  1. Seconded Ian's comments - it takes about 20 mins of driving before my oil gets up to temp (~80 degrees) Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  2. Ooops. My mistake . Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  3. I don't think oil will spew out if you've left the car 'long enough' (a couple of hours?) after running. Assuming you haven't fitted a one way valve to stop oil draining back into the sump. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  4. There's silicon gasket between the two so that's probably keeping them together.... Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  5. Wiring all sounds right. The starter motor signal wire is a separate one (brown/red) that I left off at first so excluding a mechanical issue which sounds most likely, it's only that wire which would cause any permanent engagement/turning over. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  6. Lurking? 387 posts and counting 😬 Let me know whether you need any another car to compare against (I was going to write help, but I'm not sure how much of that I'd be able to offer ). Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary

    7 fuel

I'm not an expert in any sense. I can believe that Optimax will offer better additives to help clean etc. the engine internals and may offer slightly better burning etc. However, as the K doesn't have a knock sensor, what I would have thought would be the main advantage (i.e. Octane levels) won't make a lot of difference as the timing is going to stay exactly the same as if you put Tesco Value petrol in it. Assuming the Alfa has a knock sensor, that might explain why you see a bigger difference. Personally, I always use Optimax in my Boxster (for a small performance gain) and in my 7 (for what I believe will be better engine cleaning). [People who know what they are talking about - feel free to contradict everything I've said] Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  8. PRJ, If it helps, I might be able to pop round some time in my 2004 Academy car (sorry!) and see if any obvious differences/problems can be spotted. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  9. I found this as well...and spent many an hour undoing everything, re-torquing it and generally worried that I'd done something wrong. Got the steering in, and everything was fine when turned from the wheel. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  10. It's quite easy for the knurled cap to come undone, given the spinning action of everything!!! Hopefully it's just this hanging off (although I wouldn't expect it to last very long). As Steve says, replacing the speedo drive shaft is not incredible easy with the box in. I can imagine that getting that metal cap off is a right pain in the a**e. Sorry ! 11. You always get the additional questions - no idea why they don't ask them on the main form. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  12. Peter, Glad that you esacped. Where are you based? I'm in Caterham but my family/friends live in Weybridge so I'm over that way quite a lot. Hopefully you'll fix the problem, only for it to reoccur as I'm about to overtake you 😬 Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  13. My experiences (of Gillingham) were: 1.5 weeks after form sent in to get back 'additional' questions. 2 weeks after sending this back before getting a postcard from Gillingham asking to arrange an appointment. Quickest appointment was either 'tomorrow', or 7 weeks. So around 10 weeks in total; this was around 2 months ago. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  14. Seconded - do it now!!!! Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary

    Apollo

Pete, The Apollo installation is now part of the Assembly Guide - there's an electronic (PDF) version downloadable from here. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  16. Sounds like the immobiliser to me. Does the fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition to 2? I can't remember whether the immobiliser stops this or not (I think it does) and this can cause the car to run intermittently for a couple of starts as there isn't enough fuel around. I now disarm the immobiliser before turning the ignition key, turn ignition to 2 and let fuel pump prime, then start. Good luck! Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  17. I was after a set of those Steve, but given that you probably called the same stores as I would have - where did you finally find a set? Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary Edited by - CharlesElliott on 23 Dec 2003 14:11:09
  18. Does the gauge drop back if you disconnect the wires from the water rail? Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  19. Oz7, Caterham Midlands do a set of nylon nuts/bolts for the rear wings. £10 a bag, sufficient for both wings (and replacements if you don't use every mounting!) Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  20. A web search suggests Champion RJ12YC. Resistor plug, .035 gap, 14mm, 3/8" reach, 13/16" hex head, standard projected core nose, copper core design. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  21. Tim, Go back and read my diary again, and properly this time 😬 😬 They all do that Sir. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  22. Oz7, YHM. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  23. Jim, I assume that you know you can clear lenses from Vehicle Wiring Products? Or are you planning something more unusual..... Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  24. I think Guy means near the bulkhead. I had a noise on mine and it was the grubscrew not being tight enough - it needs to be *really* tight; and then some. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
  25. I'm using 25mm steel P clips from vehicle wiring products with the rubber protection removed - seem to fit fine. Charles --- My Caterham Academy 2004 Diary
