K7 VCT
Hi my 2014 Sigma engined S3 radiator has sprung a tiny leak. It had a new all alloy radiator when I bought the car in 2017. Which is the BEST item to fit, Radtec, Coolex, caterham or what. ? The cars going to Premier Power soon so I need to have it for then. Thanks all. ScottR400D
My experience with the Caterham rads is you're better off just repairing the leaks. There a high proportion that do leak. That's assuming you want to retain an original CC rad.
K7 VCT
So, best way to repair it?
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 10, 2022 Member Share Posted April 10, 2022 I'd start by discussing it with whoever made it.JonathanPS: If it looks as if the leak might have been caused by stress from the mounting that needs to be sorted as well. K7 VCT
The leak is under the top section to the fins just under it.

Mrp
When I had my sigma Radtec did a really good replacement, you talk to them on the phone and they build you the correct one
SteWi
I had mine repaired two years ago at Berkshire Radiators in Caversham and still leak free. I think I paid around £70 for it.Steve
David_Stamp
I have just bought and fitted a Radtec Sigma radiator and fan. Excellent quality and good support from Radtec. 2012 Roadsport 150 SV.
ScottR400D
The first three I received from CC leaked on welds. I think that's quite common. The first went back to CC. I took the second and third to a rad builder in Brackley who pressure tested, located the pin holes and welded them properly. The second has been on the car since 2015, the third waits patiently as a back up.
timb2117
I bought a Radtec from Demon Tweeks, excellent in all aspects. They can be repaired professionally with some epoxy stuff, need a big fat clean then glue her up.......?Yeah I know I just buy new - do it once do it right. I also concur with Jonathan, need to know how shes mounted and what are the stresses on her, many mount with exhaust type bobbins etc to reduce stresses. K7 VCT
Its mounted correctly I think as it's not at a hose connection. Will try a post a photo

Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 11, 2022 Member Share Posted April 11, 2022 "Its mounted correctly I think as it's not at a hose connection."I haven't suffered, but IIUC any twisting action as the mounting fasteners are tightened could cause a leak elsewhere in the radiator.Jonathan
timb2117
I did note when updating mine that the '05 hoses were uber solid, not just heat tempered but really really well made (they did easily last 16 years without an issue!)I wondered at the time if maybe they were a bit too firm and not damping engine vibration/ movement enough....Perhaps I just need to get out more and find another hobby :)
