  1. Ahh yes... That was me I think. Thanks! Sunny Day, dry roads - warm enough for no woolly hat and no heater too - would have been rude not too. I did see a Saab 900 drop top in my mirror - wondered why the roof was up I do like a Saab. Shame they're no more. Dad used to rally a 96 in the late 70s. And I always wanted a 900 Turbo.

    VCT Sigma

Ive heard there was old stock around in 2014/15. Mine is a 2014 kit and is Ti-VCT. Makes sense for academy cars to all have the newer lump at that point.

    VCT Sigma

100% agree. Defo a VCT.Yes those ears at the rad end of the engine are the solenoids, with the plugs coming out, just as K7 said Also you said your car is a 2019? The last fixed cam cars were sold in 2015ish. Late 2015/16 is when CC switched over to the Ti-VCT after Ford stopped production of the older unit - emissions... It's also when they dropped roadsport and went over to 270/310 convention introduced the S & R option packs.
  4. Ha! Best not say what I actually do then!
  5. Sage advice indeed. And of course more power is really about safely pulling out into fast modern traffic, like the motorway, safely over-taking and so on. After all, these "old style cars" have "small weedy engines" by todays standards... Then there is special wrap on the headers, to reduce temperature under the bonnet and therefore the chance of fire. Oh and the beautiful billet ultra light flywheel? Better engine braking so much safer to slow the car in slippery conditions under control...without locking up - so safety is everywhere really... How am I doing? convincing?? or
  6. Similar time line to mine! Stuart is a busy man - a good sign! I've also ordered the F160, flywheel, clutch, header wraps, decat etc. I also added on the dual oil temp and pressure gauge. Hopefully also back in time for the fish & chip run! I knew this would be an expensive thread! I don't have any 310 bits to sell, but a kidney and both children will be on eBay soon. Will post a link if anyone has a tips on how to break this sort of thing to the better half, they'd be welcome!
  7. Just saw you leaving as I parked up my Seven. Was a nice day for it. Shame I wasn't a bit earlier otherwise I'd have said Hi!

  9. Wish I could get out of work that day - this looks a great event!
  10. Have a look in the trackday section above - there is a PDF of the low flying article from a while back with a step by step guide and how to remove and refit a roll bar... Track day/Track Day documents... /sites/default/files/images/users/4437/Apr%2016%20LF%20-%20fitting%20trackday%20rollover%20bar.pdf
  11. This just happened to me on a windy B road today. Scared the you know what out of me Had to dip the clutch and brake, the engine bounced of the rev limiter for a second then the pedal sprang back up. It was fine for the rest of the journey. Will check the points mentioned above this evening.
  12. Uhoh. This is getting dangerous financially. so I've been quoted £3200 inc vat and labour for the OEM 310 conversion including the CC light weight flywheel and a decat pipe. F160 plus the ultralight flywheel is the same again including the vat. Worth it? Quick, while the bank manager has his back turned....
  13. Hi Chris. How did the F160 spec compare to your start point - 310/152bhp trim? Sounds like you had the posh flywheel fitted before the F160? I'm in a 270 and will either covert to OEM 310 or go to Stuart for F160.
  14. Never thought of using my Bike track pump! Good idea! I use a halfords 12v compressor with a screw on connector which always leaks air when you undo it. So I over inflate then bleed it back down to what you need using an accurate hand held gauge and its cunning button.
  15. Oooh this could be a dangerous thread for me. I wait with interest!
  16. Interesting. Thanks Stu. Mine are all "looking" fine. But I may venture out onto the track this year. So thinking I may just replace them for piece of mind/safety before I do. My car was garaged stored with just 280miles under the wheels in 2016 on the CR500s till May 2021 when I bought it. They have no miles and little UV exposure in that time - perhaps they're OK. Perhaps not! The date stamps are mid 2014 and I've put 4k on them since.
  17. Some cracking pictures there... BaDum Tss... Joking aside, Thanks for sharing. My fronts are fine, but I'll wedge my head in the rear arch with a torch and have a good look at the inside of the rears. Appriciate the warning!
  18. Thanks gents. good to know you've run them past 7 years Stu. Mine also still feel good. I was out today. The temp was only about 4' but they still gripped well after the first few miles. Such a shame they're not made now! I've have to go to ZZS at some point, but...
  19. Yes! I was amazed, PPs sigma ultra light wheel is 2.5kg lighter than the caterham light fly wheel! About 4.7lg lighter than the standard Ford part!!!
  20. Hi all, My CR500s are about 7yrs old. Loads of tread on all 4 corners. But at what point do you think the rubber would start to be a bit hard and not as grippy as new? They're a great tyre, So not desperate to spend, but given they're the main thing between me and the hedges...
  21. Hi Andy. The other guys above are right! The TiVCT engines are mechanically identical up to 310 spec and can run 3 maps without mechanical mods. 125, 135 (AKA 270 map) and 140bhp. You just need a specialist with the right laptop to talk to the standard caterham ECU. Mine left the factory as a 125, but was mapped to 140BHP by GP Sevens when I bought it. I'm just about to go to full 310 spec. This, as others have said involves cams, oil catch can, air filter, and a few other odds and sods, and another new map to 152 to make use of the new cam profile. So GP Sevens are about to fit the full 152bhp/310 conversion for me, so this... https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/6493-engine-upgrade-kit-for-sigma-ta-to-152bhp-310.html I'm also fitting a light weight flywheel at the same time which markedly improves throttle response and makes it "feel" more powerful (it doesn't add BHP!) This isn't part of the standard 310 spec, but is a factory option. Premier Power offer an even lighter one... which is better, but more expensive. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/other/5335-flywheel-lightweight-for-sigma-variable-cam-engine.html?search_query=fly+wheel+sigma&results=310 I'm also probably going to add a cat bypass pipe (easy to put the cat back on for MOTs) for a tiny bit more low end puff, but mainly for more pops and bangs https://caterhamparts.co.uk/collectors-catalysts/3664-cat-bypass-pipe-4-1-sigma-side-exit-rhd-uk.html Thats, the 310 bit of your question. The R bit would be adding LSD, rear ARBs, adjustable suspension collars etc if you don't already have them. Then you'd be full 310R... Hope that helps. Kris
  22. I think @7 wonders is spot on...I think there was a low flying article reviewing a Premier Power conversion which says exactly this. From memory PP did quite a bit of development to try and get a worth while performance benefit AND fit TBs under bonnet. There work concluded that you're better off cutting the bonnet...
  23. Worth checking the main earth for the fuse box up under the dash. Certainly on my 2016 car, all the switches and dash stuff comes back to one shared common earth, which might explain a range of "herbbie" style characteristics. My fog light was doing all sorts of crazy stuff. Along with a few other things. My main earth turned out to be loose. Cleaned it, Tightened it down, and all sorted. Worth ruling out anyway!
  24. I don't know those places. But would be up for a morning meet at some point, rules and weather allowing! I'm based near Woking... so not far from the Surrey hills.
