  1. Try Rimmer Bros ad Moss Motors for TR-7 4speed https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-TKC558 https://mossmotors.com/072-170-axle-shaft
  2. Servicing my Ital axle is on my to-do list as well. Did you have to use a puller to remove the bearing from the housing? Is the bearing tack welded to the shaft? Is the hub key 1/4" wide? Do the Ital and Marina share the same seals? Thanks
  3. See if the Morgan 4/4 MC is it PN BRH013 https://mogparts.net/product/brake-master-cylinder-4-4-dual-line-system-1978-7-93-8-1978-7-93-4-1985-7-93 https://mogparts.net/product/master-cylinder-service-kit-for-brh013
  4. No myth. Method is used to bleed motorcycle front MCs.
  5. To piggyback on the subject... Does anyone know the make of the seats that came on the BDRs in the 80s to early 90s? I have the black velour with head rests I bought as spares, so I don't know which car they came off of. I have them in my 96 S3 now. See them on this link: http://www.trevorlewincars.com/CaterhamBDR.html not my car Stonking gorgeous car
  6. If it helps, My Two Gates Minilite repros 6x13 wt= 11.56 lbs
  7. After some difficulty getting an email through to Arch (I keep ending up in the spam) the consensus was they could possibly make a bonnet with filter hole, but it would be better to do myself to reduce error. The bubble used in the last version of "GT" offered is NLA. I can only assume the 68-69 scoop is long gone as I haven't seen any offered by Cat, not since the initial supply of Lotus spares dried up in early 70s. I gathered Arch is able to produce a plain bonnet, but thats it. A for the redundant post, yea, I'm just annoying like that. I could have bumped the old one if I had looked.
  8. UPDATE: I did get a scoop. I will still be interested in others as well. Original post: I would like to buy, borrow, or obtain 3D mapping of, an original air scoop used on the bonnets of 1968- 69 Lotus Seven series 3 with downdraft carburetor. Not any off the shelf air scoop will do. The scoops used on sevens need to have a tapered point at rear and unequal length sides to fit the bonnet curvature properly. Its a very difficult item to find new made by anyone.
  9. The 7, regardless of make, being so light, and all being individually different, would have to be dialed in individually. These cars are so sensitive that another's damper, spring and rubber formula wouldn't work the same on a different car with different suspension rubber compounds, weight distributions, etc. Its very individual. Its very difficult to develop any damper that can be "sold" as a universal road damper. Combinations of dampers, settings and various combos of springs and tyres and wheels that are reported to be suitable. I would be inclined to work with the brand that can give individual support based on your specific car. I wish there were a matrix table of data for choosing spring rates by corner weigh, etc, then add driver weight and all else. If anyone had put together such a study for the benefit of the retail consumer, I only know of Meteor. I would work with them exclusively. If I weigh the number of positive reports, I would say the bulk of them go to Meteor. Having said all that, there is probably some little long forgotten English damper that would be perfect if we only knew what it was... SPAX? No, It wouldn't be that. What did Chapman say? Light springs and stiff shocks? Or light shocks and stiff springs?
  10. Keeping bare aluminium sparkling | Caterham and Lotus Seven Club (caterhamlotus7.club) /forum/techtalk/keeping-bare-aluminium-sparkling
  11. There was someone using Vistal with scotch brite pads for a brushed look. I cant get it in the states, but I would like to try it.
  12. Yes, Cat had "GT" downdrafts on the 80s. that is the bonnet I want. But Im not interested in a bubble or budge. Only the scoop. Because its cool. I wonder why Cat didn't continue with them? Yes, an email from me is very likely to go to SPAM .
  13. I sent an email asking about producing a plain bonnet with Downdraft hole, and Lotus spec bonnet, etc. No reply in over a week. I recently found a thread written by someone who had a similar project, ordering a bonnet for a Lotus. The shop doing the work didn't test fit the hood before paint and finishing. The bonnet was 20mm short, or the Lotus was long. If I were Arch, I would have learned to not supply panels for Lotuses. I made it clear that my chasis was 90s, and provided the arch stamp. But I also mention I was interested in obtaining Lotus spec parts as well. Quagmire?
  14. Only third on top. these things tend to not be available in the proper size or proportion. The rear tip must be a point. I will only use the scoop that fits the bonnet curvature. I have noticed the use of two different scoops on the Lotuses. When Caterham relaunched the S3, did they have the Downdraft? Or did they go straight for the DCOEs?
  15. Thank you, I have seen this before and am passing. I would have to completely strip it for bare alu and then the bludge would be replaced, eventually. I will leave it for someone who it is perfect for.
