  8. Well, it was still going great but blowing a bit of blue smoke out after ticking over a while, oh and a bit of oil leaking from the front left at the head gasket where the main oil gallery comes up from the block, oh yes, and the compression was down about 10psi on No1, head gsket was shot, but no coolant in oil or loss of same. Oil pressure is fine, runs all day long at 50psi. Mr Wilson pulled it apart, only 2 valve stem seals remained. A couple of valve guides installed, new stem seals, a smidging skimmed off the head to clean it up, valve seats cleaned up. Generally worked his magic and now...forgotten how good a Crossflow can be, its a little dream. Looking forward to a summer of fun. Well worth a couple of days at the health farm. Does anybody know where you can source the JR air filter replacemnt elements for the 40DCOE set up?
  9. Way back in about 2010 my 2007 sv150 was hailstoned upon in italy. It resulted in me needing a new bonnet and scuttle, the grp wings and nose withstood the 1" diameter hailstones... the ally didn't. I got a new scuttle and bonnet and changed out myself. The 24 forward facing rivets you mention were not drilled out. The scuttle came away from the main body section at the bottom of that bulkhead, it was stuck in with a silicon type sealant, definetly not adhesive. The new scuttle panel came complete with the bulkhead.
  10. Hi Chapman 101, it must be an age thing (us not the cars), i think my '81 sprint will go on the market soon ive had the thing for over 12 years. I guess its a similar spec to yours since after talking to bruce at Arch it appears that its essentially an s3 lotus since caterham didnt really change much until the long cockpit cars around 83/84. I must tell my pal who has driven mine a lot and is looking for one.
  11. I agree with Derek, I think im approaching "keep it in the garage" stage with my 81 crossflow, it took i a lot of water in traversing cod beck ford south of osmotherley on wednesday, however pulling the carpets and bench seats out for drying was a 2 minute job.
  12. I have one in the garage somewhere, shall i look it out, i think that it has a small scratch on the face though.
  13. I would imagine with an omex engine of 210HP in the mazda you'd have a latter day elan with the added reliability and additional oomph for modern day needs. The omex throttle bodies will give it a wonderful clatter.........close your eyes(?) you'll think your in a 7
  14. Always found stainless steel "Bigheads" and stainless steel tyraps as per the late and much missed "richard in france" (R i F) stick the bigheads on with sikaflex or similar.
  15. If you are attempting to make a more elegant wingstay fit, i did it on my 2007 SV150. I cut the 2 wingstays off on the straight section (radial to the wheel centre) the stays were 1/2" od pipe, can't remember the iď, 1/4 or 1/2" but got appropriate size mild steel rod from B&Q, bent it by hand to suit the contour i wanted, nice and close to the tyre! I brazed it into the cut off stays and "fine tuned" the contour insitu. I fitted some rubber petrol pipe over the part of the new stay that is under the wing and re-installed the wings using an acrylic adhesive and "bigheads". The wing was secured around the rubber hose (which provides a bit of anti vibration) with stainless steel tyraps, overall effect was an elegent solution with new stsys finished in matt black.
  16. Comma recommend G48 for the s1 elise (k series ) and G30 for other k series engined cars. After speaking to Comma G48 seemed to be the safest default product for the k series. I think the bottom line is .....use what you like, as long as its a decent quality product. Over a period of 5 years i've used both of the Comma products in my elise without any ill effects....so far. I'm just about to change the coolant and will be using Comma G48.

  18. My sump has had seen some action in its 36 years and although still oil tight, which is about the only componant that still is on the Crossflow, it looks decidedly sad having undergone major surgery several times. Does anybody have a nice, undamaged, unrepaired one stashed away anywhere?
  19. Used only twice it's still like new , £100 including uk postage

  23. take a wire to the inside of the light and connect it there, run the other end back into the engine compartment and find a nice clean spot to tie it down, if i remember right black is earth so you could tie it onto an existing black wire. check the wiring diag'. personally i've got rid of the side repeaters when i replaced the wings on both of my 7s, one with clams and one with cycles....a much more elegant solution, but if you really want a side repeater get a pair of the little fiat (500 or uno i think) and install them into the headlamp shell....no prob' with earth connection then and it looks ok.
