  1. Thanks for the advice - I'll have a prod around tonight! Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  2. Gary - fantastic (I'm sure I can paint it!) How much do you want for it (new from Caterham is £38+VAT) - and is it postable? Unless you live in Kent, in which case I could come and get it) Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  3. Being a bit of an imbecile with electrics, where'd the best place to start? Under the dash, at the rear lights, engine bay...? Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  4. Now the cold weather has returned it seems to have brought with it a couple of electrical faults on my 92 Live Axle xflow. Can anyone help with this?: The indicators have gone a bit funny at the drivers side rear: If I just use the indicators then the front flashes double speed, no rear. If I then brake, the front indicator slows to less thatn half speed, again no rear. If the lights are on as well as the brakes then the Indicators do as above but if the brakes are on the brake light pulses in time. The heated front screen seems to have stopped working - I'm hoping this is just a fuse but having bought the car 2nd hand I don't know where the fusebox is - can someone tell me before I start poking around? 5. Does anyone have a rear number plate / spare wheel cradle, complete with number plate light? In an ideal world, a red one would be great. (for the full story, see the "Bloody Rabbits" thread in ChitChat) Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  6. I think I've mentioned this before, but my 1992 1700 Supersprint, with a fresh engine fitted circa 2000 miles ago, was roling road tested 3 or 4 weeks ago at 120bhp at the wheels. The nice man who tested it said this would equate to 135-140 bhp at the flywheel, which sounded pretty close to Caterham's claims. The engine was built by Steve Parker Racing to standard supersprint spec. Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  7. W*******d (asterisks?) Wow! that's clever! Edited by - bstark on 25 Sep 2001 14:23:18
  8. FWIW my 'standard' 1700cc xflow supersprint was rolling road tuned two weeks ago and with minor tweaks to the ignition etc. gave 120BHP at 5800rpm at the wheels - indicating 130-135bhp at the flywheel which doesn't sound far off Caterham's claims... Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer

    x-flow problem

If you have a condenser fitted to the ignition system then it could be that - when it went on one of my previous cars it would start and idle OK but the engine had no power and drive extremely roughly (much worse the more load you attempted to put on it) before cutting out after about 100 metres. Easiest way of checking this is seeing if you are getting a nice clean white spark. Bob Stark Supersprint first-timer
  10. I was advised to use 6000rpm as a normal limit for my Steve Parker 1700 xflow - but was told 6500rpm would be safe occasionally if I needed the revs on a track day cool.gif Having said that, I lose power at about 5200rpm (shame, as it flies up to that) as the pesky garage who fitted the engine before I bought it used the same carbs from the old 1600 xflow previously fitted - complete with the same jets. Rolling road tune at the weekend to sort that one out...
  11. Thanks Steve, I got the information from Foyle's (World's biggest bookstore etc.) who reckon they can get it for me in 7 to 10 days for £22.50 + £2.95 p&p If you want to contact them try sales@wgfoyle.co.uk
  12. Is this the same book as: Lotus Seven: Preparation, Restoration and Maintenance, by Anthony Wheale, hardback, ISBN 185532153X which is the only one I can find? If not, does anyone know if this book would also cover a live axle xflow, or can anyone recommend the book? I'd like to do more work on the car myself but am fearful of causing damage by jacking in the wrong place etc.
  13. Only a small suggestion, but try pumping the clutch fully a couple of times in neutral before trying reverse (solves a similar problem in my CRX)
  14. I'm after an FIA rollbar for my 1992 Live Axle Supersprint, that will fit under the standard (increased visibility)hood. If you also have a boot cover to suit then that would be fantastic!