  16. Wanting to do a downdraft conversion with a correct Lotus bonnet air scoop. I am willing to buy one or I will pay for your trouble if you can get a 3D model file in a format a 3D printer or CNC machine can use. Not interested in making and selling these, just trying to get one, as only around 350 S3 cars were made and many of those were probably converted to DCOEs. It is probably much more realistic to gat a 3D file than find one someone is willing to let go of. The holy grail would be a Lotus nose and S3 bare bonnet with scoop Thank you
  17. Thanks Ian, Ill look That bonnet is painted red, inside and out with a closed bubble bulge. It would be too much work to get to the bare alu and yellow scoop I want. I will leave it for someone it is perfect for.
  18. I wish to reproduce a '68 S3 with a downdraft 32 DFM carburetor (or better) and a period correct air scoop. I could use a plain bonnet as well. I can cut the hole. Does anyone know which intake manifold to get to ensure the proper locating of the carb? Undecided still on which carb to get. I understand that the Ford manifold doesn't fit the Webber. 1996 Cat Live axle 1600 AX Kent "Sprint" spec. It begins with the scoop... Any help for this project is welcome Thanks
  19. AFAIK, After the introduction of the Long Cockpit (LC), the LC became standard build of the Universal Chassis. Most cars going forward, live axle and De Dion, were LC. The LC became possible with the introduction of the Ital live axle, that had a shorter input housing clearance than the Ford Escort axles and allowed the rear seat bulkhead to be spaced back 2 inches. Soon afterward the DeDion was built on the LC. From that point, the short cockpit was available but only as a special order live axle. Therefore, most chassis built after 1990 (should) be LC. At your height, OP, a LC would be fine even in bench seats. For me, at 5'7" I needed to install sliding seats, from an 85, I believe, that are about 4" thick and I still have to slide them 2" forward. I wish I had a SC. But I get a lot of better design with the LC, like a front mounted radiator and gearbox mount options. Yes, my 96 powder coat is crap and the passenger foot well is short. I think it would be simple to fab an extension if I relocated the battery.
  20. Thanks Nigel. A minor correction tho.. The T9 box is a 2.8 V6 5 spd. The first motion shaft and gear set were changed out to a short first motion shaft. It still retains the bulbous V6 layshaft bearing. Yes I have the Escort box as supplied by Caterham with the Xflows on Classic live axles. I plan to do plenty of driving at 112 K/hr. RPMs over 5K on 185, 75 R13s isn't how I want to treat my motor. So, an overdrive is very welcome. My options with this T9 seem to be, Rebuild the box with a long 1st motion shaft (missing) and use the spacer or Grind out the area out of the b/h for the layshaft or The set might work as is with the spacer and the shaft partially in the spigot bearing. This is still a possibility if the face of the spigot stands 1" proud of the B/H face. But if the spigot is flush with B/H, there is maybe .20" of support with the spacer. I haven't taken the Escort box off to find out. Another thing I don't yet know is if I did cut the B/H, if the shaft spline area and shaft support tube are correct length? Hacksaw! Thank you, Scott
  21. The performance of a snappy EV would have the magazine reviewers gushing its praises. It would sell well to the higher end market. If Cat can assemble them fast enough. This EV thing is going to happen.
  22. Hello, Im sure its been covered before, Right hand drive cable clutch 1996 Scholarship 1600 XFlow live axle. In my box of parts I have Ztec flywheel, Ford 928M 6398 CB, lightened I believe. Shall I use this? I wont need to buy those 1X23x190mm discs from Burton. I could use standard 2.0 discs, right? I have a 1x23x 190mm disc for Xflow/5spd Will the larger flywheel affect the Xflow starter tooth mesh and position? I have a cast iron bell housing Ford 71887505AC and ali Ford D12A-6394-AD bellhousing, and forks for both. I have the 1" ali spacer with V6 layshaft bearing relief. I have a 2.8 V6 T9 box with 7" input shaft (yes, previous owner switched the gearset with a 4 cylinder into a V6 box). I could be really lucky if the set was uprated with a close ratio kit, but I don't know that yet. So now, as I understand it, I cant use the ali spacer because that would space the input shaft out of the pilot, and I cant fit the box to any of my bells because none are for V6. Shall I cut out a layshaft relief in the bell I use? Thanks
  23. OP, I would replace every bush you can while the section is apart. Remember to do final tightening while the car is on the ground, or on a lift, at its riding stance. This is because when tight, the bush center core sleeves are tightened between the brackets so the bonded centers resist movement while the outer rotates. Tightening the links in their neutral position, not hanging, will ensure the bushes aren't being twisted100% of the time. If you will PM me, we will exchange emails and I will scan and send you all the info I have on bush part numbers and locations. I share the same views on not using bush compounds of polyurethanes or anything other than the soft rubber specified by Caterham, which predates back to Lotus. Much cheaper to replace worn bushes than repair cracked chassis. This includes avoiding the use of rose joints on Live Axle cars. On the subject, Is there a OEM source for those live axle bushes? From another BL car?
