tangomikeromeo
1.8 K series that was VVC before receiving the K06 treatment from @Oilyhands. (Removal of VVC mechanism, hotter cams, throttle bodies and ECU)Taken out of hibernation two weekends ago, started first time, idled fine, been out twice for gentle blats to reacquaint and all good. Changed the spark plugs, oil & filter and general spanner check pre MOT and now have a hiccup at idle. Starting was difficult after service but with a bit of throttle got going with a cough and splutter, revs at idle fluctuated until settling back to idle normally but with a hiccup. New plugs are NGK BCP7ES Nothing else deliberately touched.TPS reset tried to no effect. Hiccup interval ranges from 4 to 20+ seconds. Seeking advice before I attempt to drive in case I do more harm. Any good ideas anyone?
TomB
Do you have an IACV? Is it enabled in the map?
Wrightpayne
I'd take the plugs out and see if one is a different colour.Did you drive it before changing the plugs after waking it up?(just wondering if the fault developed over winter or something you've touched recently)Ian
tangomikeromeo
@wrightpayne. Yes driven twice and all fine. 40 miles ish that morning. Plugs all looked the same on the way out (ie the old ones) and after running with hiccup no apparent difference to the new ones.@TomB. Not obviously but was losing patience so tidied up and walked away. Will check later unless Oily pops up and can tell me what he does as part of the upgrade. SM25T
When mine needs some throttle to get it started, it is a sign that the battery is on the way out.
56
I'm not sure those are the right plugs. Which ones came out? I think VVC will be wasted spark so you need BCPR7ES or NLP100290 or I'm currently using Denso K16PR-U11 which also seem fine.
aerobod - near CYYC
BCP7ES is a non-resistor version of BCPR7ES, this is what NGK says about the differences: ".....Use of non-resistor plugs in vehicles that call for a resistor type can result in rough idling, high-rpm misfire, and abnormal combustion." https://www.ngk.com/what-is-a-resistor-spark-plug
revilla
When you say a hiccup, is it a sort of little occasional sneezing or ticking sound into the throttle bodies? If so it can be a sign of a leaking inlet manifold gasket leading to very lean running at idle.

oilyhands
Sneezing is usually lean fuelling, timing hopelessly retarded or incomplete combustion due to unsuitable or failing plugs/leads/coil. If you dont have resistive plugs I would start there..Oily
tangomikeromeo
New plugs it is then. Thanks all. Will report back.
Neil220
It's possible one of your new plugs is faulty. Why not try your old plugs and see if you still have the same problem?
tangomikeromeo
A new set of BCPR7ES plugs installed and back to running sweetly. Thanks all.
