  1. Just found a Pistonheads forum comment from somebody with a 99 S3 running 195 55 15 and they fit the cycle wings. Are all wing stays the same has to be the question?
  2. Thinking of changing all five tyres. Currently 195 45 R15 with two Toyo Proxes and two Avons. Going to get all Toyo, but also thinking of going 195 55 R15. Reason being mainly touring, extra ground clearance, and will also make speedo more accurate! 195 55 R15 will be very close in rolling distance to 195 70 13 , which were probably on the car when built (1998). Rears will fit no problem, but fronts look like they will be very tight in the cycle wings. Anybody using this size, or are there different length wing stays?
  3. Hi. Ues this website for its size calculations. Works really well. http://www.willtheyfit.com/
  4. Tried to paste from facebook to here but does not really work. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151686505379?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT These are the ebay ones that I have just ordered. ...
  5. Now on order from ebay. Thanks.
  6. Thanks. I knew I had seen it somewhere, hence the search through the archive, did not realise it was on facebook.
  7. Just been searching the archive for posts on LED bulbs for the gauge's. The bulb type is BA9 (9mm bayonet) in both my small gauges and the speedo and tacho. From previous posts it looks like the 6 LED bulbs will be good for the smaller ones and 9 LED for the speedo and tacho. But I cannot find a stockist! Previous posts suggest UltraLED or Bulbs Direct, but on these websites I can only find either red BA9 LED bulbs or 24volt bulbs. Anybody know of a good supply for white BA9 bulbs with 6 and 9 LEDs?
  8. Hmm. No sign of a leak, maybe just leave it alone. Front half of the boot floor is plywood and held in place with a few self tappers. The rear half is alloy and seems to be riveted in place , is that normal?
  9. Ahh. Jacking where? I had the jack under the A frame.
  10. Just looked at the diff with a view to checking the level. The filler/level plug is very close to the DeDion tube. Is there an easy way to check the level, or is this just another get on with it job!
  11. Hi. Am I right in assuming that the fuel pmp is in the right hand side of the tank, and impossible to remove with the tank in situ? Also presume the other hose which disappears over the top of the tank is a fuel return line? Next question. If I fit a facet fuel pump in the fuel hose will this be able to draw fuel through the intank pump if that should fail ? i.e get you home if touring and the main pump fails. Work on a carb MG with SU pump but will it here?
  12. Thats the ones. Had mine apart today. Brian
  13. Hi. Looking for various spares for 1997 K series 1.6. Maybe somebody has these in the garage surplus to requirements after upgrade? Clutch cable, Throttle cable, coolant hoses, throttle pos sensor, alternator, any brake hoses, bulbs (doubt if there is a kit so unless somebody has already done it will remove lenses and see what is inside!). Also still looking for a tunnel bag.
  14. Now modified. Rubber pad removed and thin rubber strip put in its place. Gap between plate and sump in now about 2mm which is less than the sump fin depth. So any stone/debris that gets in the gap should fit up into the fins and no puncture the sump in a grounding. Also found that the front mounting covered the chassis cruciform area so that I could not easily jack the front of the car. Now cut a deep U shape in the centre front of the plate, both allows access to jack the car and also gives a cooling air flow through to the sump fins. Now fitted again and seems to work ok. Already has several scratches from speed bumps encountered at the weekend.
  15. Ahh. I had not thought of getting stones in between the guard and the sump. That is a very good point. I will look at a simple solution as you suggested. It does reduce ground clearance by about 1cm.
  16. Thanks for photo link. Photo now added to original post. I am sure a lot of people will think "just added weight" but for touring it seems sensible to me.
  17. Just fitted a 2mm alloy plate sump guard or skidplate. Not for Rally Cross! But should protect the vertical front face of the sump from road debris, and act as a sacrificial surface for the bottom of the sump over speed bumps/ferry ramps etc. Front edge is on rubber mounted U bolts to the chassis. The rear is bent up between rear of sump and front of gearbox then Tie Wrapped to chassis. Rubber strip between guard and sump at the rear to maintain an air gap and prevent any vibes. Tie wrap is heavy duty reusable, and the whole thing can be removed in five minutes. Not sure if I should have put a row of cooling air holes in the front though? Photo added.
  18. Hi. Looking for an oil pressure sender unit for my 1.6 K series (pre 1998). Anybody have one in the draw after a mechanical gauge fit?
  19. Wheres the best place to get the kit of parts?
  20. Hi. Noticed today that my oil pressure sender has been hit , stone maybe, and has a hole in the casing. Still working okay though so have filled the hole with silicon sealant for now. There seem to be different senders available, how do I know which I need? I thought there was a recent post on this but cannot find it.
  21. i have just been on eBay looking at a standard tunnel bag, secondhand and already at £40 with four days to go on an auction. SBFS will sell me a new one for £50!! Sometimes eBay brings on strange behaviour!, if you have a tunnel bag you do not use, I would love to buy it at a reasonable price?
  22. There is one bolt through both pedals, long thread and nut showing in lower picture. Upper picture shows a socket on the head of that bolt. I think the "cap head" is just the strengthening boss around the rear , redundant, holes.
