I'm considering purchasing a CTEK MXS 5.0 battery charger and a NOCO boost plus GB40 1000 amp jump starter.

Are these the preferred models used by the general membership? Thanks. Bill.

I have been using a Noco Boost GB40 to start my Passat TDI all summer without any issue (1). So it should be able to cope very easily with a Seven.

When the Seven battery has died in the past I have always been able to survive by push starting it, a ten year old is strong enough to maintain enough speed on level ground to start as you jump into the car. I never managed to push start it on my own without a slight gradient.

(1) I was supposed to own a van by now allowing me to scrap the Passat and have been trying to avoid buying a new battery for it, a visit to a scrap yard may be coming up though as it no longer starts when stopped hot.

Bill, it could be wired either way so easiest to just put something in and try it.

I use a Cobra Jumpack and found it difficult to get the crocodile clips to connect properly to the terminals on my PC680 battery. I contacted Cobra and they supplied an extra crocodile clip lead that I trimmed and fitted terminals to be hard wired to the battery, now if I need to use the Jumpack I just plug it in rather messing about with clips.

Now have two CTEK MXS 5.0's . Was so impressed with the first which I leave connected to the 420 when not being used, I

bought another which has reconditioned batteries on a Defender and caravan.

I have a CTEK & cannot fault it. As for jump packs purchased this with 10% off. Have used it several times on other cars including  a 2.0L diesel. When my Banner decided to fail totally with 2 hours remaining of the club TD at Castle Combe it got me started to enjoy.

I have an AccuMate.  It's now 13 years old and keeps my 6-year old Banner in top condition.  It's hooked up all the time the 7 is asleep.  Sounds much like the CTEK.

I also have a NOCO GB40, but have yet to use it in anger to start the 7 (or any other car).  Maybe that's down to the AccuMate?

Coincidentally I've been looking to buy a jump starter and fancy the Noco GB40. I have used the GB20 on a C1 race car and it worked fine but I need something more powerful for other cars.
Interested if any others have experience of GB40 or any alternatives.
