Johnh
When the suns lower in the sky and behind when driving occasionally I get serious glare off my speedometer and tachometer dials ..anybody experienced this? Or has anyone got a reasonable solution Without messing up the dash to much?... wasn’t going to put this on but it was so bad a few days ago I had to cover my dials (not a good idea).P.s and I had sun glasses in case anyone was wondering. SM25T
I find it works if you turn a corner.
Johnh
Was a serious question.. but Thought it probably would be a butt of a joke for someone
SM25T
See what the sun reflecting off your almost vertical windscreen does to cars in front of you .. it's like a death ray. Momentary glare off dials isn't a big problem. If it troubles you, put your hand over them for a moment until you turn a corner.
Jonathan Kay
Try some anti-glare film?JonathanPS: It hasn't bothered me. Unlike the far-too-bright main beam warning light, must fix that.
John Vine
Happened to me yesterday while blatting along the glorious Dorset byways. I moved my hand on the wheel until I reached the next corner. But I can see it would be more of a problem on a long straight road.JV
SM25T
That's why we try and avoid long straight roads in 7s !

Johnh
Thanks Jonathan I’ve ordered a Matt iPad screen protector to chop up ..£2 off eBay..constructive answers like yours are what’s needed no matter how silly the question seems for some members.. non constructive replies could be off putting for someone new posting to the L7 club for advice. Stridey
You may think I’m mad, but a quick spray of hairspray over the dial may help. Not in my grooming kit essentials, but you may know someone...
Johnh
Thanks for that but I’m totally bald now.. but I know someone that has someone that has some.. I knew the text would bring the clever sods out.. much easier than chopping up a perfectly good iPad screen ..I’ll give it a try*thumbs_up_thumb*

anthonym
PS: It hasn't bothered me. Unlike the far-too-bright main beam warning light, must fix thatI solved that with a fashioned round cut-out of electrical tape stuck over the offending (light blue) main beam light. Johnh
*stridey could be the winner.. tried it on a piece of glass and bingo it looks ok ..sorry Jonathan I did look at your hair products but they are far too expensive from the non reflective film price (which could still be in the running).. do love those simple fixes.what made you think of that stridey? Stridey
Almost right... we used hairspray on transparencies when drum scanning them for reprograhics when I was a high end retoucher....They did sell pukka stuff, but it was, essentially hair spray. This helped reduce an effect (Probably of interest only to JK!) known as ‘Newton Rings’ often mistaken for ‘Moire’ patterning. I know photographers and theatres use stuff to dull reflections.Of course I hope it doesn’t just create a goooey mess, but a light dusting may suffice. SM25T
What happens when the sun is in front and reflects off your polished ali bonnet ??
Johnh
Like I said proper geezer.. scratch the surface and the answers come.. I’ll be careful and mask it all off and a quick blast only just like I did spraying motors for a living.. many moons ago.shiny ain’t it and only metal polished it once in 3 years and 6000 mls of all seasons driving .. secret to that is canuba wax if anyone is interested (yawn) a friend that works on non military aircraft said just keep it clean and use the best wax you can afford that’s what we do to keep those holiday jets nice and shiny at all altitudes ...I settled on canuba type wax.. expensive but worth it. revilla
Been giving this some thought. One possibility would be to drill out rivets that attach the dash and mount it on a couple of hinges at the top. You could then put a big knob at the bottom next to the gear lever and pull it whenever you feel the urge to dip the whole dash in the way we usually dip the rear view mirror when dazzled. Another thing I though of was polarised sunglasses but they're designed to reduce glare from reflections off horizontal surfaces; they may help with the bonnet but for the instruments you may need to wear them sideways. Jonathan Kay
... known as ‘Newton Rings’ often mistaken for ‘Moire’ patterning.Thanks. And they have a fascinating history... part of the Hooke/ Newton conflict and one of the observations that enabled Newton to estimate both the size of atoms/ molecules and the wavelength of light. And that last was an even bigger achievement than it sounds as he was strenuously arguing that it was particle-like and not wave-like!Jonathan
