  1. Alway use 16psi cold. All types of tyre. It gives a good balance between a responsive car and one that has some deflection in the tyre. No testing or analysis ever done other than by changing pressures up or down over 15 years of competition. I always end up back on 16psi
  2. Someone may prove me wrong but given there is not much time to get anything warm through the run and certainly not before the run I will take width/contact patch size every time. You can not compare class start times as lower power cars as just som much easier to get off the line. Then ask Shaun about getting a Busa off the line.
  3. Clear SV screen in stock ! :-)
  4. Mel Williams. Avon ZZR and ZZS, Kumho, Yokohama and Toyo. I have 2 brand new ZZS 215 sitting here ready to go as they arrived instead of the 245 for the Ecoboost. 07811269500
  5. Robert. You had better bring a big notepad and some sandwiches tomorrow. It's going to be a long day
  6. I had to change the pads on a customer 620 a couple of weeks ago. I was not aware of this thread until a moment ago. I used the Torx socket from Halfords Pro set. Was useless on the standard length ratchet and a pro spec air gun. Didn't touch the tightness of the bolt. I had to resort to a 2ft breaker bar and the Halfords torx. 1/4 turn at a time with customer watching every step. I did this lowly so as not to over stress or heat the bolt up to much. Slow but very successful with the extended leverage. I can not believe this is assembled in this way from new. I ran a tap and thread cleaner down each bolt and into the upright. Removed a very very small amount of metal and it all went back together as you would expect. Just a little care when assembling would save everyone the hassle.
  7. Could we please have the Club's Entry list for an event posted on Blatchat or sent in an email prior to an event please. It was not until after the event on the scoresheet that I realized I had been competing against Simon Jenks. I am not saying I would have won but I certainly would not have backed off up Cedar Straight(Not) . Given there was only 4/100th difference it was probably important. I knew Simon was registered but there was no mention on here or in the Loton Entry that he was in Class 7. Nigel always lets us know on here as he is competing in many different series. I am also beginning to wonder if someone is running in our champs that they should run in class with us so that conditions are equal - or as close as possible. At Loton I would have had the benefit of a slightly drier track but it could swing all ways as we all know. I am more than happy to take the rough with the smooth within our own Classes weather wise but seems wrong when there could be 1.5hrs between those in other champs.
  8. Hi Croc I don't understand the technical electronics side of CAN but I use the AIM MXS logger dash and AIM Smarty Cam which has its own GPS and CAN interface. The only display on the car is the MXS and it has all data from the MBE 9A9 available, I can set the sample rate for each channel. Its way fast enough to cope with anything. Just as fast as EasiMap - effectively live data. Certainly not delayed. Do you have something else going on? Interestingly I have been working with SBD/MBE and AIM and we have just created a new CAN protocol which AIM Italy will be adding to the Race Studio software in order to set up all MBE CAN ECU interface. No longer will there be a need to select your ECU be it 9A4 or 9A9 etc - just MBE and it will all work. EasiMap has a new method of setting up the can data stream. We will have a chip file that will be available to copy and paste/merge with your map on the ECU. This will mean the ECU is sending out the same info that the AIM is expecting to receive.
  9. You can now set up the exact data you want to see out of the MBE. Easimap always had this function but it was not as simple to set up. The new method has a simple twin window as seen in other software. Everything that is seen by the ECU is listed on the left and you simply drag what you want to send over CAN to the right hand window. You save this "setup" to the map. In the same set of windows it shows the exact CAN protocol information at the bottom of the screen. This can then be used for the Datalogger software to be set up so that it understands the CAN message. I suspect not as you can not write to the map or save the map on the standard Caterham MBE. This is of course a Caterham decision not MBE. I think if the ECU had Caterham written all over them then MBE would get less of a bashing from everyone. Not that this is happening in this instance.
