Remove Nose

Not mine, the cars. To remove the nose and take to a paint mixer to match the paint and provide aerosols. What holds them on.

Four Dzus fasteners, Two at the top, two at the bottom.  You can open them with a coin, or large flat blade screwdriver (best is a Dzus driver if you want to push the boat out)

4 Dzus fasteners, 2 underneath the nosecone, one each side and two more again one each side where the bonnet meets the nose, the dzus are clearly visible and should be self evident.

Of more importance is being able to occasionally remove the nosecone to check on hoses and radiator.

Am i right in thinking there is a version of the Dzus fastener that can be undone by hand without a screwdriver or similar?

There are 1/4 turn fasteners with a fold flat D ring for operating but they will not fit flush so will be a problem getting them under the bonnet

Edit: they are the sort of fastener that are on ITG and similar air filters

Those are Dzus Panex, and I don't know about compatibility.

LADS top tip. Simply solder or glue a half washer into the lower ones to make them into a wing nut.

Someone put a penny washer on their key ring to ease removal.

I keep a suitable washer on the ring with the keys for the Crossflow but getting it aligned is tricky, so the LADS top tip is useful.

I would agree on the Canadian Quarter being the ideal tool for the Dzus slot, it is an exact fit and after about 200 removals of the nose cone, I have no wear of the slots. A US Quarter is just that bit thicker, so doesn't fit the slot properly.

I also find using a coin or washer that is a close fit in the slot makes it easy to fit in the lower Dzus fasterners using touch alone, no need to kneel or the ground and peer underneath.

My solution which is proven over many years is to dispense with the dzus fasteners and fit a spring hook (the type fitted to the front of the bonnet). The spring is fastened to the centre of the front horizontal chassis tube and the hook is pop riveted to the nose cone. Removal and reattachment  by feel only no need to stoop to see
