mandalman Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 The magnificent Halfords Advanced 200 piece socket and spanner set is currently on offer, down from £325 to £260. It really is an impressive piece of kit for the money. Just don't open the case upside down like I did
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 3, 2020 Area Representative Posted September 3, 2020 A bargain if you use the club voucher - another 10% off.
mandalman Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 Didn't try that Geoff, as it is a sale offer I'm sure it would come under the usual "cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer " clause.
MADMALC Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I have always had the 10% of 'sale' items, have things changed recently?
mandalman Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 I'll confess I didn't ask so if you can it's my loss. Would certainly make it a real bargain if it bought it down to £234. I assumed they wouldn't because it's the norm with most retailers that you can't combine discounts
Area Representative Geoff Brown Posted September 3, 2020 Area Representative Posted September 3, 2020 Hate to give you the bad news but the Ts & Cs for use of the Halfords club voucher do not state anything about not being used in conjunction with any other offer.BUT it does state 10% off ANYTHING in store.
Billy.Whizz Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I've been thinking of getting a new socket set in metric as the one I have is imperial (had it 45years) and probably no good for my new caterham arriving in April.Could someone advise me on what is the best size drive and how many pieces please. Bill.
ScottR400D Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 I would say if you just have one drive size, 3/8 would be best, sockets mm to 22mm but there are always a few things for which a 1/4 and 1/2 would be better.
Billy.Whizz Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Thanks Scott, I was thinking maybe 3/8 as it's in the middle, also as I sometimes work on bicycles i already have the smaller stuff.
SM25T Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Wow that has increased in price over the years. Used to be £199, and sometimes on offer at £100 ? One time, I picked mine up by the handle from the car boot, and swung it out, to carry into garage. Catches were undone, and lid flew open, and every socket, ratchet and extension flew out and started rolling down the slope towards the street drain. Be warned, the catches do come open quite easily, unless they have changed the design.
Alan Reeves Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Well we’ve all had the dropping all over the floor experience and as Ian say the price has virtually doubled in ten year but still a great set
Adam Godfrey Posted September 8, 2020 Posted September 8, 2020 I think the current set is new and different to the one that was £199.Time will tell if this set will be part of the 50% off offer they used to run frequently.
