  1. Thanks Ian Just bought a refreshed engine and off to get a gearbox from a local breakers this morning Bob
  2. Cheers David - knew about the starter but didn't realise about the air ducting...
  3. Ok David, thanks. Think I've sourced an engine and box now, and fingers crossed looks a straightforward enough job to do.
  4. Thanks David - why do you believe the 600 is better?
  5. Better than the nearly 18bhp from the 500cc currently in it!
  6. Not to transplant into the 7 😬 It's to go into our Fiat 500 (33% more power ) Bit of a long shot advertising on here but you never know... Must be a 650cc aircooled model ( not a Bis ) and in good running order. A full running donor car is fine. Bob
  7. Does sound like fuel pump or coil... If its a coil it might start ok once it's all cooled down (problem will reoccur as soon as warmed up).
  8. The ATB makes an enormous difference I had lots of oil surge problems on track (BHGP a particular killer) with R888s that led to eaten diffs and have since had the thing baffled to within an inch (more like a mm) of its life, a new jigsaw CW&P, near bearings etc. and so far touch wood all has been good. The advice I received was that the oil surge issue would have been the same with an English so my advice would be get the Ital axle properly sorted whilst having the ATB fitted. Bob
  9. Redline will know... and also stock stiffer springs that they know work well (and they do 😬 )
  10. Looked very nice - think the driver smiled at us in our little '66 Fiat 500
  11. Shad - I agree with you there. I couldn't believe how fast I was coming up on a couple of the cars, and mine on paper was probably the slowest car in the group. Given how fast the proper track cars were coming up on me in the drier sessions I was wondering how scary the difference must be to the slowest guys on the track..
  12. Well, it was a bit damp on track but not cold, and loads of fun 😬. The torquey old xflow seems to suit those conditions and I wasn't going much quicker when the track was virtually dry. Nice to see such good behaviour on track too Bob
  13. Did the Indy in horrid weather last year and it was actually a lot of fun on track. Just a bit miserable between sessions... Bob
  14. Normally get mine from Rimmer Bros if that's any use?
  15. This may be wishful thinking but check the handbrake cable isn't knocking anything near the wheel. Mine started doing this and it was loud enough for me to worry about something more serious.
  16. Mine snapped off about 10 years ago (a bit too much enthusiasm on our wibbly wobbly Kent roads I think). I preferred the look without it so bought a can of Tyre Weld and a stick on rear numberplate. The numberplate light bolts in where the spare wheel bolt was and I haven't looked back since

Like Aeroscreens I have sprinted my Live Axle car successfully with standard brakes and M1144 pads. They're not the last work in stopping power but plenty good enough to lock the fronts if you apply enough pressure. Personally the feel they provide is perfect for me. With the rear axle I started sprinting with an open diff and then fitted an ATB. The difference it times wasn't very big but the difference in the way the car felt and the ease with which it could be controlled at the limit was huge. I love my ATB 😬. Worth checking the dampers and the corner weights (if you have adjustable platforms) as both can make a big difference to the handling and braking performance.
  18. Andy - they are push fit connectors... Jonty - interesting thought - I'll look into that. Aeroscreens - they are three individual push fit connectors (only two of which keep working loose). A block connector might just do it - good link Ian - it does sound a bit of a bodge fix (so very me then 😬) but if I can find a more elegant solution first I will. Cheers for the suggestion. Bob
  19. Has anyone else had this and devised a better solution than simply "tighten the connectors"? Thing is the connectors are already really very tight and there's enough slack in the wires that it isn't being pulled somehow when the engine runs. It's the charging circuit so a pain... (it obviously suffers from vibration down there hence previous needs to loctite the mounting bolts then subsequently reinforcing the bracket after it cracked...)
  20. Surprisingly mine doesn't leak either, and since going to 3D ignition it doesn't breathe as heavily on track either (no idea why). I'd still recommend a catch tank for track work though.
  21. Gave up with the Banner and switched to Powervamp a few years ago - one of my better decisions
  22. Just a word of caution, I nearly spun on my own oil on a damp roundabout years ago from what seemed a smallish leak from the rear main oil seal...
  23. I'm very happy with the GAZ adjustables (and adjustable platforms) on my LA Supersprint. They've been on for a few years now, including successful sprints, trackdays and road use.
  24. Don't know if the suspension is the same but my old '89 CRX had two massive bushes supporting the rear suspension that eventually became shot resulting in loose, wobbly handling and occasionally unwanted rear-steer effects. Just replacing these immediately transformed the car and reminded me why I bought it in the first place. Get the car on some ramps and visually check all the bushes. I'd start with these and, if they look ok, move onto the dampers. Whether its worth the expense though...