  10. My set of Intercomp scales - light use over the past 7 years. My own car and some other locals plus one weigh in day. They are the Kart pads so much smaller physically. Perfect for a 7 as they take up to 200kg each. £600.00
  11. Glad to see you have been playing with the damping Mark :-)
  12. Well I have the clear ones on the shelf. With you Monday!
  13. If Marc is missing some of the history I know where it spent some of its time - unfortunately it was when it was un loved and rarely driven.
  14. YHM - FYI they are "very" special tools - I had most types of tool and I am forever buying and making even more tools with every new damper I service! I doubt your man will have the specialist kit. YHM
  15. I only made the comment as I thought Stuart had stopped doing the upgrades. It was a cryptic comment as I am in the midst of fitting the EcoBoost to a car and am offering the upgrade packages to customers - see my advert in this months Low Flying. Power for £ there is no comparison with a stock engine. 225bhp and 268lbft Upgrade the turbo only and its 300bhp and 308lbft. Stock 1.6 EcoBost which is the same block as the Sigma! Anyway I will let this continue now as a Sigma thread.
  16. The spring rates may be a little heavy but if they are Nitron spec they are generally not to far from what I would specify. What I would almost certainly say needs looking at is the valving. This will be very significantly different to my own. If you email me Tom I will let you have all the info needed. I would suggest thy came to me for service but thats not really going to happen from the US is it? They will also certainly need that service to regain optimum performance. Maybe we can get the US Nitron agent to rebuild and service them to my spec? Under some sort of licence? Any way message me.
  17. You need Turbo power ! :-) Ecoboost all the way !!
  18. Janspeed designed the VHPD head and engine in the first place is my understanding. Jason Langan was one of the 2 guys who did the work and then Rover deleted all the metal bits and swapped them for plastic such as the dowels. Jason still works out of the Janspeed premises in Salisbury. Just the man for the K series service and rebuild.
  19. I have used it for the last 5 years and will be refilling the Busa after a rebuild with exactly the same stuff I took out. I recovered approx 80% of the coolant and it looks just like the new stuff in the bottle.
  20. As many will know I was one of the first to use and sell LiFePo4 batteries back at the end of 2010. I did quite a bit of testing and development trying to find comparable cranking power. Its not a simple comparrison and I found that I had to more than double the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) figure when converting to PCA (Pulse Cranking Amps). The main issue is that the Lithium has a flat line of power delivery where the regular battery has an initial spike which I feel is important. That spike gets the crank turning - like towing a lorry as a strong man. Its the start that takes the most effort, once rolling it is far easier. In the end although they worked for customers using the car for regular longer journeys they did not work for me. In competition we had to many engine starts for time running at anything more than tickover. Last year i fitted the Varley http://www.meteormotorsport.com/shop/caterham/batteries-electronics/varley-lithium-li5-battery/ It has been far more successful than any other type or model. However for my use it still struggles over a double weekend or double drive. I am 100% certain that would not be the case for others doing other type of work. At a hillclimb or sprint you may start the engine 5 or 6 times between leaving the pits and taking a run. x 4 or 5 runs a day and perhaps x 2 drivers. It can not cope and needs a jump. Lets face it I would have done less than 5 minutes running at full revs for all those starts. It is however a match for my PC680 Odyssey in terms of power. Others have not come close. Carstens unit is double the Ah so that looks very interesting and it looks great. My battery is just fixed using 3M Dyloc HD velcro. What is the PCA of Carsten's?
  21. Overkill. IMHO The lightweight Elite IL200 is a much better option on the K Series. I used one for 7 years perfectly fine and excellent performance. Very light change compared to the Sadev. Call me if you want any more info about installing one. I can provide a mounting bracket that sits on the existing gearbox mount and the Elite box of course. All for half the cost of the Sadev also. That would then pay for paddle shift. Then you could do........... You see where this ends up ! My number is on the website.
  22. Ah Ok sorry. Yes they are the full 3 " FIA harness with QR. Out of date. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/seatbelts-harnesses/4175-seatbelt-4-point-quick-release-black-rh.html Not quite the same as they have changed over the years a little. email is best for me. simon@meteormotorsport.com
