  1. #18 Thanks for your information. My car being 1996 has the level 1.9 MEMS ECU. Your 2000 car would have had MEMS 3 or possibly 2. Either way I believe it's a fairly straightforward upgrade for you to change to Jenveys and the Emerald ECU I think, from what I've been told (I'm certainly far from being knowledgable) that me having the earlier (non reprogramble) ECU unfortunately means it's far more complicated and expensive to go the same route as yourself. I would if I could!
  2. #16 My car is 1.6 Supersport non Cat with 138BHP. I think the 1.8 version is 142BHP? so not worth the money and effort, I'd need a later (EU3) 1.8 VVC complete engine with injectors, sensors, coil packs ECU, harness etc. I'm new to Caterhams, how much would something like that cost?
  3. #14 Thanks, I had come to that conclusion! I've purchased adjustable spring/shocks to fit over winter and living near to Northampton plan to visit to Northampton Motorsport for a flat floor set up.
  4. #9 #10 Thanks both for your time and information. Much appreciated
  5. #8 Thanks for your advice! As a thought, my car is running a MEMS 1.9 ECU originally developed in the late 80s and modified in 1994. Isn't it quite possible that 30 years later, technology has advanced to a stage where a 10% power increase and better drivability is quite feasible with better mapping and a modern processor in a new ECU?
  6. #6 I spoke originally with Karl from Emerald who advised that there would be little to gain without modifications to the head, race cams and throttle bodies. Kmaps did say theirs could be fitted but would need a new engine harness, sensors, injectors and coil packs. Estimated around £1,000 with about 10% increase in power and better throttle response. Are you aware of an aftermarket ECU that would give a worthwhile power gain on a standard Supersport engine (apart from vernier pulleys)?
  7. Thank you very much for your comprehensive advice. The head is £300 and the cam and blanking kit £500, so with the other bits plus the modifications I'm guessing £1,000+ I have the risk of buying the head and it not being sound but also the possibility as you mentioned of the Rover ECU not coping well. I think I'll look into (again) a Kmaps ECU conversion which is a similar cost. Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to respond!
  8. Many thanks for your offer of advice. 1. I'm looking at buying just a cylinder head, I don't know what else the VVC system is? 2. Unfortunately my car is 1996 and EU2 3. It's a standard 1.6 Supersport, non CAT, with vernier cams and and some " special exhaust " about 140BHP I believe so unlikely to get above 160BHP? 4. Sorry, I have no idea !
  9. Will a VVC big valve head from a 1.8 K series fit on my 1.6 Supersport? [2] If so, is there any benefit? Would it improve the performance?
  10. I looked at the replies to your post but only seemed to find information about refurbishment going back 6 or 7 years. Does anyone know if there is a valid club discount for 2022?
  11. I bought a Caterham one 2nd hand from here, I've not fitted it yet. Caterham said " just blank off the extra hose" I'm going to put a T piece in and connect it to the other. If it's a breather or vent I don't like the idea of just blinking it off. If you have the Rover Metro black plastic cap then you will need to drill new holes to fit the Caterham Aero cap
  12. I have one BRG, some rust but sound. Using phone and struggling to upload a photograph! Send email or WhatsApp and I'll send one. I'm in Bedford
  13. Are you having adjustable shocks and " fixed" springs or adjustable springs so you can vary the ride height? [2] Does a post 96 car come with "wide track suspension" as the norm or is an option? How do you tell the difference?
  14. #3 I'm interested in getting adjustable shock absorbers for my car. 1996 K series 1.6 Supersport 138bhp Road use only, possibly an occasional track day but main use is road only. How much is a set of 4 one way adjustable shocks?
  15. #9 Thanks for your advice, someone earlier also implied it wasn't an easy job so seems I wouldn't manage it in my medium/small vice. Luckily they are located in Wellingborough, only ½ hour from me.

  17. John, Many thanks, I'll get in contact. I get the impression that there was some change to the chassis in 1996 that may or may not impact on what shock absorbers were used and how they are mounted, mine was built early 1996 and first registered in May, de Dion, does anyone know?
  18. #4 Many thanks for the useful information!
  19. Thanks, when you say he will have them all do you mean they are different front/back top/bottom? Do you have the dimensions and can they be installed without a press?
  20. I'm planning on replacing these on my 1996 K series 1.6 Supersport. It has Bilstein shock absorbers. Does anyone have the dimensions of the bush required please? I'm assuming front and rear, top and bottom are all the same so I need to buy 8? Lastly, can they be installed in a vice, or with a hammer or is a hydraulic press required?
  21. I've searched previous topics and still don't know how to properly check my oil level. I believe that because of the Apollo tank I need to have the engine running to warm the oil and then check the oil level with it running or very soon after turning it off. What confuses me are the discussions regarding plastic and wire lipsticks and where on them the oil should come to? My dipstick is wire with a yellow plastic handle and a yellow plastic "marker" area on the end. Could someone please clarify where the oil level should be for this set up?
