354889360086 to test them before ordering 4 and I've made the pole hangers and little bobbins (getting the tension on these right was a nightmare) for the string kit and bought some nice yellow kevlar string. hopefully next week I can test the scales, see if they'll sit happily with 210kg of car sat on the rear wheels, cut down the poles to an appropriate length and then I'll order some plywood. any glaring problems?
  3. I can recommend just buying a trackday cage. you'll be very lucky to find one 2nd hand tho
  4. the other question is where to mount it. just velcro on the dash? I've been using a power bank for the gopro. maybe I'll stick with it. inline fuse sounds sensible. cheers chaps
  5. I have a 12v USB adapter under the dash (which is I guess, plumbed into the fuse box) I want to add power for my new Racebox Mini and a gopro. can I run a second usb adapter in parallel into the same fuse, or would I need to up the fuse. cheers! HNY
  6. I'm fairly sure my rad is full of pinholes. it leaks.... slowly.
  7. you're looking at about a fiver delivered for a couple of steel hex standoffs I wouldn't argue with cheaper, but I think it's not better. I don't want that much metal spike around my knees in a crash. (maybe I should say "yet another" metal spike) I couldn't find any M5 Nylon standoffs either and wouldn't want a plastic thread snapping off inside my knob. happy to hear any solutions tho J
  8. no, me neither. I thought I was gonna do myself a right whoopsie trying to reach my heater knob whilst in my 6-point harness. The original knob is about 25mm in length so I made myself a bigger knob. in fact, I've now got 2 knobs. a big (50mm, shown above) one and an uber (70mm) one for people with arms like a T-Rex. they're PETG and so they'll take the heat under the dash and they have a brass insert (just like the original) but they are much longer. black only, I could probably do you a custom 100mm one, but I reckon the 70mm looks massive in my hands. as usual, order on uberniche.co.uk any complaints about my copy to kennethwillliams@1970s-british-tv.com please. Merry Christmas J
  9. I'll give them a shout but I want a round wheel. mod26 or mod28 I think
  10. they were his old doors. so full of holes... 😄
  11. It was Ian Payne the P in PT sports cars. unfortunately he couldn't find it when he looked. and the wheel I bought was a 270, not 280 so that is going back (my mistake) so I'm still on the lookout for a 280/290mm wheel. J
  12. I made some brackets that attach the front of my 2nd hand doors (not westermans but very similar) to the rear windscreen hole. https://www.instagram.com/p/CoXMI7etdnV/ they don't pivot (but could be made to) and they're not as neat as they would be if they were inside the scuttle.
  13. (is there not a delete post button?)
  14. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154024137704 I ordered one of these
  15. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cvt6B7VIHRH/ not sure if this is 280 or 300. but it felt much better than a 260
  16. I see some Suede ones around but I'd imagine suede is not very nice if it gets wet
  17. well.. it's gonna be cheaper to just buy new 1.9" springs! https://dfaulknersprings.com/product-category/standard-springs/1-9-inch-id-standard-springs/
  18. BigCol's chest straps flapped around and annoyed the s**t out of BigCol, so I made these clips to replace his crocodile clips they lock down on caterham 3" straps and can slide up for adjustment. 2 pairs for £23 quid delivered. various colours available. order on https://uberniche.co.uk (shown here unclamped) cheers all J
  19. I don't currently have 800quid to spend on a quick rack 😞 it's only really when the car is sliding a lot that I struggle to get my hands round quickly enough. I did the drift champ thing with caterham and the cars had bigger wheels.
  20. Does anyone have one of these or have an experience of using one? I find that the 260 mil is quite tricky to catch when the car starts sliding as my hands in gloves tend to get all a bit tangled up with each other. I suspect the 300 mil wheel is actually just too big.
  21. I printed off some platform mockups to see if they'd fit and it looks like they will. I'll order some from protect and see
  22. yeah thatlooks close to the wishbone. there's a lot of thread at the bottom so...
  23. https://www.protechshocks.co.uk/collet-1-9-2-25-id-spring/ I wonder if that would work. I'll give them a call. thanks paul
  24. awesome. thanks Richard. I knew there'd be something like that, that my google-fu was failing. I guess I need the same for the rears as well. anyone know if they're available without the caterham tax?
